Javier Blas ,Energy correspondent with Bloomberg tweeted earlier

At the peak, the electricity margin in Great Britain on Wednesday evening was very, very tight. Certainly, tighter than expected. And Friday looks like is going to be another tight day, with very low wind, which will require another large gas burn to balance.

Has anyone managed to change their email address on ESB Networks?

Their FAQ says yes but reality says no. I sent them an email over a week ago with no reply.

Got an email asking me to use more electricity tomorrow at peak time as they have excess of renewable. Are they serious ? 🤣

These are semi common. Its a request to move usage if you can

e.g. I will probably need to run the dishwasher tomorrow, I could bump it to then.

Indeed its quite counter to the whole reason for the smart meters and peak time pricing.

Why would you want to pay more for washing your dishes rather than off peak when it's cheaper

Possibly someone who came up with this whole ESB Peak event plan figured people would do that as the reward you get would cover any difference you would pay based on your current plan.
For peak events experiment to work properly would mean only people with smart meters who have 30 minute resolution and then they would know for sure yes these people did or didn't use more electricity during an event. I doubt the number of people they have signed up are sufficient to show any real difference in usage compared to entire network.

I don't have a time of day plan, don't intend to until I get an EV.

Gas heating, gas water heating mean that I have very little to move to night time; and plenty of WFH means lots of day time.

Dish washer, clothes washing, drying gets done more on WFH days too so I'd need to seriously change habits to push that in to night hours; although I will when I actually do have time-of-day billing.

    Nothing.

I get the survey email. Login. Say, "Yes, I did what was asked of me." and get my Prezee.

Judging by all the Prezees I have received, ESB does not look at my usage stats.

My house runs off a battery so I nurse that not the ESB. Any free cash helps to pay off the investment on the PV.

They dont look for much detail in the surveys, yes i did do something, no i didnt, etc

When i answer positive about avoiding peak usage hours, i think well i have a battery so yeah i did something.

But yesterday for example they suggested to "get a head start on cooking".... At 10am yeah right. Confidently i answered no i did nothing. I think it's best to be honest.

I keep getting paid no matter what i say so might as well give good data.

Presume there will be an excess of wind power generated on Friday!

From memory in very extreme wind, some turbines are shut down or slowed

Yeah this is shaping up to be extreme wind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,579 ✭✭✭✭loyatemu

I'm guessing ESB had other things on their mind in Jan.

Anyone manage to sort out the login error with Prezzee? It's not been clearing the last 2 days

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,299 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

Just got a text from esb saying that there's a flex event tomorrow. I googled this and it pointed me to this thread. What am I to do?

(sorry if this is a super basic query)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 595 ✭✭✭DayInTheBog

Just answer to the survey link they send you on Friday. It's €3 per survey you do, paid the following month

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,258 ✭✭✭con747

Mine said to try use more electricity between 10am-12pm because of excess electricity so turn on a wash & dry or cook something if you want to or ignore it and answer the survey whichever way you want when they send it to you.

Who gets them also seems to vary across the country. I'm in the West and don't get a lot of the event notifications that others seem to get. E.g. I haven't been notified of the turn up event that @discostu1 mentioned for 10am today.
