Just wondering does shortlisting just involve a new panel placement or could you fail stage 2 based on your application and not be called to interview?

I'm delighted to have passed too. Congrats to all who passed and hard luck to those who missed out.

OOM on Open Steam: 25 Interdepartmental Stream: 18 for Meath.

Given that the main recruitment will be for Dublin I won't get too excited just yet!

Hard luck to those who didn’t qualify but as some have said, good experience for the next one.

I placed 55 in the Open Steam for Dublin. Am I likely to be invited to interview in the short term based on that result?

Can anyone tell me what open steam 13 means in grand scheme of things?

You can fail stage 2 shortlisting based on your form. This happened to me in a previous competition and I had a really good OOM on the tests but failed the shortlisting. Fingers crossed we get through the next stage!

Passed in Cork. Top 60 for inter. Not hopeful of going further. Doubt there are many spaces available

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5 Clearly678

ah thank you! Hopefully yes. Delighted to have passed the tests. Anyone know the indicative times for next stages?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 204 ✭✭kwat

My total score was 1,106 but OOM is just under 700 for open stream in Dublin. Big difference vs. yours for a similar enough total score!

after failing these exams three times I found out today I’ve passed! So happy. My oom is 515 for Dublin. Got 60% , 72% in SJ and just scraped numerical. Is the pass a guarantee for interview, if application and proctoring all guaranteed? Sorry to all those who didn’t get through, I know how it feels

89 on OOM. Total score 1255. I applied for Dublin.

Is there one big order of merit or is it per county?

Presumably there will be a much bigger panel formed for Dublin?

I scored a little over 100 more than yourself but that's a huge difference in the OOM. At least it means if the application form is scored highly, its likely you can make a massive leap up the OOM. Equally, means if mine is scored average or poorly, I can drop a huge amount.

I'll wait anxiously for the next stage to be complete!

Thank God. I passed. But ranked in 1900s. Dublin area... Not sure if there is any hope. But still happy to know that I passed.. Was my first time trying.

All the very best to everyone who cleared and hard luck to others. Overall a good experience.

Yes, I passed, but nowhere near the top scores!

    Hi Folks!

A lot of questions about Stage 1 and OOM so here's what I know from doing previous CO, EO, AO, and HEO panels.

Congratulations!! If you passed Stage 1 and got placed in OOM (Order of Merit) that's your current, preliminiary, place in the queue for the county you applied for! THIS IS NOT YOUR FINAL POSITION FOR A ROLE.

If you got through Stage 1 up next is Stage 2. This is where they examine the answers you put on your original application form. Each question heading will be scored, usually out of 50 with a pass mark of 25. If you pass Stage 2, congratulations! This score and your previous stage 1 score will give you a NEW preliminary OOM. This OOM is the one that determines your position in the queue to be invited to Stage 3, usually done in batches (e.g Batch 1 takes first 75 candidates in this new OOM, Batch 2 are then everyone else up to 150 but won't be seen until Batch 1 is done, and so on).

Stage 3 - Interview/Presentation, if you Pass this Stage then you get a further FINAL OOM and this is your FINAL Position in the Queue to be invited to fill a role as they occur. Not everyone who gets this far and gets a FINAL OOM is guaranteed to get a role but this list of people will exist for the life of the panel. As roles for AP open up, they'll go through the list one by one inviting people to take up a job as they appear until everyone on the panel is offered or until the panel expires.

Not to detract from anyone who did well today and scored high, it's a good position but it is possible to do really well in Stage 1 and then be knocked out in Stage 2. There's a long road ahead and I wouldn't go taking anything too seriously until after Stage 3 Interview/Presentation results. That's when you're in spitting distance of a role.

As for me 1300+ Open Stream, 800+ Interdepartmental but hope my Stage 2 answers are strong as I was more practiced for that.

Tl;dr Well done! Long way to go still, don't get too excited until you Pass Stage 3.

you can fail stage 2. Happened me last competition

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25 Caip79

thanks for this info, can you confirm one thing please, you say “Not everyone who gets this far and gets a FINAL OOM is guaranteed to get a role but this list of people will exist for the life of the panel” does this mean that despite you getting on a panel, if there are less positions than the number of people on the panel, you still might not get a position if positions are filled and panel date has ended?

