I've noticed this come up a lot lately on talkshows and the news. Sufferers of HIV trying to "address misconceptions" about HIV. It seems that they are adament to let the public know that, once on the proper medication, you have zero chance of transmitting the infection. And even declare that they are "more safe" than someone who isn't on treatment because at least they can't transmit it…

One of the campaigners being a nurse who admits that even within her own profession, she finds the most ignorant of the disease and it's treatments

While I'm no expert on this topic, I know that in the scientific world, nothing is 100% effective.

And what kind of treatment? Dressing a wound or something?

Effective treatment of HIV does prevent sexual transmission. But how is that relevant to the OP's question?

For a random sexual partner? Don't rely on anything they tell you. Use the usual precautions.

Or is it a trusted partner? Then have the discussion.

Why did you answer "yes" if you didn't understand the question? Nurses can get needlestick injuries during surgery which could obviously lead to blood-blood contact.

What if I was on dialysis having the entirety of my blood system running through a machine that was attended to by a nurse with HIV?

I think you are just trying to befuddle and mock what is a very clear question.

I answered yes because I trust the medical procedures.

As you say, regarding needle stick injuries and such, the risk is to the health care professional and not the patient. But there are procedures in place to manage that risk.

I still don't understand the rationale behind the question.

I agree, but the PPE is now compromised which would also leave, for example, a patient undergoing surgery at risk. A major risk if that HCP had HIV.

Nurses don't perform surgery

They're not going to have their hand inside a patient when they get a needlestick

They will immediately know they have a been injured with a needle and remove themself from the environment to deal with the threat to their own health as there is a (minute) possibility that the patient could have a disease which has now been passed to the nurse

Unless you think that when a nurse pricks their finger with a needle she will then put that needle into the patient?

Dont be ridiculous. You are trivialising the role of surgical nurses, and showing your ignorance of surgery at the same time. It's besides the point anyway, I wouldn't have a doctor who I know has HIV perform surgery on me if I had the choice.

I think the nurse bit is probably irrelevant. More generally, a better question to ask is would an individual risk coming into contact with the bodily fluids of someone with managed hiv.

Indeed, would someone expect disclosure from a partner of their managed hiv status before they first became intimate?

Not getting pissy at all, I don't care what the results are.

If you knew well about surgical nurses you would know that they are often within the sterile field in the thick of the surgery as if they were the 3rd/4th hand of the surgeon.

As another poster said above, it's besides the point what a nurse's role is.

If a person with HIV is recieving effective treatment then yes there's less chance of you contracting the virus from them, than someone who is not recieving treatment but may be a silent carrier.

Can you explain why you think it's very strange? You are talking as though this a no-brainer.

What do you (or the publishers of the data that supports the claim) define as effective treatment? How can I as a patient determine if the person treating me is on effective treatment?

Yes why wouldn't you. I'd be more worried about an unhygienic nurese or doctor in all honesty not santizing themselves correctly or a sloppy doctor or nurse.
