    Hi all,

Regular reader but first time poster here : Just looking for your advise/recommendation on a hand held rechargeable hunting spot light. Thinking of ordering a Cluelite Long Range Elite Rechargeable PLR 800 - is it worth the money? Or should I settle for something cheap & cheerful from China and bin it after the season and get a fresh one next season ?

    Thanks.

Have had a cheap and cheerful model you'll find on AliExpress etc for 3 years now absolutely no problems came with red blue and yellow filters massive beam of light usb C charging only issue is you've to go through about 6 modes to knock it off which is a pain

But it absolutely wipes the floor with a few brand name lamps I have for how far it can throw a white light and if your phone runs out of battery it can charge that too

Thanks for that Uinseann_16 - that sure is an eye opener for me. I thought, perhaps naively, that the UK made Cluelite would be of better quality as there's so much crap stuff coming from China and the far east in general. Must do more research on what Ali Express has to offer.

Use the search term “aspheric lens” when you’re looking and you’ll be going in the right direction

Often as not they are made in the same factory with different badges attached afterwards, at worst you are paying a premium for a badge, at best a premium for better QC than the non name brand stuff.

I have the Clu-Briter Professional and I would definitely recommend it. Was a little extra money like the one you are looking at but battery is brilliant and never any issues. I thought the smaller head would be an issue but works great. Have filters for it but mainly just use as is.

Sent a link to the model I have

I think the biggest issue is brand manufacturers haven't changed anything in the last 15? Years still using 12v odd cables

How many times have you been getting ready to go shooting after a couple of months and you go to charge the lamp and you can't find the cable that came with it and the drawer full of odd 12v cables are either too big or too small ...

USB C is capable of transferring crazy amounts of power there is no excuse for all lamps to not be USB C now especially with new EU legislation around using USB C I have been saved by having a charging cable in the jeep for my phone , charge the lamp on the way over to your buddies to go shooting etc

And LED technology has come a long way in the last few years and big manufacturers haven't really taken advantage of it they sell the same product they did 15 years ago for more money ....

I've retired my lightforce for a cheap Chinese red torch and a large spotlight

Thanks for link, greatly appreciated. I just ordered one, at that price they're a steal even if it just lasted one season. The shipping cost alone for the Clulite from UK is almost €13.00 !

Have 2 of them they work flawlessly , just get used to clocking through the modes to turn them off 😂

I’ve used both types and the Cluelite is a good bit of kit if you’re planning on using it a lot. It’s brighter, the battery lasts longer, and it feels more solid. The cheaper ones do work but usually end up fading quick or breaking after a season. If you just need something for light use, the cheap one will get you by, but if you want something reliable, I’d spend the extra on the Cluelite.

have u thought about getting a Thermal spotter instead

You’ll be amazed how much you’re missing using a lamp
