I hope to update my bathroom in next month. It measures about 6 'x 8'. I want to remove the bath/sink/toilet and floor tiles . The toilet will be moved to a new position on an outside wall where it can join up with the original waste pipe. The bath will be replaced by a shower unit.

So that's new floor tiles..new toilet.. sink and shower unit. The walls will be painted..

Broad question I know but any idea what all the above might cost..

    Thanks.

We did a similar job recently for €8,500

Remove all tiles from walls and floors

Move toilet to different wall, replace baths with shower, glass screen etc. tiles floor and walls

why would you paint the walls as opposed to tiling them?

    Thanks for reply...

    Re painting..

I just like that I can change the look with a can of paint in an hour or two ...

We did a similar job ourselves a year or so ago on a tiny bathroom measuring 6 feet by 6 feet 6.

Stripped out the bath and replaced with the smallest one available, replaced the plasterboard, tiled the three walls around the bath and the floor, replaced the toilet and basin, got a heated mirror and a heated towel rail/radiator.
Cost about 5k and was a horrible job as the door had to be moved to get the bath in. Every blessed thing was an issue. Took absolute months. I curse the builders who squeezed a “family” bathroom into the smallest possible space.

Have you thought about what type of shower, one with its own separate pump will give you a super shower, you might need a bigger water tank if you're not already set up for one. It'll add a bit to the cost but well worth it.

There are three approaches that will have different prices:

    1. DIY
    2. Direct labour managed by yourself
    3. Turnkey contractor

Material costs are a killer at the moment. We have a 1.8m x 1.6m downstairs shower room that needs a complete back-to the brick / joists gut and based off my research of prices online, going the DIY route for everything bar the replacement of the electric shower (which Insurance requires is done by a professional), I'm still looking at well over €3,000 for materials alone.

To be fair, I'm mostly getting prices from the B&Q website as most of the heat merchants/builders providers don't have decent websites or online pricing available.

Check out bathshack.com just did a full refit of three bathrooms and bought all our sanitary ware here. Free delivery over 700 I think.

For tiles I found tile merchant in Ballymount good.

All plumbing and electrics done by myself. I paid a tiler a daily rate when I was ready for him.

I supplied all materials. Took longer than expected!

Yeah, used bathshack when we were doing the main bathroom and like yourself, hired a tiler for the bits I wasn't able to do myself. Was a bit luckier doing the family bathroom as it was 8 years ago and prices were much lower (far less needed in that room too tbf). The major win I had that time though was getting all the sanitary ware second hand off adverts. Just needed a few washers/rings etc. when fitting them. The missus wanted a vintage look and got an authenticlly vintage bathroom! 🤣

This time around I'm noticing a huge jump in price on things like the cement board, timber for joists, plasterboard etc. Can't imagine they'll ever come down again but definitely means having to save for longer to pay for it all!

I was shocked at how dear cement board is now.

I just have to decorate one room downstairs at that's me finished for a while.

    Famous last words!!

    Recently got a quotation for a turn-key solution for a 2.1mx2.2m bathroom.

Full stripdown and replacement of all fixtures. Got a quote of €14,500 inc. VAT- excluding soil pipe works for moving the toilet (+€1500).

Asked for a breakdown of the labour and materials. The materials, tiles and fittings came to €6,735, which leaves the balance for labour, an eye-wattering, €7,765 (didn't include re-slabbing roof, refitting spots either).

Interested so had to look it up, I bought a few sheets of 8x4' 12.5mm back in Nov 2016 for an ensuite remodel which was €43.05 at the time, same now is €63 so a ~46% increase in 8 years, bad alright.
