There was a time I couldn't wait to dive into them, now they all just taste meh. Bought a tub to hand out in class to the kids I teach and most of them wouldn't even touch them.

This is controversial. I had a discussion on Boards years ago saying not only was the quality far less than before, different size bars tasted differently.

Others said it tasted all the same. I can’t remember if they were smokers.

I’d liken it to the Glazers buying out MU (not a fan) and milked it (pun not intended) and squeezed it dry, with accountant types (I’m an accountant) rather than aficionados holding sway. Terrible so it is 😭

I struggle to think of a mainstream brand who's quality has dropped as much as Cadburys has over the past 20 years.

The Dairy Milk chocolate is like chalk compared to what it used to be back when they used actual milk.

They don't put "milk chocolate" on the label anymore as it's below the eu min of 25% cocoa solids

I'm working my way thru a Christmas box of Milk Tray here. It's not the same chocolate compared to a few years ago. It has gotten more sugary, and 'grainier'.

What is with that word "loose" and people struggling to use it correctly?

Theyve been substituting cocoa butter for other vegetables fats, notably palm and Shea and have had to adjust other aspects of the formulation as a consequence.

Thats why it tastes like **** compared to 30 years ago. It's also why it's so cheap compared to back then too. Chocolate related commodities have all gotten a lot more expensive. I imagine original formulation Cadbury would be at least 3x more expensive than now

The best "high street" chocolate is Galaxy, imo. Mind you, I eat chocolate about twice a year so I'm far from a connoisseur.

There are some seriously high-end chocolates out there, though. I know someone who has a chocolatier in Liege and goes on a buying trip once a year. All for his own use, and to be given as the odd gift.
