I've removed the video, it has your email address and full name visible in it.

That's why I didn't try to upload the video of the jumping pages in case that happened!

    @Boards.ie: Mike . It's unfair .

Everybody else winding down for Christmas but hey , what fresh hell is this when this jumping, scrolling and tagging is just not working coming into the holiday week ?!

Somebody in Vanilla taking the proverbial ?

I’m convinced “..somebody in Vanilla..” is the 14 year old teenager who created it for a computer studies class project.
It’s not suitable for Boards & never has been.

Thanks for that, it reportedly only got 3 views and deleted off youtube as well! Forgot about profile popup and I was one to report the change that cause that to appear. Should have used 'ctrl + r' instead of navigating to the links for it.

Edit:- Don't think it is happening anymore now!

Mobile site and thread pages are still bouncing constantly for me. I honestly never liked this feature at all. Could it not be updated to just appear immediately on the newest post, without the automatic scrolling?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,819 ✭✭✭✭osarusan

Clicking on a link to a post made yesterday actually takes you to a random post as much as 3 or 4 years old.

yep to get here I clicked the new post link I was taken to page 9 we are currently on page 88

Wake me up when it's all over.

just use latest post from your bookmarks that always lands to the first unread. trying to go a comment directly, from notification or even one in a quoted post is pointless.

Has there been any acknowledgement from Boards re this or a fix by date?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,282 ✭✭✭gipi

On a multi page thread, clicking on the "latest post" option brings me to some random post in the thread - could be back several years. This happened in many threads, and it doesn't seem to matter whether I've visited the thread before or not.

Clicking on the thread title, however, brings me to the last post (or the last post I read, if revisiting a thread).

    On android\mobile.

yeah this is what i meant from above, make sure it has latest in the link. easiest from your bookmarks. eg. https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058199223/just-bugs-missing-functionality-reports-no-griping#latest

clicking on anything going to a comment/time throws you anywhere

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,240 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

It only works on the second and subsequent clicks. First time I click on the last post in a thread in my Bookmarks it takes me back to the first post in the thread.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Threads that I remember from several years ago when you go into the OP are coming up as being originally posted last year.

When I tried to quote the OP I was just getting an error message, then my post went up without the quoted OP.

When you’re trying to type into the text box, it freezes. Sometimes I don’t realise it’s frozen and I’m still typing away then suddenly all the letters and words appear.

When you click on the “just now” or recent date / time it should bring you to the most recent post but instead plonks you in the middle of the thread several years back then bounces up and down several times.

When you click back, it doesn’t go back to the position you were on previously in the previous screen, instead the page fully reloads, very frustrating.

Pages are glacially slow at loading compared to vbulletin.

This has been reported a number of times (the landing on a part years old bit).

I saw a thread today or yesterday on my home page, clicked into it, landed on a post from 2010 and thought FFS, holy zombie threads, here we go again - but when I scrolled through to the end (assuming it was yet another ancient thread resurrected by a bot), the latest post was from.... 2010. How it got to my home page i don't know, and when I looked for it again there was no sign of it. It was high up on the home page, so I doubt that a recent post had been deleted by a mod (if it was, it was some feat of ninja editing!)

    A bit of a mystery.

Oh, and just to add, when i clicked on the above post to quote it, I was landed onto a post halfway up the page, not the text box to reply to the thread (also previously reported).

When I clicked on the notification that you mentioned me it landed me in the middle of a page from 2021.

Time to out the old dog out of its misery I think. The website was killed in 2021.

If you quote a post, you have to refresh the page before you can quote another one again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,380 ✭✭✭corkie

You can quote multiple posts in the same reply! Instead of creating multiple reply posts here is another random quote as an example. Although had to save draft and go back a page to quote someone else!

Boards almost needs an online manual at this stage with all the hacks and fixes required to utilise it's functions properly.

    Brutal.

Anytime I click into a thread I have read previous the above happens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,271 ✭✭✭con747

Yeah, that's what I was trying to upload the other day. Even when the jumping stops on pc and you try to scroll up it keeps dragging you back down for a couple of seconds. A real PITA.

So what is the story behind this?

We have some thousand (a lot less ?) regular dailyish users and the owners cannot find a way of providing a half decent platform for them?

Laziness? Meanness? Incompetence? Bad Luck? A black hole fell on them?

Is this the only comparable forum that is supposed to cover all Ireland? Are there others?

Was that Vanilla conversion a horrendously complicated or expensive procedure that cannot now be fixed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,271 ✭✭✭con747

The owner hasn't been on here posting in a very long time but was active on November 25th so is obviously seeing the problems, Mike is trying to juggle all the balls on his own from what I can see. I heard rumours it's up for sale but that could be just pub talk. Vanilla was a big mistake IMHO.

This!! I went searching for a solution but found this thread. Not looking good is it?

The bouncing back up the page is ridiculous. Even when I scroll to the end it resists - as I'm trying to scroll down, the screen is jumping back up.

Also when I try type a comment it doubles up some of what I've typed. So my first word here is This but when I type This, what appears is ThThis. WTF?

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
