The second greatest RoboCop game next to RoboCop Versus The Terminator on the Megadrive, Data Easts 1988 RoboCop.

    RoboCop_arcade_flyer.jpg

Will we leave it to run two weeks till the 8th of January?

On a side note. In dundrum bowl I remember playing Robocop, opposite was this holographic game where you were a cowboy( in my mind it was Steve Martin,) . Was mental kinda quick time game and i recall it being most expensive game in the arcade ...jeez at that time must have been 2x 50ps or more

Thought I was imagining it but Ive found it .

    Time traveller

Pheeww. Thought I'd lost it there.

What a crazy innovative idea.sega really where the kings of ground breaking arcade cab ideas.

I remember the arcade also got GLOC around the same time .

God damn spinning ball shapped hydraulic cabinet . Think it was a sequel to afterburner .

Right , enough of the rose tinted glasses for now. Must get the shopping done 😬

Funny thing about Data East games is they get completely dismissed now because the narrative of videogames is controlled by the American side. They aren't the best games but they are really fondly remembered in Europe as the 8 and 16 bit systems got such great conversations of a lot of their games while the NES got crummy versions or just missed out entirely.

    Always liked Data East games.

But it's Ocean who really shine. Games and conversions they lashed out late 80:s to 90's ....unbelievable

Gave this another 3 goes and got to third boss.

There is a first person target bonus round after round 2. Pumped up my score

    " I'll buy that for a dollar " 😃

Ya would have kicked my ass if ya finished the boss, yeah get ( I think 10000 for finishing the level), and then bonus round ya get a rake off points also .

And there was baby food to replenish the oul health in level 3:) I missed it

Now to Indiana Jones for me,not given it a go yet 😃

Broke the 100,000 on the third level boss.

You actually get all your health back and your energy bar increased if you get a perfect shooter score on the target range. Really helps!

Yeah id so much health going into stage three from the bonus level that I didn't even need to try going for the health power up - which is a good thing as it looks like a absolute bitch to get to.

The chainsaw guys are far and away the most dangerous enemies in the first three levels. I've found the trick is making sure to shoot up at them when they're in the air, so by the time they land they're only one or two shots more til death.

Otherwise it's bye bye a third of your health

Also worth making sure you use up the tri shot before Ed209 so you can shoot at him faster with your standard gun. Just go absolutely nuts with the tri shot when you first get it.

Wehey, beat the third level boss and up to level 4 now.

It's actually fairly handy to get the perfect shooter target score after stage 2. Makes stage 3 a bit of a breeze.

There's something magical about that film this time of the year, one of the first ones I watched as soon as I finished up for the holidays.

Then I tend to make my way through as many films with a John Williams soundtrack as possible.

Had a lovely day the other day watching the Indiana Jones trilogy followed by Jurassic Park and then E.T.,while sipping a few Baileys. Can't be beat!

I hadn't actually watched Jurassic Park in about twenty years. It's a really brilliant film, had actually forgotten how good it was.

Ya know I've never sat down and watched E.T

I did as a child obviously and even had one of those fake leather E.T teddy bears ...remember them ?Loved that lad , he took some hell of a beating.very resilient young fella .

Thought I was imagining that there but found a pic of him

    Screenshot_2024-12-31-13-41-28-204_com.android.chrome-edit.jpg

Anyway I'll stop turning this thread into a train crash, sorry

Ah no not at all, sure we'll let it run till this weekend! Have a few more blasts and see how you get on. Interested in seeing Retr0s take on it too if he manages a bit of time.

Ocean did some awesome license-tie in games back in the C64 days. Some turds too, but some of my favourites were from Ocean (Robocop being one of them, alongside Platoon & the Untouchables to name a few). Not to forget the Ocean loaders too; some fantastic SID soundtracks.

    Ahhh forgot about the untouchables!!

Platoon was a classic., loved Rambo, batman Navy seals also.

They were the kings of pumping brilliant film tune themes from the c64 SID and the best loading screens .
