Q-School 2025 6th-12th Jan

One week to go to to Q-school 2025. As usual there is a UK and a Euro school. Both have 2 phases, no tour cards given out till the second phase of each. During the second phase the winner each day in the UK/Euro event will get a card while other players get OoM points depending on their finishing positions in the OoM at the end of q-school.

Certain players (eg those who have just lost their card, challenge tour, development tour and women's series OoM high finishers) go straight into the second phase.

In order to play the challenge tour in 2025 players have to have been at q-school so there will be some players who only turn up and play one day of q-school to satisfy this criteria

Closing date for q-school entries is tomorrow afternoon so will have a better idea of notable entrants (and absentees) then.

Paul Krohne has apparently said on German TV he is handing back his card so that would leave 29 cards to be given out. 8 for automatic winners from the 4 days of phase 2 of the euro and UK schools and 21 on the OoM rankings from phase 2. Saw something that the split might be 12 for euro and 9 for UK

Should make it to phase 2 for sure but getting a card likely to a huge ask. Phase 2 gonna be four tournaments over 4 days with the winner each day getting a card. Numbers to be confirmed but likely then a further 9 maybe 10 cards for the OoM places. Will need decent runs in at least 2 probably 3 of the phase 2 tournaments.

Also the list of names for phase 1 doesnt include those players who already are in phase 2 - i.e. players who lost a card this year and high finishers on the challenge tour, development tour and womens series

Best of luck to all the Irish over there next week (especially our Mayo boys). Any bookies taking bets on Q school? Have searched around and nothing…

For $hitz and giggles. Predict the lowest match average in Euro and UK Schools this week. There are always some stinkers.

    I'll go with UK - 43, Euro - 38

I'd say there will be a <35 avg in euro one.

First round of games are mediocre so far

Shane McGuirk on same board as Fallon Sherrock

Andy Hamilton also out L256 stage

Scott Waites exits at L256 stage also

McGuirk through. Dean Gallagher on a decent run

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,320 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Dean loses in L64 stage after being 4-2 up against Bradley Brooks

Shane McGuirk and Dean Finn Forde still there at last 32 stage, so guarenteed 3 OoM points, that may very well be enough to get through to phase 2, four points definitely would be enough

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,320 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

5-0 win for Shane, through to L16, win that and he progresses to phase 2, but in all likelihood the 4 points already amassed today is going to be enough to get through on the OoM placings even if he loses his last match today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,320 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Dean Finn Forde had darts to win at 4-3 up but ultimately lost 5-4. Still, a good day one showing, might be enough to get through to phase 2, but one more point over the next 2 days should do it.

Shane McGuirk through to phase 2, beats Mark McGeaney in final round today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,070 ✭✭✭boomdocker

Bradley Brooks probably the most impressive today, scoring wise

He seems to be absolutely flying. Interesting to see if he can replicate that in Stage 2.

Great to see McGuirk through to stage 2 with no issues.

Almost went out to Dean Gallagher though, was 4-2 down

Stolen from Reddit. Made me chuckle.

    Q-School Legend: Jamie Foster

At last year’s Q-School, a player named Jamie Foster turned up and played 3 games across 3 days – averaging 36.10, 36.44, and 41.76 (all being 5-0 losses.)

He has returned this year and averaged 39.48 in another 5-0 loss.

Jeez I had forgotten about Max Hopp

Dramatic fall from the rankings he was a euro tour winner maybe 3/4 years ago?