Passed all the tests. Relieved, but I was quietly confident due to the fact that I have done aptitude tests about 40 times across various grades in the civil service :)

Ranked in the mid hundreds. This is better than I did in the 2022 comp, but I don't know if this had fewer applicants than last time.

Fingers crossed I get through to interview. I am getting very frustrated with the process, I would say I applied about 20 times for various AP positions.

Not to be pessimistic about it, just giving a word of warning about the shortlisting. From what I remember, they were fairly brutal with the shortlisting the last time. Lots of people, including me, were ditched out at that stage. And that was after my form was reviewed by my PO in work! Just letting you know, as previously once you got past the tests it was just a waiting game for an interview.

Any indication of another competition ? Given this seems to be in place till Dec 2025 only ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 462 ✭✭delricyo

At least a year until the next competition I would say. They have only just issued results of round 1 for this competition!

They will probably do a few rounds of shortlisting, then interviews, then assigning of roles before another competition is even considered

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52 ✭✭parisee88

there could well be given the high rate of attrition by time people get to stage 3 and get put into roles. For people coming from the private sector the pace of recruitment is quit slow!

Congratulations to all who passed. I failed verbal, my first verbal fail and failed on numerical last time. Did well in numerical thos time..can't win!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37 InvisibleInk

I must admit, my stomach jumped when I got that email!

But delighted as passed, OOM <75 for Dublin open stream. The score was >1250.

Well done all, they were tough tests so hard luck to those just missing out, bank it down to experience for the next one!

On to the next round which I think is application scoring. Fingers crossed

Thank you DivineBovine for the information you provided, really helpful & appreciated.

I was luck enough to pass & get in the top 100 for my location- Cork(unsure if good enough or not depending on how many applied for Cork) however, when they check my verification video, I feel I will fail.

Stupidly I didn't read the full guidelines about clean desk & I had blank paper & calculator on my desk for the verbal & Sit. Jududement tests, also for numerical I did the test at my work desk & books everywhere (closed).

I'll have to wait to see how strict they are as I didn't use any paper or move from the desk during any test...

Passed and happy with my OOM but I am wondering when we will know if we've been shortlisted. For those who did previous comps, we're ye waiting long for that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,887 ✭✭✭madds

Thanks, this helps a lot. Can you provide any more in what’s involved in Stage 3, specifically the presentation and what that might involve? I’m confident my previous experience & related application form answers will (fingers crossed) get me an interview do I’d like to start preparing now.

Oh their feedback came in, very useful

Please see the below table, to provide you with feedback on your performance relative to the other applicants for Assistant Principal 2024. For each test, scores are converted into 3 categories: A, B and C which reflect the top third, middle third and lower third of the candidates meeting the qualifying score (2867 candidates). We have also provided you with the average score achieved by all candidates (3751 candidates) who sat the tests. We hope that you find this information useful.

So 3751 total candidates and 2867 passed the tests. That is a LOT!

By the look of what you've written here, you only applied for the Interdepartmental competition and not for the Open one. Are you a serving Civil Servant? Because if so, then it's fine as you are still in the competition. If you aren't then, it is a problem as you are only entitled to apply for the Open competition.

I was flabbergasted when I got the results but then realised that the OOM is for the county, not nationally.

I am 24 on the Open, 17 on the Interd but this is for Laois. I had thought I did very poorly at the online tests so thrilled to have passed.

I failed the shortlisting stage on the last 2 competitions but this form was very different, and my first time doing capabilities rather than competencies so it will be interesting to see how I do with this shortlisting process. It was also interesting that we could only select one county this time, it used to be two.

    Back to waiting!

I passed - pretty surprised to be honest.

As always, I did massively better in the nummerical than verbal. I always find it a shame they don't use that for the OOM as I would be much higher up.

    Correct.

If at the end there's 500 successful people on the Panel but only 498 roles open up in the lifetime of that panel, then it's possible 2 people will never get an offer.

Possible but not probable. They do a lot of paring down sure but they keep a healthy list of people to fill potential positions over the next 2 years and panels get fully used a lot. I have a hard time giving you an idea at AP level though, as you can imagine the more senior the positions the less there are of them. I have no idea how many AP roles come up but I DO know Dublin has the most so more chances.
