General sheep thread

Have a Ewe in lamb to lamb middle of February who's gone very thin in last few weeks and seems to be pining away. She would be up to date on doses including getting a fluke dose about a month ago.

Any advice on anything I can do to help her turn the corner.

No she's not scanned yet as waiting on scanner man.

I'll take her out tomorrow and check her teeth and start giving her some meal.

Might also give her a dose of Levifas Diamond to see if it helps

If you can, I'd feed her twice a day. Only wat to get her back into a bit of condition

I checked her teeth today and they were fine so don't think that's the problem.

I gave here a dose of Thriver and started her on some ewe and lamb nuts so we see how she gets on.

Was thinking of giving her a bottle of Ketovic also but will be Monday now before I can get it.

Is she old, I've seen them look fine at mating and then go down hill when hardship comes.

Sure see how she gets on with the individual attention. A tonic should be good too.

You could consider slaughter too, she'll probably take more time than she's worth now.

rams went out late this year due to unforeseen circumstances so lambing starting on April 1st….i usually lambed around March 15th or 20th

Id say with late springs and marginal land I might be as far on but I’m wondering how do lads lambing this late manage grass…..if you follow the guidelines with paddocks rested for 100 days it means I should start closing up to Christmas Day but that would mean grazing good grass in January and February that I should be saving for spring ….maybe it’s just this winter with good growing back end but I still have enough grass to carry me to lambing without housing the ewes but I’m would be mad to graze it a month before lambing ??

She should be alright so, the loose wool could be a sign of fluke but you have that covered.

Adult sheep can succumb to worms if their immunity goes down as this one is and you'll have that covered too,

Be aware that too much feeding can cause an oversized lamb too, now that you know she only has a single.

She should be alright now, hopefully she'll make it now

We lamb April 1st onwards every year and it works out fine if your not to highly stocked, started closing fields up last week, so we will take all sheep off field 1st of February, we get away with this , and little fertiliser in April and it works out fine

we might have one field left with sheep locked into it but at a low density and a bit of silage in a feeder, the key for that field is it might be grazed bare but it’s not wrecked from to much sheep on it , fertiliser in April give it a rest then and it’ll come back fine .

Anyone an idea how much an advantage feeder would be. I'm short grass this year and thinking of getting one to feed oats to the sheep

lot less than that, I’ve two batches of lambs on them at the moment at around 500gms a day & that’s not fully shut down.

Any February/early March lads scan yet? Hopefully get it done in next 2 weeks here.
