Honestly who gives a shite about Europe, club needs a full reset, less games and time on the training pitch will help. We can also get by on a smaller squad without Europe. I'd be absolutely delighted to miss out if don't getting CL (We're not).

I've passed your segment idea onto the MNF editorial team, we think it would be very interesting.

The club does because without it we are goosed from a PSR perspective. I'd love for us not to have soany midweek games in the srsehølêof central Europe but the club badly needs the money.

Top 5?? No matter what happens in the transfer window, we have absolutely no chance of making top 5. If we make top 10 we'll be doing well.

Also, we were not the better team for the majority of the game. Newcastle had it sewn up by half time, which meant they were not obliged to do anything except contain United for the second half. Which they did with ease.

    Nah, thats not totally true.

He then un-did his "fix" by putting Eriksen back deeper, where he's a libility, just to introduce the totally ineffective Garnacho. So he gets zero credit there imo.

Starting Martinez game after game when his form is utterly rancid and he's been at fault for countless goals is just silly and reckless at this point. Should have been dropped at least a month ago. Repeated bad calls there.

Didn't he take Ugarte off recently after just 50 odd minutes ? (think it was the Bournemouth game) and it totally exposed us in midfield and they killed us.

I don't have much confidence in some of his decision making.

i've heard a few people mention olmo. i dont think he works for us given the teams lack of athleticism.

    city will sign him.

The second court today has rejected Barcelona’s appeal to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, reports @

Dan Ashworth has a lot of work to do to sort this squad out..... Oh wait.

INEOS and Berrada are every bit as bad as the Glazers and their CEO's so far.

United left themselves needing to pick Casemiro and Eriksen (sometimes together like today), with no left back at all and short an experienced striker, at the same time they were signing Zirkzee and committing a huge fee on Yoro when other priorities were so clear.

On top of that the squad still has Shaw, Malacia and Lindelof in it. A trio that is so unreliable United signed Jonny Evans in 23/24 - and he is still at United now!

    It is dreadful all round.

It is hard to see how Amorim will get through the winter and bring some momentum into next season without a signing or two in the window, but United don't have the cash.

the ugarte one was due to him having a yellow, but amorim should have gambled and kept him on.

You are just a Pandora's box of bad opinions tonight

I agree but we do have to spend, that much is clear. We've too many square pegs in round holes right now. It wouldn't matter if we went to a back 4 now either because the players aren't there either way. We currently have an assortment of players but not a squad, that needs to be changed asap.

See, this is a reasonable take, but let's just give a little time to deliver that improvement.

He's going to start getting full training weeks with the team now in the New Year and losing to Arsenal in the cup would open up even more time on the training pitch.

I don't know how you'd deliver instant improvement playing every 3 games with a squad lacking in morale and little to no time for tactical instruction.

I'm sure Ruud could've had us finishing top 8 this season with no tactical revolution but I'd prefer we take a bigger risk and actually try to get better long-term.

By the way I expect the team to be playing a lot better by the end of the season.

Stranger things have happened and nobody outside of Liverpool or Arsenal seem capable of going on a run right now.

Probably should be casmaerio you put you ire towards if it needs to be a player as that's who we signed while Newcastle signed their Bruno

Martinez should be dropped but he's the only left footer we have in defense so I think that's playing into it a bit.

Ugarte was taken off as he was booked and the ref was itching to book him again.

Newcastle were in the Champions League last season so just by that you'd think they may have been playing well 2 seasons ago when Howe had just taken over, no 🤔

It doesn't have to be big money though, there is nothing wrong with looking back into the Sabitzer/Weghorst/Ighalo level bargain bin again. Nobody we sign is going to turn that team into contenders so we shouldn't be buying for that, we just need solid players that will do what the manager needs and play a role in settling the ship.

I'll probably get told that it will take another year or two for the INEOS scouting team to get up to speed, but surely somebody in the club has their eye on a few bargains.

The decision making during the summer was atrocious. It was an awful decision making my INEOS to not sack ETH during the summer and then bring in Amorim and then give him the money to buy the players that will suit his system.

i think thats a large reason why he hasnt been dropped yet. another one is the city game - he can pick a pass.

It's going to take a very long time to sort out this squad.

In terms of this summer, Evans, Eriksen, Maguire and Lindelof all have contract expiries. None of them are worth keeping, not on their wages. So first thing you've got to do is bring in at least one, preferably 2, CBs to cover the three exiting (who all still get games) and account for Martinez's form. And you'll want at least one, preferably two, CMs to replace Eriksen and account for Casemiro's age. That business is just to keep the up with departures before you do anything else.

Then you can go shopping for wingbacks. That's 4-6 new players so far. If you get all those done and still have some money left over (hard to see how), and then you can start looking at other positions like striker.

Amorim is in huge trouble if he doesn't start finding a way to win with these players, because INEOS will be doing the sums and think its a smaller problem if we just get a coach who plays with 4 at the back and doesn't need us to sign 2-3 wingbacks to get his system working.

It's not impossible but right now there is absolutely nothing to indicate it's a possibility with this group of players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,961 ✭✭✭✭Zeek12

When we had Cas & Ugarte playing together in front of a flat back four (under Ruud) we were far more solid, and harder to play through. It's less than two months ago that we drew with Chelsea with this selection. And look how far we've fallen in that short time.

I know everyone wants to back the manager and his philosophy. But honestly it's very difficult to see how this group can play his 3-4-3. We just don't have wingbacks, and on the left side we have very little at all. Maz and Dalot as wingbacks is simply not working.

If you move Amad to RWB, which is the obvious choice - we're then left short in the No. 10 position. 3-4-3 just doesn't add up with this squad imo.

Yes but they were incredibly inconsistent.

I think we need some patience with RA and INEOS IMO. They've only had one window to work with and even at that they didn't have the football structure fully set up before the summer window opened. RA is learning just how difficult the PL is but I fully believe he's the right man for us but will need backing from the club and fans.

Question if they finally decide to go ahead and build the new stadium, wont this free up some money for transfers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,444 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

I'd say one of the few places Amorim will find relatively unconditional support is from INEOS. They've tied themselves to him in a big way imo.

They went all out to get one the hottest young coaches in world football fully aware of how he would want to play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,572 ✭✭✭mcburns07

But if we aren't in Europe we can clear out more players and get their wages off the books + some transfer fees in. We don't need a big squad without Europe and we can get the ball rolling on shaping the squad. (Maybe i'm being naive here)

Jim will have Sir Gareth Southgate in before the end of the year, I bet. I think I’ll call it a day for a couple of years if that happens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,708 ✭✭✭BoardsMember

It's all a complete farce. The last number of signings, the timing of ETH exit/Amorim arrival, the determination to play a system the squad doesn't have the players for. INEOS have made a bad situation considerably worse. If this were a Mom and Pop shop, it would be boarded up. If it was a PLC, the board would be long fired. It's like someone on acid playing FIFA Manager.

The only voice Southgate had pushing for him at any point has been sacked.
