I cannot see it, ML. This is the 850hPas for Charleville in the north of the county at 6am on Sunday. The mean is +1.6c. Perhaps some brief snow as the system pulls awaty and draws in colder air behind it.

Northern Munster counties and West Leinster look like going red to me. That's Limerick across through Tipperary, Laois kilkenny etc. Orange just South and North of that. Many saying Cork coast will lose out and its a fair point. BUT, keep in mind wind is Northeast not onshore!! That could swing it in our favour

I was saying earlier that the deeper lows track further north as we approach an event and the slacker systems tend to drift south as we approach the event. The more this system blows up and heads north, the quicker we will return to milder weather. It's a good thing we cannot control anything.

Yeah i think as it clears a possibility but that doesn't usually work out too well down here. I was never too optimistic anyway but north West Cork and places west of Kanturk usually get snow alright. Cork isn't like Dublin so saying the city or the county is helpful.

Secondary school buses go on to do a primary run after they drop students at secondary schools.

They are working on earlier runs. They would be much more positive if they had seen recent runs. Expect large upgrades in morning

I suppose the ideal scenario from an imby perspective would be that it goes further north but stalls, then gives a 36 hours snow dump, however as you say the most likely scenario is that the system mixes out the cold and we all go mild. I should have kept my mouth shut this morning. Sorry every one further north. Still hopefully the northerly might deliver a few surprises during the week to those in the north and north west

Well unless morning runs go pear shaped! It's never straightforward in Ireland.

I think that low had too much of a good time over Christmas and has gone a bit flabby!!

i saw a small amount of egg dripping down the side of joannas face earlier, just at the side of her lip.

Well we could still get some snow, but at the same time it wouldn't surprise if this ends up even further south on the runs tomorrow morning. Let's see.

BBC weather just now, she did say "we could see significant possibly disruptive snow"

I hope so even 2cm or 3cm on the ground will do me

Some models definitely gone more South . Intrigued to see what the ECM does next. Included the 12Z Multi Model which hasn't wavered much over the last couple of days.

Js mentioning red warnings but we could also be seeing Orange warnings for rainfall especially the South and along SW and W coasts or a combined Orange snow / rainfall for some areas and then a massive freeze on top of most of it!

thankfully the pub run this evening is not the last potential outcome and I get it but people to easy to say that’s it the dream is over 😅 this time tomorrow night we will know a lot more but I think it will come down to at least Saturday to see how it’s going, live now-casting almost. More chopping and changing. The uppers don’t look fantastic either but………..

We’ll be out in force if we get a good northerly shower

Worth bearing in mind that if it's wet snow the radars will be of no use like in November.

With exceptionally clear skies and a waxy crescent moon, it's a great opportunity to look up at the phenomenal star show especially if you are away from artificial lights.

I'm deep rural Kildare - 10+ km from any town - the stars are phenomenal tonight.

I can only imagine what it's like in the dark reserve of Ballinskelligs

Harmonies hinting at a double whammy down South with one period of snow clearing on Sat night and then a second pulse early Sunday. Ad others have said Cork coast is borderline but wow for Northern Munster it looks really disruptive!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,572 ✭✭✭arctictree

Don't see why all the gloom here. The 18z looks much better for the Dublin area. Nearly 36 hours of snowfall. Was a slushfest on the 12z.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,947 ✭✭✭JanuarySnowstor

Nice charts Meteorite. Call it for us, right now can you see a Red warning??

To me disruption looks huge for North Munster and well into Leinster

Hopefully once this low clears through we might get some snow showers up in the North West next week fingers crossed 🤞

save the trouble and jazz it up

I hate to burst your bubble Arctictree but models aren’t amazing at picking up onshore wind components, and when winds go E and NE for Dublin well, unfortunately it’ll be a lot of mixing so more likely rain than snow :(
