Great to see someone renovating a house in town centre. So many buildings like this in towns across Ireland, would make a massive difference to rural towns if they were renovated.

Though pity to see her say stuff was going on Skip, surely some could have been salvaged

Dermot is 100% right on the ceilings, character, character, character.

what a stupid idea. those joist arent put in to be decorative. probably not in milimeter perfect. and all the rough bridging . stupid idea. the beams in that fancy house were put in with the idea that they would be left exposed

You are nearly expecting Tubs to pop in.

When I posted 219 was her original budget.

She got more grant and coughed up more cash

RTI is tired and outdate. With the current pricing crisis around building works their be a show in budget refurbs. The money being spent is pie in the sky stuff for most people.

The joists are not comparable at all to those in the fancy house, much better to plaster over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,894 ✭✭✭TinyMuffin

staggered joists don’t look well in the long run.

Dermot wanted her to sleep beside a patio door to the outside. What the hell did he expect her to say?

Totally and all I see when I see them is cobwebs to be cleaned! I wouldn't have them either.

Bedroom beside street not ideal but sure where else can it go and it's only guest bedroom, her own is nice and quiet at back.

now all the light switches are over there in the alcove and not where the bed is going.

Funny the bed ends up where the sockets were already in place, that was a completely made up piece of BS drama.

But there were plug sockets already at bedside locker level on the wall beside the window (as opposed to the door).

    Fabulous house.

    Real quality finish.

I presume the courtyard exits/ventilation are compliant with any fire safety requirements?

Just catching up, surprised to see an old college friend (one of her brothers). An absolute lunatic, and gent.

Really liked the final product. Lovely home.

Nice finish to it. They really showed what can be done with all those derelict old shops etc in our towns and villages.

A good result, though what happened to the bright green kitchen units?

We didn’t see the bathrooms either. I liked the house I have to say - wouldn’t have gone with the exposed joists either!

Did she manage to get a garden behind the house?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 408 ✭✭brookers

They all looked quite young. So sad to see no parents sharing her joy. Lovely home. Janey how can anybody afford to build or refurb. You be working until 75 to pay it all off. Perhaps the family had a good big of money, usually butchers have farms too and other property.

In order to be considered derelict, the building itself must be structurally unsound or in a ruinous state.

That house was not a derelict house, as it didnt satisfy the criteria, unless it was on the local council Derelict Sites Register.

I know if you tried to tell Revenue that the property was a derelict property and not liable for property tax they would laugh at you.

Maybe these Derelict grants are alot looser on eligibility.

Quantity Surveyor Claire Irwin says that for derelict houses requiring structural work, more money is available.

"If the house requires any structural work to, for example, the roof, the walls, or the floor, then it's defined as being derelict. In that instance, there's a €20,000 top up available."

Hmm that seems a bit ridiculous.

I think its a great program they look for advice from dermot they have a good plan and design and it always go,s over budget and theres some problem that means the budget go,s up by at least 50k. every episode is avaidable on rte player going back to season one. they make up some drama to attract viewers

i think its better than grand designs where people build enormous houses that look weird that are 2000 sq ft for 2 people with 5 bathrroms

its nice to see someone buying an old house and making it a modern building that looks good.

maybe theres not many people left in ireland that want to appear on television while they try and upgrade an old house .

i think the rte program the great house revival is more interesting as it shows large old house,s being renovated from top to bottom

Don't think so, seemed to be finished as a driveway, back wall wasn't replaced but maybe will be gated or something in future, wouldn't sleep in a bedroom with a door that was open to a back lane myself!

Didn't she tell him not to bouncing on the floor or he'd end up down on the slicer in room below, that sounds a bit of a structural issue and I'm sure it wasn't the only one!
