Hi all, just read the recent thread on the Honda Jazz. It's the top of my list to replace and downsize from a faltering avensis estate. Just wondering what thoughts are on which year/version to go with, 1.3? 1.5 hybrid? Would love the new cross version but too pricey for me at way over 20k. Any reasons not to buy a Fit import? Looking to spend about 20k. Any advice much appreciated.

    Regards,

    S.

Only reason not to buy a Honda Fit would be the fact that the gearboxes are difficult to repair and may need parts ordered from Japan. I think that may apply to the Irish automatic ones as well tho. Personally I would still buy one over a petrol manual Irish one.

    Id still buy one aswell.

Its the GP5 that have the gearbox issues ie the Dual Clutch ones - CVT is fine.

Usually the DCT ones fail (or should I say throw faults on the dash) due to a lack of gearbox oil changes or wrong oil used - due every 40k.

Most of the time the issues can be fixed by flushing out and doing a fresh oil change with the right Oil - DW1 is Hondas name for it - Its a synthetic Z1 ATF but some "mechanics" will throw whatever they have lying around in to the boxes. In the worst case they need clutch plates but because the DCT is now in Europe in some Hybrids parts are a lot easier to get than before.

Any Irish Honda Jazz would be a great purchase, whether it's a manual, CVT, or the newer e:HEV model, which is a full hybrid with an automatic gearbox. Even an import from Northern Ireland or the UK is a solid choice, as they are all very reliable and easy to insure. However, I would NOT recommend buying a Japanese import (called the Fit). While the car itself is fine, insuring it can be a major challenge.

I tried to buy a Fit two years ago but couldn’t find an insurer willing to cover it. After calling several brokers, I eventually received a quote, but it was fecking high. I don’t recall the exact amount, but it was around 2.3k

This week I sold my wife’s car as it was mostly parked in our driveway, and I’ve been looking for a bangernomics car to replace it as second car in the household. Jazz is my option A, but I’m still struggling to get a good quote for the Honda Fit (as my wife only drive automatic). Aviva would insure them (my current insurance), only over the phone. They wanted an extra €430 on top of my existing policy, which I renewed in August. My premium is €530, so the total would jump to over €800 a year more or less. I did the same quote with Irish Jazz and the insurance would reduce 80 euro.

The car is grand but bear in mind that insurance companies will charge you even more. The ironic part is they have no issue insuring the Vitz and Aqua, which are stolen far more frequently than the Honda Fit. Clowns
