Untreated roads, driveways and footpaths will be dicey in the morning, particularly where there has been precipitiation this afternoon in the south of the capital.

it is expected to freeze right down to sea level in Dublin tonight.

still snowing heavily and settling in Sandyford, just at base of 3 rock. The roads of the estate were noticeably slippy when I drove back in at 5pm after only an hour out

I honestly can't believe people are still wishing for snow. If you were on Day 4 of this and living in rural Ireland, not being able to get out of the house you'd be getting fairly sick of it all.

I am in Kerry and its absolutely baltic, all the snow has frozen into something resembling concrete and spiky rocks! There was no thaw at all today, no sunshine until about 3.30 for half an hour. The birds are everywhere looking for food. Even with hiking poles and hiking boots and having salted the area in front of my house I nearly broke my neck.

I never wanted snow in the first place as snow like this is pure hardship for rural people, for farmers, for animals. Its easy for city dwellers to go to their local park, their local shop, their local coffee shop and revel in it all. When you can't get out of your house, never mind even into your car its a pain at Day 4 and counting. Bring on the thaw, the sooner the better, and back to normal life!

Ireland was blanketed in low cloud and fog at lunchtime today, but a clearance over Scotland and northern England revealed extensive snow cover.

There was a notable difference between where I took that pic and the car park, probably 50ft difference in elevation at most.

That Kilmallock temp now plumetted to -5.8. I'm not too far away and can confirm it's absolutely Baltic.

Easier to set up an amateur weather station at home and gawk at that all day than face the reality of the disruption the actual event causes.

    Chill literally to my bones

People are wishing for snow because they love it and because much of Leinster, particularly the northern half of Leinster (Louth, Meath and North Dublin in particular) hasn't seen a proper fall of snow in over 6 years other than a few flakes here and there. We seem to miss out every single winter due to geography, northerlies don't really work for this part of Ireland. Easterlies have generally been either too early or too late in the season and resulted in cold rain or else they've just been dry easterlies. Frontal snow events rarely work either because the air is usually not cold enough and during frontal events the winds are regularly coming in off a relatively warm Irish sea which turns everything to rain or sleet at best for a large portion of eastern coastal counties.

I was extremely lucky to get the snow that I did on Sunday. About 1.5cm settled on the ground, would have been more than that just that it took a full hour for the snow to start sticking as it rained for 24 hours beforehand. I know from looking at the Satellite imagery that Dunshaughlin and Hill of Tara where the only 2 white patches in Meath with everywhere else green, so I got very lucky.

Parts south dublin are lethal after that snow sleet mix. Prue ice on roads and paths. Be careful.

Well said. I've a colleague 3km outside Tralee who has been blocked in all week. 2 foot of snow in his driveway and the hill to the main road is like a sheet of ice.

I'll be glad when it's all over.

Minor road in Kilkenny today. No thaw here and now pretty much frozen. Fog at lower levels all day.

but but but - in my back yard which is 5 metres by 10, there is no snow or ice, so that must mean everyone within a 200 mile radius of me must be the exact same?

Don’t know what all the fuss is about 😛

The sooner the snow and ice fecks off the better, it's been a complete nightmare. I'm living rural and roads are lethal, only for local farmers clearing them then the roads would have been inpassable. Now the snow is like cement and difficult to clear. I called to the elderly neighbours to see if they needed anything from the nearest town. There's houses near me with the gutters on the ground, farmers sheds collapsed, mounts of frozen snow everywhere etc. I've all the bird feeders full, I've never seen so many birds using them. I'll happily take constant rain over snow any day of the week

Beautiful fresh walk on Bull Island. Got out just before the Irish Sea streamers arrived onshore.
