OK why would we be bothered in Ireland? But my first thought was its because the chocolate has got so bad and thats a world wide issue.

Edit> looses > loses ;-)
The Guardian article says “and was reportedly a favourite of Queen Elizabeth II until her death in 2022” which may explain why it has now been dropped, maybe they no longer purchase it for the royal households. Also sounds like Charles prefers Bendicks.
May explain why she died ;-)
Deserve to lose it cos of their shrinking bar sizes.
Shocking stuff.
Is there a political element to the removal? The BBC article hints at it - Mondelez and Unilever both lost royal warrants, and they were the two companies named by a Ukrainian support group as still operating in Russia?
I remember some tobacco companies had the warrant on the front of their packs of cigarettes, a different time 🤣
Cadbury Ireland and Uk are different are they not , must be 30 years+ sampled a Uk bar over IRL bar and liked ours better IRL all the way
Deserved it for their crimes against Roses.
There was a time I couldn't wait to dive into them, now they all just taste meh. Bought a tub to hand out in class to the kids I teach and most of them wouldn't even touch them.
I bought my first box of roses in years for tomorrow but have been hearing bad reports. In the words of William Wallace, "They may take our lives but the better not f**k with cadbury roses.
My mother did QA in Cadbury's. If she learnt the quality had dropped, well it's a good thing she's dead because the shame would kill her.
This is controversial. I had a discussion on Boards years ago saying not only was the quality far less than before, different size bars tasted differently.
Others said it tasted all the same. I can’t remember if they were smokers.
I’d liken it to the Glazers buying out MU (not a fan) and milked it (pun not intended) and squeezed it dry, with accountant types (I’m an accountant) rather than aficionados holding sway. Terrible so it is 😭
Dropped would be putting it mildly. Plummeted.
But, I think it’s planned rather than accidental, so would have passed QC.
I struggle to think of a mainstream brand who's quality has dropped as much as Cadburys has over the past 20 years.
The Dairy Milk chocolate is like chalk compared to what it used to be back when they used actual milk.
Not for many years
And a lot of it is made in now made Turkey.
Many years ago, you would get a creamier taste from the chocolate made in Coolock compared to the UK as its used Irish milk which is predominantly from grass fed cows, whereas in the UK, feed is used a lot more in rearing of milk cows.
Coolock is now closed. It used to be the only factory that made the Flake (and twirl and timeout) as it required a specialist machine and a particular manufacturing process. I think these items moved to Turkey
Coolock is not closed, still pumping out chocolate.
Deserve to lose it because it is muck!
They don't put "milk chocolate" on the label anymore as it's below the eu min of 25% cocoa solids
Cadbury's: There's still a glass and a half in each chocolate.
Bull Mick: Yeah, a glass and a half of shite.
I'm working my way thru a Christmas box of Milk Tray here. It's not the same chocolate compared to a few years ago. It has gotten more sugary, and 'grainier'.
Yes, Cadbury don't actually make chocolates, they make sweets.
So what’s the best chocolate if cadburys isn’t? I reckon there secret Santa setup is great.
Milka is unreal, you’ll never touch a bar of Cadburys again…
L
Ah no. Can’t be having milka over cadburys it’s completely inferior.
Yeah, the mini twirls can only be described as chalk.
At first you think, ugh gone off. Nope, that’s the actual taste. I’d say they have been tweaking it for years, boiling frog… cheaper and cheaper.
Milka like Cadbury is owned by Mondelez
Correct, as is Toblerone, Reeses, Fry’s, Green & Blacks among others.
What is with that word "loose" and people struggling to use it correctly?
The Red Lindt chocolate. Best.
Theyve been substituting cocoa butter for other vegetables fats, notably palm and Shea and have had to adjust other aspects of the formulation as a consequence.
Thats why it tastes like **** compared to 30 years ago. It's also why it's so cheap compared to back then too. Chocolate related commodities have all gotten a lot more expensive. I imagine original formulation Cadbury would be at least 3x more expensive than now
You've loost me there?
The best "high street" chocolate is Galaxy, imo. Mind you, I eat chocolate about twice a year so I'm far from a connoisseur.
There are some seriously high-end chocolates out there, though. I know someone who has a chocolatier in Liege and goes on a buying trip once a year. All for his own use, and to be given as the odd gift.
It's very common for people to get lose and loose mixed up, I think it's more of an Irish thing than English. I often don't even notice when people get it wrong. I always have to double check I have the right one.
On Rose's : they were always absolutely rubbish as far as I'm concerned!
