But the same issues apply to any other system. We haven't had a LB in nearly 18 months.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

I wouldn't be at all surprised. I mean they took Sancho who was both performing worse and also causing more hassle from a disciplinary point of view.

And they constantly spend money like nobody's business.

When Amorim won the league with Sporting in his second season, it was their first league title win in 19 years. Impossible not to win? Absolute rubbish.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,787 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

They lost 4 in a row and were top due to Amorims coaching having them so far ahead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,227 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Not only were they aware, but according to Amorim himself, his style and system was the main reason they wanted him.

not a chance, lucky to get 20 for him, utd will supplement his wages for remainder of contract. Utd don't have any room for negotiation, manager wants rid.

Don’t agree. We’d have less square pegs in round holes by going to a flat back 4.
Our full backs are just not equipped to play the wing back role. Yes the left side is consistently a problem but you only exaggerate that issue by forcing the 2nd /3rd choice LB to play as a Wing back..

Plus we could free up Amad to play on the right wing again. Which is clearly his best position

According to reddit this journo is good for Brazil/Portuguese football, with him and possibly Rashford sold could free up money, although....

Bear in mind that Dalot was Uniteds player of the season last season, mainly playing at LB.

We all know he isn't Maldini but he was able to do a job there, certainly better than what we are seeing now.

Everybody has their opinion on the bigger picture but one thing is clear, the current setup is really, really not a good use of resources.

Your original point is nonsense,.you said there are only 3 teams in the league and it is impossible not to be top, 3 doesn't divide into one for a start,

Also amiron guided sporting to their first title In 19 years so the impossible you call was actually very frequent.

The level of posting here tonight is in the toilet

Im pretty drunk thats my excuse for my worse than usual posting 😅

Ha ha I know you are joking but nothing wrong with your posting.

But I do suspect one two many sherries are to blame for others no doubt

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,689 ✭✭✭✭FourFourRED

Well that’s not true. He played right back for the majority of games last season.

That quote was taken from the post match interview, talk sport have it up on socials.

I'd advise people here to watch it somehow. He raises a lot of good points and is clearly frustrated.

Think Lauire Whitewall asked him why not change the formation to suit some the players.

    He replied in something like,

If he goes back to what the players know then my system will not work, I was brought in because the team was losing anyway the last 2 years, why go back when it breaks my beliefs etc. Something along those lines.

I agree with him completely, we won't change if we try and suit the players, we will finish a record low no doubt and sky will pull up a random stat like I seen earlier of a 19 game thing. Who the hell makes a stat like that unless it's a narrative to get clicks. When has 19 games been a barometer and has any team ever been judged by that...

    The media is scandalous.

His playing style shows, like many managers before him that there is so many players not up for it and the mix of hodge dodge trying to get different players from different managers to work.

Has been Slot's saving grace this year imo, he's gone in to look Liverpool and has all of Klopps signings ready to him but trained a different way.

We have a group, wouldn't even call it a squad but a group of lads that have had either 2/3/4 different managers trying to do the same again in changing the style when they can't, and sure why would they when on mega money.

Amorim is 39 and will be a success no doubt, youngeat manager in years but my god, the clearest with us and what is going on in only 6 weeks at the job.

It's a long term job which should be given to some long term.

This season is a right off and I wouldn't want any European football next season. Get the minutes on the training ground.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,008 ✭✭✭AidoEirE

If Amorim changes to 4 at the back this season, that'll be it. He'll be out of s job by this time next year, because it's admitting,.these guys clearly can't play my system and I'm giving in to them not being able to do it my way.

He needs to stick to what he believes in. We're **** this season so far but with what's going on, what it will do is expose players that cant, won't or are unable to play his style.

Id prefer that, finish 15th and we as fans here and the punters paying 66pound a game, see players that will show the true colors because they are not up for it, rather than him changing his beliefs now to finish maybe in a battle for EL.

And it will be before anything changes, my fear is the lack of time given for a change.

In the league, we will find it the hardest by any other club media wise because it's a constant.

