Buying a car from the UK

I'm looking to move to the UK this year ideally in the next 6 months. I'm planning on selling my car soon and I want to buy my next car in the UK as they're much cheaper over there. Few noob questions:

If I buy a car from the UK, how long can I drive with UK plates in Ireland? I'll be coming back and forth via ferry throughout the year during the moving period so just wondering if there's anything I need to be aware of?

And how does insurance work? I assume I'll have to get insured with a UK insurance company? What happens to my no-claims bonus in this case?

If your living/working in the UK you can visit Ireland as a tourist on your UK plates no problem. UK insurers probably won’t consider your no claims bonus
