They dominated the home game against Faroes but Faroes won it with a very soft pen. Pressure was then on Armenia to go to Latvia and win, which they managed to do.

Not a bad draw. Better we get Denmark instead of Portugal.

Hopefully, HH learns from the nations league and ignores the likes of OTB, Ken Early and Dion Fanning.

I think it's better we actually draw a pot 1 team that's gonna take 18/18 points. We still gotta remember Hungary are a League A team. Have been now for back to back NL campaigns while also featuring in the last three Euro tournaments.

Hungary fans will be licking their lips hoping it's Denmark because that gives them a better shot at automatic qualification. Whereas IMO it makes it more difficult for us if you've got a Pot 1 and 2 team who could take points off each other.

So for me I'd rather Portugal and that way it's left amongst ourselves and Hungary for second.

Well yeah. If we're looking to come 2nd, you're looking for 10 points - 6 against Armenia and 4 against Hungary. Its not a crazy scenario. Of course, Portugal/Denmark and Hungary are favorites for first and second.

My only hope is that we are a team on the up whereas Denmark, Hungary and Armenia seem to have peaked (unless they have some kids I don't know about) so maybe just maybe we can get a run going.

Right now I still would back us "on the up" against their post peak teams.

We're not on the up though imo. We're still in the can HH steady a sinking ship. I've been impressed with some of our play and think he's doing well.

We were fortunate to do the double over Finland. Luck was finally on our side for once as I don't think we could have complained if we went in 2 or 3-0 down at halftime instead of 1-0 up in that home game.

Though there's a lot of football to be played between now and our first qualifier. That I'm very happy for as it gives HH at least four more games and hopefully a proper training camp come June to future install his tactics.

Regardless of who we draw as the Pot 1 team hopefully HH has a little extra luck come his way and we get a handy schedule fall our way. Fingers crossed Kenny used up all our bad luck whilst in charge.

    I did say "hope".

And that's a hope we are on the up by then so I think you are pretty much agreeing with my sentiment in your 3rd paragraph.

Your right Breezy though, it couldn't have got any lower with SK in charge so the only way we can be at the moment is on the up. And anyone can say this and that will happen with our fixtures, sure City look like Burnley at the moment so it's not incomprehensible a mini-miracle happens and we do qualify, although it is very unlikely based on the resources we have at our disposal, and the fixtures that await

Another easy group for the old enemy.

Looking at the groups they are all easy for the tier 1 teams. Serbia are about as tough as they would expect.

Gone are the days of England even batting an eyelid at qualification.

Don't remember us doing much against Denmark so i'd actually prefer Portugal as we might rise to the occasion against them. Denmark nearly always end our hopes.

From my recollection, we drew 5 of our last 6 games against Denmark? The only loss being the 5-1 hammering.

We did well against Portugal. Almost beating them away but for Ronaldo's two late goals and a 0-0 at home. I'd certainly take Denmark over Portugal though.

We need to beat Hungary at home but the Armenia game away is critical. Need a win there (not easy) or it's over.

Can see us being out after two games again

Vata with both assists for Watford in their 2-1 win over WBA. Delighted for him. This should lead to an extended run in the team after his debut goal midweek.

Ebsoele was an unused substitute for Watford, while Molumby got the goal for WBA and Johnston came on as a halftime sub.

can see us topping the group with 6 points after two games.

Doherty got an assist and Parrot has 3 in 3 now. Evan still not up to much got on for a bit yesterday.

If we want to come at least second we'll likely need 6pts from the first two games at a minimum 4pts. Hungary at home has to be a must win imo in the opening game.

Armenia away we struggled last time. Though Kenny played his part setting us up so poorly. Would be confident that HH will at least get a point away to Armenia. Which wouldn't be bad as long as we beat Hungary at home.

Think the fixtures have been kind enough. We play the top seed at home as our second last game. Whoever that is could already be qualified so may go through the motions against us. May come down to the final game away to Hungary to see who finishes in the top two.

Just see there Finn Azaz has two goals and an assist so far today. That’s 9 assists (most in the championship) and (edit) 8 goals this season (tied 6th highest). Would be great if he could bring that sort of form for Ireland, we need creativity in the side.

Rocco Vata scored a last minute winner against Portsmouth.

Evan not even on the bench tonight.

A January move looking more probably?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,295 ✭✭✭Pauliedragon

He was meant to play but pulled out injured apparantly at the last minute.

It certainly hasn't panned out the way we hoped. He's still only 20 so he has time to come good.

Well he has had virtually zero game time this season under the new manager.

I'd be hopeful with a fresh start somewhere else, we might see a half decent player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,650 ✭✭✭✭pgj2015

I dont think so. Just look at his last goal, he is a natural goal scorer, he just needs to get some confidence and regular game time. Send him to Celtic.

Liverpool star ready to leave Anfield amid concrete Newcastle interest

Liverpool are willing to sell Caoimhin Kelleher for the right price next summer and Newcastle are keeping an eye on the situation, although Alisson’s future could affect things.

That's disappointing that Liverpool don't consider Caoimhin a future number 1 goalkeeper. Caoimhin needs to be looking after number one at this point in his career, and Newcastle might be a good move for him, if true and if it happens.
