Wondering when Putin is going to say he wants Alaska back. Same logic.

It literally says in the text he defended his referring to Trump in that manner.

If he repeated it, you'd say it was a bad move because of Trumos influence, if he apologized, you'd say he was a bootlicker, he defended having made the comment without repeating it, you're still not happy.

What happened to all the talk of Trump not getting involved in any wars? He is now openly threatening sovereign democracys and you find nothing odd about that?

Something no-one, anywhere has ever brought up. But Trump says it so it needs to be made look sane.

Greenland. Then onto liberate the brits 🫡🫡

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,211 ✭✭✭Economics101

Forget about Greenland, the Gulf of America. We are about to have a U.S. President who is deranged, idiotic, narcissistic, a total liar and a fool/clown. But more frightening is that there are many in his entourage who have copped on as to how easily he can be played and influenced. Not only are the guardrails weaker than before, but a gang of opportinists will now have huge influence.

Trump isn't elected yet and already.

He has said he won't be able to bring down grocery prices after campaigning on being able to do so.

He has implied he would consider military action on Panama, Mexico, Greenland for various nonsensical reasons and has threatened an increase in violence in the Middle East. All this despite claiming he was addicted to peace and a great negotiator.

Do his advocates on here feel like he lied to them just a little?

So I heard Greenland is going to pay for a wall?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,048 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

Trump refused to rule out a military invasion to get what he wants from Denmark and Panama. He claims those lands either belong to them or they need them for extra security.

The parallels with history continue to grow.

While I agree with the sentiment, Trump is not "joking" about taking over Canada. The man has never made a joke in his life because he has no sense of humour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,921 ✭✭✭✭Frank Bullitt

I am with you on that, he is deadly serious about all of what he is saying. He is known to not have an ounce of humour, yet we have a few posters who chime in and say he is joking, they also claim to be “centrist”.

Just look at the reactions from the plastic goblins on fox.

I’m guessing tariffs and threats are what Trump thinks will make him different or more aggressive. All is shows is that he is as bad a politician as he was a businessman.

Its impossible to lie to them. Like you can see on the previous page where Trumps "defeat" of Trudeau is "explained" theres always a retcon that "corrects" things to reflect Trumps brilliance.

I'm sure Trump would lower food prices but its the woke corrupt liberal communist facist corporations like Walmart and Denmark that are stopping him. Trump would of course lower the prices, I mean he said he would. If Ivanka was Queen of Greenland and Elon Lord of Canada every TruthSocial subscriber would get a free Danish and Maple Syrup delivered in a self-driving Tesla every morning. But its the woke thats stopping him MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.

No. They'll never admit to being lied to because they've invested too much of their time buying into the very stable genius stick. It's been about a decade at this point and nothing has changed except for Trump's clearly deteriorating capacity to make sentences.

MAGA is about corporate profits, racism and cruelty. Nothing else. People over there knew what they were voting for and if they were stupid enough to think that everyone but them would suffer, that's on them.

Re Trumps position on the Panama Canal, Canada, Gulf of Mexico, Greenland, UK politics, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc. Each area comprises of two parts,. Part one has to do with making. A statement on what you are thinking, might/should do, your opinion, etc, etc, etc. The second part has to do with doing something about it, eg changing a name, invade with army, impose major tariffs, etc, etc, etc.

In Trumps situation , I think that he is quiet happy the table no OnE only so expect a few other things that he would ‘like to do’ over the next 4years

Think that Mexican Wall and even who will pay for it

    Think cleaning the SWAMP

All of the above creates the kind of controversy that Trump thrives in

All this talk of Canada, Panama and Greenland is pure diversionary tactics. The USA has no chance to take over any of them. It's all soundbites and click bait for the MAGA base to divert their attention away from any meaningful policies or promises the Fanta Fraud made to them pre election.

So Panama, Greenland, Gulf of America and we haven't even reached January 20th yet. Guardrails are off this time, genuinely concerned about what's going to happen over the next four years.

Even putting aside all that there's ASI quite likely during his presidency which could be a massive challenge and he's in bed with Elon who primarily cares about his billions, i have anxiety about it all.

In as few sentences, the entire point of what Donnie is doing, and frankly has done since entering "politics".

In what amounts to possibly the only slither of "planning" in Donnie's mind, Greenland etc… has plenty in common with The Wall™ specifically the fact that it's something that's never likely to be resolved in the next 4 years. He can cart out one of these imperialist nuggets to keep his MAGA chuds distracted while the rest of the country complain about him failing to run the US as is actually stands today.

The 2 results of this are that the 4 nations currently being targeted by Trump will have a slightly harder headache when dealing with the US (we're all going to have one regardless), and that the MAGA Cultists might start doing unfortunate things in service of Donnie's childish whims. I can easily imagine a gaggle of MAGA dimwits taking a flight to Nuuk, finding an empty spot in the wilderness (Greenland has plenty of that) and establishing their own little "Fort Trump" to back up a US claim. They would however be MAGA dimwits, of the JFK jr. in Dallas variety, so they'd likely be in the runnings for a Darwin Award by not preparing propery for sub-Arctic conditions (which would come as a shock to people who are likely from the Deep South).

Not surprisingly, threaten to rain hell on Gaza.

    https://edition.cnn.com/2025/01/07/politics/trump-warning-gaza-hostages-negotiations-inauguration/index.html

"It will not be good for Hamas and it will not be good, frankly, for anyone. All hell will break out. I don’t have to say anymore, but that’s what it is,” Trump said in remarks at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Tuesday"

Can’t wait to see the posters who went all over Biden for his stance on Israel on this.

It's only bad when Biden falls short of an ideal standard that's just been erected. Trump openly calls for more genocide and they're silent.

I think we have entered an era where the US is getting tired of having to play the world's policeman while getting screwed by everyone else. Trump is just a symptom. He says the quiet parts out loud.

The kid gloves approach of the US to foreign policy would appear to be coming off and a more direct and assertive policy is starting when it comes to US national interest.

US getting screwed? The US controls and dominates the world. It decides what is and isn't an international crime. Kid gloves? Like invading Iraq? Launching coups in foreign countries. Outlawing Cuba for having a different political viewpoint them theirs?

This idea that the US is the world's policeman seems to be based on the notion that the US does it on behalf of good. They only get involved when it suits them and it advances their interests to do so.

As in "your national sovereignty" does not matter a hoot to me, I will use my military to invade your country and territory if I so please. That is what he means with his version of bargaining with Norway, Canada, Mexico and Panama. We have an ongoing situation here in Europe where another president, well known and admired by Trump, is exercising his nations military to such an end in a neighbouring state.

Arguing that Trump does not mean what he actually said, that he is using the words as a bargaining tool, does not get away from the fact that others in the US listening to him will put a different interpretation on them and take them to be a call to arms. He's had great success with that since he became president in the first place in the US, through acolytes "misinterpretation" of his words. He might interpret the SCOTUS ruling on "official presidential duty actions" loudly to a wrong end.

Its worthwhile recalling that this particular US president has properties here, one of which involved a row with the local civil authority on his building a wall.
