Freshford are 6 points up half way thru the second half, that’s all that matters at the moment. I would say they are comfortable as things stand.

Deserved win for Freshford. Darren Brennan played well, his distribution was excellent even under pressure. Eoin Murphy will be under pressure from Darren and Diarmuid Galway. Referee let a lot go but was strict on steps which was refreshing

Fantastic win, congratulations St. Lachtains. The experience of Darren Brennan and Brian Kennedy helped drive them on.

I agree the ref was excellent. Freshford will need to improve for next year to be competitive Intermediate, forwards were limited

Wow. Can't agree with that at all. I hav'nt seen a team play 3 inside in long time. Freshford very well coached. Well deserved champions.

Has a great attitude and commitment. The lack of pace in recovery a real issue though, similar to Conor Delaney. Vereker ,Lyng, Reid seem to have the size and pace, Neary is a flyer but size may go against him. Cahal Hickey looked an excellent prospect for the u20s in the Junior Final. Not St Lachtains greatest performance but they were much the better team. Darren Brennan was class from start to finish. Well done to them.

Brennan left the kK senior panel last year.

Well done to Freshford. Lot of hype about Russell Rovers but they were very average. Brian Kennedy, Cathal Hickey, and Bergin the full back were very good. Comfortably the better team.

Sorry was replying to poster who said Eoin Murphy would be under pressure from Darren Brennan, not Village87's post.

One wonders how some players from previous eras would manage now with pace being so important. Pat and Ger Henderson, Pat O'Neill, Fan Larkin, Jim Treacy, Peter Barry, Nicky Orr, Eamonn Kennedy, Pa Dillon

Yeah it’s an awful pity Darren Brennan left the panel, I’ve watched a lot of his games underage for Kilkenny and I can’t remember him ever making a mistake. He must have gotten frustrated waiting for his chance unfortunately.

Took both teams today a while to get going, the big points in the game was Brian Kennedy's cynical yellow card which was the right thing to do.

Then Donnelly's goal, he's been a great forward all year and took the breaking ball in his stride.

Freshford didn't seem under too much pressure from then on.

Hard to compare different eras but pace is a big big part of it now especially in Croke Park against flyers like Fitzgibbon & Barrett from Cork & O Donnell & Kelly from Clare.

Because players carry the ball a lot more and receive passes off the shoulder pace is so important.

There was a lot of catching and just pucking it as hard as you could back down the field even in the early to mid noughties.

Lachtains deserved winners. Think they'll do well in intermediate. Have momentum similar to tullogher and mooncoin previous years.

Intermidiate game was great entertainment. Pity had to be a loser. Maloney from tynagh gave an exhibition. Murphy and Desmond from watergrasshill excellent too

Well done to Freshford, enjoy the celebrations. They will hold their own in Intermediate. Junior will be very open now that tullogher and Freshford have moved on.They have scoring fowards and that always gives you a great chance. Shane donnelly was always a dangerous corner forward and its a pity he didnt get a look at a few years ago.Brian kennedy is a great reader of the game. i hear alot of clubs are finding it difficult to get managers. This is throughout the country portlaoise, killmacud and crossmaglen⁹ advertised the positions. There's still club teams in kk with no managers.

The league this year is going to be tough and ya don't want to be going into the championship with a bad league and relegation. is it two teams that get relegated? Cork look to be going all out naming strong teams. We all except we have to experiment and find a few players even if that means results don't go our way. If for example young verker and podge moylan go well against offally it would be a big step up going down to ennis but we need to find a few players. We haven't got much from underage the last few years which is a concern. Not much can be taken from the first day out but a couple of things that caught my eye. Mason and tallis getting a run in goals. I don't think we will see scruff for a while. Dirmuid galway could be another option when he is recovered.kk are lucky that there's good goalies in the county. Tallis is a good keeper. Moylan played the full game and not many played the full game. I know these conditions would suit him but he will take confidence from a good performance. He is very raw and is learning. He will know he can't let a lad walk past him. Blanchfield was excellent at 6,huw was introduced at 6,this is something they tried before but ripped it up after the heavy league final defeat but it was intresting he was brought in at 6 and was very vocal. As I said you couldn't take a whole pile from the game but fowards found the going tough and at times we just needed the ball held up. The subs in the second half made a difference. This is the biggest job on management's hands is finding a few fowards and getting the best out of them. The talk was fionan has being training in defence but made his debut in the fowards. If he is in their plans need to find a spot for him. He is probably a better defender

I would love to see a rule put into place in hurling where you cannot pass it back to the goalkeeper. in fairness to teams they have eradicated the sweeper with the ability to play through the lines and score from distance but the pass back to the goalkeeper makes it so frustrating to watch lately. It is practically playing with a sweeper, teams work it around until the keeper has it uncontested and finds someone free. It is taking the physicality out of the game. Any opinions

Ballygunner are absolutely OTT when it comes to passing back to Stephen o keeffe. They take the biscuit altogether

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 313 ✭✭jamesbond2022

Worth a try it definetly was positive in soccer not letting the keeper pick up back passes

The new football rules have taken away the quick tap to the corner back from a goal kick aswell as far as I know

Would love to see the same in hurling rather than corner backs taking a ball from the keeper static fumbling it or running into trouble and ball being turned over from puck outs

Freshford do it an awful lot to Darren brennan. Be foolish not to when he's such a good distributer

Game on the whole is in a good place, the issues that are there are poor policing of steps, throwing of ball and diving, the recent hurler of the year is a regular enough culprit of 2 of the 3 in my opinion.

With the league starting Sunday week with a tough trip down to Ennis it will be interesting to see who plays this weekend against Offaly. It's hard to read too much into challenge games and with lads playing away with colleges it's hard to know who will be available this weekend, personally I think if lads are playing Fitzgibbon mid week there's no need for them to play this weekend.

Clare in Ennis on Sunday week will be a great test for the new lads and lads on the fringe of the team the last few years. Clare seem to be missing a few but we have a terrible record down there recently and we'll get nothing easy. The team I'd like to see against Clare would be:

    Tallis

    Moylan, Lawlor, Vereker/Connellan

    Carey, Blanch, S Murphy

    Molloy, McDonald

    Connellan, Cody, Mossy

    Drennan, Hogan, M Murphy

That's potentially the slowest forward line I've ever seen. I know we're not blessed with forwards but surely that's not the best full forward line available
