NGOs blow ass. If you ever wanted to come back, you'd be stuck into the rubbish single scheme.

If you're looking for a fresh outlook, do something else within the PS instead and preserve that pension

So you have 6.5 years left in increments before your LSI maxes out. Unless you aren't happy where you are is the 2k extra worth it over job security. In addition you'll have to go through the whole probation period again with the NGO.

Do not leave the Public sector whatever you do. A mate of mine once left a Public sector job and he reckons the the pension and security and sickies without too much pressure and longer tea breaks etc ll combine to be aworth an extra 29, 000 euro a year in his case. The pension especially - they worked it out was worth a total of 800,000.

Most non-public sector workers are miserable in their old age trying to survive on old age pension.

on topic - don’t leave if security is super important to you. But you should consider how you can get a move to another area of public service to a job you might be happier in.

A defined benefit pension is something money cannot buy nowadays anywhere else. You could be retired an awful long time. Huge difference between being retired and living on old age pension and retiring with tax free lump sum of 18 months wages and then being on pension of 800 a week, as my brother is on. I'm glad I made the right choice and serve the public too. Plenty of long tea breaks, no stress, a few days off now and again. Stay where you are o.p.

No, it's not worth it.

Left the PS, I had previously spent 20 years in Private sector, to work in an NGO, worked like a dog, CEO micro managed everything and everyone, huge staff turnover, averaged 30% per year, fewer holidays, really nice people, but underpaid for what they do.

now back in PS and not leaving.
