There's been no manager bounce at all - ETH was sacked with 11 points from 9 games, and right now the form is even worse with just 7 points in 7 games. The season could be over on Jan 12th if Arsenal put us out of the FA cup, which they're likely to do.

Onana, Dalot, Bruno, Hojlund all shocking today.

Wolves are awful and we were worse.

I'm busy for the next few games so won't see them thank god!

He can't just keep losing games like this though. We've lost 3 on the bounce and may not win any of the next 3 either. Master plan or not, of he loses 6 games in a row that's completely unacceptable. I admire what he's trying to do and I think we are actually better than the results suggest but at some stage the defeats will catch up with him.

To take a different tack on it...

If you seen that very few of the players will suit you long term, what's the point in continuing to "misuse" them in such a style? Trying to embed a style on a bunch of players you'll want to replace ASAP?

I suppose the reality is he'll need 13 or so of these players to be capable in the formation for the next 18 months or so, then 8 or 9 etc etc.

It’s funny, ETH got 3 years of excuses and some people still thought he was hard done by at the end. Already see people turning on Amorim after 6 weeks.

Which of these players aren't good enough?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,941 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Without Bruno, urgarte and Rashford in the next game will be terrifying to see what the team is.

Garnacho, amad and zirkzee up top? Casemiro abd eriksen? Fullbacks creating nothing on either side again?

Zero improvement...if this continues we'll be on another Manager hunt soon...I really expected a new manager bounce but this has been a disastrous start

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,262 ✭✭✭piplip87

The Manager needs to change up the system. He does not have the players to play this way. Bruno looks absolutely lost. Kobie can't play in a two and the two tens are a mix of central players and wingers.

We do however can play a 352 so it could be a compromise.

This project will fail unless he can sign 8 or so starting quality players.

    Next 3 fixtures: Newcastle(H) , Liverpool (A), Arsenal (A)

Won’t be long till the media start turning on Amorim. This club is cursed

Bruno has been lost for a long time now.

This is a typical ETH performance, it's nothing to do with formation. Does a formation cost us that first goal?

This is on the players full stop. Majority of these players should be no where near UTD

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,941 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

At the moment I'd say we need new first choice lcb, lwb, rwb, cm, am and st.

So them? And certainly the replacements in most cases.

based on today, mainoo and the front 4 today were useless. i'd move amad back to wing back.

god knows what you do with the rest.

in terms of defense, dalot has been crap all season. maz at wing back aint working. need de ligt back.

i think too many of our players slow down the ball way too much.

Used to be a lot to be said for having a defender on each post at corner's,would have prevented tonight's first goal.

If any manager can get a tune out of the rubbish ETH left behind they'd be up for Sainthood for performing a miracle.

A very weak shot at Amorim.

Keeping ETH for the summer and trusting him swith money to make the squad even worse has set us back years.

The formation isn't really the problem right now. 442 isn't suddenly going to make us defend set pieces better. Nor will it make us a better attacking team when most of our attackers are mid table journeymen who have landed at Utd (a mid table team). We need to lick out and find a striker from somewhere, anywhere, and a LWB because Dalot is killing the team there.

Going by this forum alone you can see the seeds of turning on Amorim already with posts questioning why there isn't a new manager bounce as if the trajectory under ETH was going anywhere else. It's like some United fans still believe that this expensive squad riddled with junk and low intelligence footballers should be finishing in the top half of the table

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,924 ✭✭✭Whatsisname

Yup, Amorim has ETHs squad better coached than ETH did in 3 years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,782 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

I think it's sarcasm, the players are just awful.

He can't sign a keeper in December.....when you have a keeper that won't come for a cross or corner you are always going to struggle on set pieces.

Add in Martinez, Amad, Mainooo, Bruno...that's 4 others who are weak in the air...so it's something that we may have to put up with

    What a mess.

The manager is getting nothing at times from this group in his style. We are not seeing much from many members of the squad that say they are going to be able to fit around new players that come in.

The manager and squad are so mismatched. He is locked into an ideal that he has gone all in on so early that he can't change it now.

4 losses from 5 in the league is atrocious, worse when three of them are Forest, Bournemouth and Wolves when all those teams reflect a manager trying to play a certain way but where the squad is set out to get the best from it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,181 ✭✭✭✭Sand

Why hire Amorim if you haven't got the players to play his system and have significant PSR concerns which mean you cant just go out and buy 8 or 9 players? Surely it would have made more sense to get a coach that could work with the squad as it is.

I think its valid to have some concerns about INEOS's planning here. Hire Ashworth (with great difficulty), starts in July, sacked in December. Plan to sack ETH prior to FA cup final, back him after the FA cup final, sack him in October. Hire Amorim to manage a team that doesn't have the players he needs for his system. Its not inspiring stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,941 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

We need to sign a lwb and a cm in January.

Not saying those fix everything but I think they are needed to have any chance of working this formation.

Ugarte is the only cm performing at the moment, and we look significantly weaker every minute he doesn't play.

The fear is that we just don't have the money to do it. And are stuck with wgat we have.

Just look at the subs that came on today to try turn things around, there was never any confidence in them from me.

Ineos really fcked up the season in reality. They should have sacked ETH in May, and appointed RA at that point . We wasted a transfer window buying players for a manager and system that's not there now. RA didn't want to come in Nov, but Ineos put a gun to his head. The present FU is on Ineos.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,941 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

So get mdl, casemiro and Maguire in the side. Mdl and casemiro are our best players in the air imo and we aren't using them to try solve the issue.

You can argue selecting all 3 in the side would be dumb or unworkable I guess, but based on the current issues I'd be going onana, mdl, maguire, martinez, casemiro, Ugarte, amad, mazraoui, garnacho, Bruno, abd whichever firward, as a starting plan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,211 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

Asking him to bring something to the party isn't "turning on the manager". It is simply the bare minimum.

Its like some people think he is brewing a secret cocktail out the back and when the time is right his new team is going to suddenly explode and take over the league, so we just have to ignore what we are watching and trust in the future cocktail.

Nah, doesn't work like that. Good managers improve teams and players, and the improved teams then start doing better and better over time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,211 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

Going by this forum some people think it not possible that the new manager might not be all they desperately want him to be.

Imo you could argue that a back 3 of martinez, mdl and yoro should work. Mainoo and Ugarte cm. Ineos would clearly have hoped Rashford and Bruno off the striker would have worked, dalot at wb (on paper) seemed a good fit.

On paper I thought we could have a good first choice in this formation.

Rashford and Bruno not doing it, mainoo looks terrible, martinez playing his worst etc etc.

When we hired amorim wb positions were where I had my fear, but everywhere has been crap.