How has, Slot not getting attention he deserves, Chelsea doing well, Nuno at Forrest killing it and Arteta's maybe downfall from a title challenge. The Pep collapse is not as huge as reported.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,731 ✭✭✭Caustic

It really is when you compare it in any numbers of ways, pep is being treated with kids gloves by the interviewers one lad apologized to him a few weeks ago for asking hard questions,.when you compare that to the way the media salvatied over ten hagg aggressively hounding him untill he was gone, even the likes of Howe and Postegoglu had many similar finishes and up and downs like TH and no trophies but not one tenth the criticism and they will be after Amiron now even though he is only in the job a minute.

You look at maesrcha at Chelsea was said a few choice things about players but it's no big deal, TH Sancho again huge. Marsecha doesn't get asked about Sancho being dropped every time he doesn't play him.

Grealish at City nothing much written about him just being disappeared from the team and squad after a very good season (2 seasons ago), rashford been terrible for 18 months and amiron gets asked about him still every single game.

United is an absolute circus, and id give Woodward a fair share of the blame on this he courted as much media attention as we could get good or bad, and what we have now is just a feeding frenzy

I would rather he stick with his system and beliefs than cave to these players like Ten Hag, buy himself a year and the rot continues.

I genuinely couldn't care where we finish. He is showing this club and players up for what it is.

Is he making tactical mistakes sometimes. Sure but that's because he's experimenting with players he can build a base around.

Well said. Watching MOTD yesterday, I was watching Salah & as plays roughly the same position as Antony, they are on different planets when comparing. The dog in the street knows all Antony wants to do is cut in from the sideline & try bend a shot to the top left corner of the net, & then give a thumbs up apologising. He’s absolutely useless.

Do what Forest did when they came up from the Championship. Totally press the reset button. Buy 20 non well known players who are hungry enough to give it a go. Sell the rest.

Sorry but you have to be on a wind up, surely ?

I saw his interview after the game where he said relegation is a real possibility.

While I really admire his belief and backbone, imo there is no way Ineos will tolerate a relegation on their watch. Having screwed up the managerial situation early Summer, and having embarrassed themselves with the Ashworth fiasco, SJR won't have his name further tainted as the guy who brought relegation back to Old Trafford for the first time in 50 years.

They arrived at Christmas 2023 as the supposed saviours of the club. In the following year we've plunged from 8th to 14th, have lost 6 of our last 8 and it's going to get even worse looking at the upcoming fixtures.

If RA can't at least temporarily address this slide, Ineos will show their ruthless streak once again.

Talk of Saudi being in for casemiro, we'd need two signing to replace him. One to replace him directly and one to add as the backup we don't have.

If he, and Rashford, were to leave in January it should free up significant funds for signings - could pay 4 players very well for the same money.

he looks like an Aussie rules player playing in a socccer charity fund raiser.

Yeah, that was an awful take in fairness. If it's 'impossible to fail' managing Sporting then why did they go 19 years without a title?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,606 ✭✭✭randd1

Would it be showing a ruthless streak, or showing they can't run a club?

I'm beginning to think the latter.

A ruthless streak would have had them show Ten Hag the door after the cup final, after a season of abject football and abject results. Instead, a contract extension and 200m to spend having already wasted 400m previously, knowing they'll probably end up sacking him.

The cost cutting, while it may be necessary, just smacks of a big business not giving a damn about anything other than the bottom line. I'm sorry now, but that's been the case with the Glazers for 20 years, and the club doesn't need that attitude to be maintained.

I'm beginning to think INEOS are just the Glazers with an English accent, and nothing will really change. I hope I'm very much wrong, but they don't seem to have a clue what they want or do given the past year.

It also ignores that the finances of sporting are massively inferior to benfica and sporting. And financial might usually translates to success. (but, yeah, us.)

There's no doubt the last few months has shown them in a new light. And it's not very flattering. If the Glazers had presided over what we've seen recently, Utd fans would probably be on the point of rioting at this stage.

All that being said, if the nose-dive into the relegation zone continues, it's entering a territory Ineos won't accept imo.

And the outcome for RA will be inevitable.
