not much quality apparent in this Southampton team from what I saw. Leeds a no show.

I watched 25 minutes of the second half. It was awful, putting me to sleep, so I turned it off.

Leeds doing what Leeds do - pathetic.

    3-3 now.

    Rooney this, Rooney that….blah blah.

Did his teams non-participation really overshadow Danny Rohls utter demolition job?

Musaba could've had a hat trick of tap ins and didnt score a single one.

The Championship is so unpredictable but I think Albion and Leeds will come up Plymouth to go down

3 minutes into the second half andSunderland are blowing Wednesday away, 4-0, this could get embarrassing.

Good 24 hours for Birmingham. Last minute winner at home today and smashing the League 1 transfer record last night. Definitely don't think Stansfield is worth the reported 10-15 million at this stage, but is was quite clear all summer that the owners wanted a statement signing. Certainly got the attention we wanted. Already the favourites for the league but will definitely feel the pressure to have a 100 point season.

Coventry in talks with Frank Lampard! I know he got Derby County to the play-offs final, 2018–2019, but anything he has done since then wouldn't strike me with confidence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,243 ✭✭✭pavb2

Agreed especially after the success of Robbins at Coventry it’s make or break for him. I think he needs to make the play offs as a minimum.

On another note although he is struggling I do have a bit of respect for Wayne Rooney taking on a club like Plymouth but similar to Frank the reality may soon set in that good as they were at playing they’re not cut out for management.

Rooney gets 'mutually consented' by Plymouth

Actually thought that at the weekend his time must be up

This it for him as a manager now before he turns 40?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,471 ✭✭✭Kiwi_knock

Seems like the same issues that plagued Rooney at Birmingham have happened again: tactical naivety, slamming players, criticising the fans, poor team culture, and Rooney being overly focused on other things beyond football.

Hard to see a way back in English football for him. He doesn't have the experience or skills for either a promotion push or a relegation fight. May be relying on an owner wanting a big name / autograph hunting. He doesn't appear to want to manage abroad again but I imagine a middle east team would be interested in having the Rooney brand associated with it.

Rooney will be fine anyway, will be back in the punditry and media circuit straight away. Former team mates and the media will rally around him and the narrative will be that he performed exactly as expected at Plymouth and that the owner and fan expectations were unrealistic.

Rooney did perform exactly as I expected, was a matter of when he'd leave during the season rather than would. Although Plymouth's management board deserves some scrutiny also, since Schumacher left the last two manager choices have been disastrous. I'm not sure who is favourite for the next permanent manager but they've a tough task ahead of them.

Obafemi in there on a season-long loan too. Had they beaten Oxford, they would have been level with them, and they were in as bad a run. Have they pulled the trigger in time remains to be seen, but Rooney looks finished as a manager.

This is not an inspiring CV!

I was chatting with a friend who expressed the opinion that Rooney jumped the managerial gun too quickly and he would have benefited from being an assistant manager somewhere so he can learn the ropes. But I agree that it would be crazy for another club to trust him with this position.

Bizarre appointment in the first place. One of the main reasons Plymouth stayed up last season was due to Rooney's abysmal run with Birmingham so how they thought he'd bring any success is beyond me.

A friend of mine is a Plymouth fan and he said it was clear from day 1 that he wasn't going to last til the new year. Their goal difference and particularly their goals conceded (10 more than the next worst) are frightening.

He was as good a player as he would ever be at 17-18 so I guess he assumed same would apply in management. Used to be a common thing for star players to transition directly and successful into management but I guess becoming less so…

I'm not sure who is favourite for the next permanent manager

Would you credit Steven Schumacher, followed by another ex-Plymouth boss Ryan Lowe

    https://www.olbg.com/news/next-plymouth-argyle-manager-betting-odds-bookies-now-look-who-will-take-over-pilgrims-after-wayne-rooney-departs

Maybe Plymouth board will be thinking more creatively than bookies?

Both Schumacher and Lowe were successful so I'd say that both would be welcomed back.

Happy New Year one and all, and looks like a good start by Stoke, who have appointed Mark Robins as their new manager.

Ryan Shawcross oversees today's game vs Burnley, but Robins will be at the helm to try put another nail in the Plymouth coffin, on Saturday.

I find it hard to like Stoke, they go through so many managers - but I do hope Robins does a job there.

Rooney will be fine anyway, will be back in the punditry and media circuit straight away.

    Yep looks that way

This is probably his lot going forward; better than 99.999% of the human race I reckon…

Josh Windass with a stunning strike from inside his own half for Wednesday today.

love a good halfway goal since I saw Anders Limpar do it against Liverpool at Highbury back in the 90's!

Wayne Rooney regarded as "one of the best Pundits iin the business" you have to laugh…TV punditry is a joke these days, not one of them know how to breakdown and analysis a game to any great detail. Carragher is probably the best, but he's also painful to listen to at times. Neville was decent when he first moved across to Sky, but I do wonder do he even look at any football outside of the games he does commentary on.

Anyways, not to get distracted. I reckon that's Rooney done in management. I was actually shocked he got awarded the Plymouth job in the first place. He has never even given the slightest hint that he maybe bcapable of good things on the management side of things.

Some very odd surnames in these line-ups, especially on the Bristol City side

    https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1827730/Live/England-Championship-2024-2025-Plymouth-Bristol-City

    Twine, Pring, Dickie, Bird, Earthy

There I was, enjoying my Pring dinner, and still hadn't heard a dickie-bird about their Earthy kit, held together with Twine.

    I'll get my coat!

Pring is something you can eat? Excellent

Apparently Mr. Twine spent time at Waterford
