Did you miss my comment or something? They are under £50 on Ebay?

Just bought, have been on the fence for weeks but pulled the trigger today.

Question, I opted for the hire purchase option. I don't see where to go thru application etc etc... Do they reach out to you or what's the system here?? Thanks

Seen some talk of a 6 seater Model Y in 2025.

New shape also set to start production in China in January.

Anybody get car ceramic coating or ppf job done after getting car?? . Have read some reports around the quality of paint used by tesla and contemplating getting it done when I pick up new car. In case it makes a difference have opted for the Midnight Cherry colour.

    Thanks

Quality of the paint is as good as any other Asian car, Kia, Hyundai, BYD etc

It’s not as hard as the German paint but it’s not as bad as it’s made out online.

I’ve never done PPF, just regular washing and maintenance on top of coatings but I’ve put coatings on all my cars, irrespective of the brand. Ceramic coating will aid the washing but it won’t protect against chips or scrapes etc.

Supposedly only a launch announcement is due in a few weeks. Very much looking forward to seeing what it looks like. The current version already looks dated in my eyes.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,534 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

It’s gonna look like the current M3. But higher. It’s not gonna be a major surprise IMO.

It’s a facelift, not a “new” model so I’d be looking at the facelift versions of the i4, EV6, ID4 and M3 to see how it till be small refinements rather than a new car visually.

The current version was dated at launch, a horrible bubble looking yoke but would have to assume COD related. The need something more slick and with a higher capacity LiFePO4 battery than current 60kWh limitation. They have space with higher seats but not with the current structural battery pack design

My stuff on Adverts, mostly Tesla Pre Highland Model 3

    And most owners buy white

If Tesla changed the model y to have a little worse COD rating, do you think it would hurt sales, assuming range just came into line with the opposition but looked a lot better?

I don't think even tesla fans buy it for its looks, they buy it for the supercharging network and tech, which are top notch in fairness.

Could they attract the buyers that go for style, or are they doing well enough and happy as is?

I think the tech and performance is what sets them apart. I don’t use superchargers or any public charger for that matter but I do like the minimalist interior. I’ve always liked minimalist design and architecture. That was the selling point for me.

    The people that won’t buy a Tesla, do so for the following reasons IMO ;

    1. Musk
    2. Interior minimalism/design
    3. Exterior design

I don’t think changing one of them would draw new buyers. It would have to be at least 2 or possible 3 of them that would need significant changing.

For the model 3, all I'd need to change is the interior minimalism, but then again I'd rule out loads of interiors not just tesla. Quite a decent looking car from outside if not spectacular.

For the Y it would be interior and exterior design.

Couldn't care who runs the company, I've even been a very minority shareholder in the past but sold too soon!

I even look at people adding those S3XY buttons and it hurts me. I’m the complete opposite.

The inability to be able to trade in a car is also a significant factor holding back new Tesla sales here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,535 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

I'd imagine awful trade in prices hurt sales in Ireland more than all those put together. Then two "dealerships" for the country isn't helping matters either.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,534 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Probably. But they do accept trade ins. I would generally never trade in, so that doesn’t affect me currently. But remember, most garages are offering awful trade in prices nowadays. Always sell private.

It says a lot when the likes of Vector Motors and Graham Walker Cars actively advertise looking for Tesla’s and actively post on the Tesla FB telling people to come to them before trading in. That they will generally beat their offer.

Would more garages help sales? Deffo!

Belfast is also an option for people up around the border and the fact that you can go and book in there for warranty etc helps.

The service arrangements are the best in the business, by a long shot. That helps too.

But for the normal Joe soap, my parents, or people of a certain vintage, they like the old dealer model for sure.

Yes, they do “accept” trade ins but their offers are generally on the paltry side of things. I can understand why offers would be weak on other makes but they don’t even seem to want to take in Teslas.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,534 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Funny enough, the one time I did trade I was on a Tesla and they beat all other quotes by over €10k. It’s hit and miss.

Duffys offered me €43k off an i4 when the MSport was €63k. Tesla offered €57,800 off anything. Made the choice at the time very easy.

Well in fairness to the " people" out there, musk doesn't really matter.

For me it was suspension, glass roof with no blind and plastic seats with fixed headrest and limited boring colours.

I really liked screen, and efficiency and charging speeds. But not enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,381 ✭✭✭MightyMunster

Not sure why you'd need a blind for the roof, assuming you live in Ireland.

it's tinted, and in 5yrs I've never once thought I wish I had a blind on this. Not sure what difference it would make other than looking crap.

    I think he's being facetious.

Buyers queuing up to hand over 1500-2000 to brands for a light-filling panoramic roof, yet one chap wants a blind 😂

Buyers also actively opting for non-animal leather seat finishings across the world, be that pleather or something else.

Have a look at the range of colours from manufacturers these days - hard to spot a standard colour anymore. None of your Azure Sunset Mediterranean blue, or Twilight Sahara Sandstorm nonsense of course. Maybe that's the issue 😅

So purchased a preconfigured cherry LR Y..all steps complete on the App including monies paid and confirmation of receipt from Tesla.

    Vin nr allocated.

The preconfigured Y that was on their website as available has disappeared.

They are saying delivery estimate between jan 9th & 24th.

In peoples experience does this date ever be brought forward or am I most likely looking at a near end of month collection date.

    Appreciated

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 965 ✭✭✭JOL1

Most likely associated with recent shipment (some transporters spiottedon M50 in recent days) . Large volumes arrive in shipment, have to be transported from port to collection site and pre-delivery works completed and then appointments are staggered (Tesla have small staff so this is done over a period). I suspect what you are seeing is the 2 week window during which Tesla expect to deliver all cars on the shipment…so its a matter of being patient and awaiting next communication but it could happen anytime soon. You will normally get a week or so notice. Hang tight

Am I right in thinking the current version has indicator stalks and the facelift being released this year won't have them?

Adding the Y to the short list when changing this year but aren't really too familiar with all the different versions/specs. Will go for a test drive in a few weeks but if it's all going to be changing in a few months that will confuse things!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,273 ✭✭✭Marty Bird

Yes potentially it will have no stalks like the Highland but nothing confirmed.

I have driven the M3 without the stalks and it was very easy to get used to it. I can see that some people won't like the idea, but it's easy enough to get the hang of it.

The Revamped Model Y has now officially launched in China with actual pics…and new colour "Glacier Blue"

Camera now incorporated on front bumper and notably Indicator stalk is retained (not following trend with Mod 3)
