And a big shift south on the GFS as well

The 18Z GFS continues the overall trend of the low not extending as far north as this morning's runs. This means that the snow risk extends from a line north of Clare to Dublin and higher ground further south, with a risk of backedge snow lower down further south as the system pulls away on Sunday afternoon. Latest run is top

Yup flipping back and forth with the GFS

From a Dublin perspective, is there likely to be guaranteed lying snow everywhere above say 200 metres (ie the Dublin mountains) or is that overly optimistic?

The perfect angle of attack!! Back to where we were last night after 3 brutal runs from gfs.

Out to 72 hours, great for the south and a downgrade elsewhere up to 72 hours anway. From that

Peak IMBYism on here this evening, there are people who want it to go north ya know. A run that goes north isn’t a bad one for all..

Still those uppers immediately ahead of the front are not remarkable.

So GFS went from the worst option at 12z, to being even further south in terms of cold air than the ECM.

As live data and readings keep coming in from this low, subtle changes to come one would imagine.

You really wouldn't want it to go much further south than the GFS there. It's almost perfect, boundary of cold/warmer skirting the south coast is ideal. However, those in Ulster will suffer with these adjustments.

Arpege says you might be bad at rugby Munster but here's a helping hand!!

Aw pity. Tonight the chances of significant snow have dropped have diminished. According to GFS. Cold, we will defo have next week, but for me, to qualify as a memorable snap, we need frozen snow lying on the ground for a few days. I fear icy sleet or rain clearing to ice rink conditions.

Don't really like the current models less snow for the north Midlands but hopefully an upgrade will happen

To be fair you're more than welcome to share your happiness if it shifts north.

Makes no difference to me either way as here on the east coast it's going to be pissing rain wherever the front decides to go.

This is what worries me - Met Eireann despite their own forecasts, are forecasting none of it for Cork.

This coastal temperature gradient is far larger than reported anywhere else in this thread and doesn't really go away… and the times it does it warms up again quickly so anything will melt.

You seem to have forgotten that the capital of Ireland and Gods country are in Munster. And of course the Healy Raes 🫣

It is highly likely than preciptiation in Cork will be cold rain or sleet, irrespective of what those snow depth charts show. High ground in Cork may some leading edge and back edge snow. That is based on the data as it is now.

Looking at my location Cavan/Meath boarder looking promising enough at the minute for snow but as always I'd be equally happy with cold, dry and bright. The dogs miss the forrest walking on roads ain't the same for them.

When it goes into France we can share our emotions 🙂

The far south will still see a sleety/snow to rain, back to snow (if the front is still active as cold air digs back in). The Euro views can obscure where the boundary of cold/less cold is, better to zoom in. See below, that's rain for Cork and co. Also, scroll through some of the charts being posted, the Arpege for e.g. just now by JS. There's a quite clear coastal rain strip below the hatched snow markings for Cork.

Cork a big county. Certainly the city and coastal regions would be very marginal. Further inland and north of course a better chance of lying snow.

Looks like with that big shift south us in Donegal are definitely going to miss out now but at least it's going colder!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,178 ✭✭✭TheMilkyPirate

UKMO HD gives what I think to be the most realistic version of events. Snow to rain to snow and probably sleet and crap mixed in as well. Some places will do very well but a lot will be dissapointed. I think Sunday afternoon/evening is going to be the best time period for everyone.

The way this is trending south those of us further north could end up missing out altogether. A robust low is more likely to end up further north but with it comes the the risk of a slush fest. It could be a good call from those posters saying it would trend further south in the end . There will be a better dig in of the cold airmass that way which could be beneficial in the event of another potential frontal snow event. Although if I miss out on this one I won't have much energy for another chase
