I don't think Killer was ever on a central contract?

At the time he was 1st choice for Munster by a decent margin tho, iirc. Looking down the depth chart then we had Loughman, Cronin and Josh Wycherley (who was looking promising).

Cronin was quite experienced and likely on a decent wage, so it looks like they plumped for Loughman and Wycherley (Munster did offer Cronin a deal, which he turned down, I believe).

We had a similar situation at hooker, where relatively experienced guys like Rhys Marshall and Kevin O'Byrne had to be let go.

Post-Covid, they were the exact depth of guys who had to be trimmed from the budget, unfortunately. (Bearing in mind, last season I suggested I thought Cronin would've picked up some Ireland caps had he stayed at Munster and got blow-back for that…)

I always felt that he was unfairly blamed for the drug mixup. But after that rather wasted year in Biarritz it's all worked out well in the end from his perspective, whatever about Munster's.

Yeah Killer was never on a central contract. He was in most Ireland 23s at the time though.

Tbh I'm thinking ahead to post CC, away to dragons,Connacht & Glasgow, home to Scarlets & Edinburgh

We need him for 4 of 5 realistically

With the position we are in inury wise we need be cute with the games to aim for max points.

Not saying we let Leinster hockey us but clever player minutes need to apply.

It's further down the line & maybe the 6N'S minutes solves that for us anyway

Ryan seems to be what Munster need, if he could be enticed. Do the IRFU ever offer incentives to coaches to go to a provence with a view to them potentially stepping up to the national team later? That sort of career progress pathway would have to be attractive to coaches.

I think most of us would be flattered that we came away tonight with 5 points after the overall performance we put in.

I was just looking at the URC stats page there, really is worth highlighting Tom Farrell's outrageous performance in attack tonight:

    • Point: 15
    • Tries: 3
    • Carries: 8
    • Clean breaks: 4
    • Defenders beaten: 7
    • Metres made: 151

I was thinking, it's hard to recall a better performance in attack by a Munster player in recent years. I think Zebo has had hattricks in his career, nobably away to Northampton which must be at least 10 years ago now at this stage.

Another crazy stat from the game was Gavin Coombes putting in 35 tackles tonight, one was obviously a try saver on Wilson. And I think he had a holdup over our line. Just such an important player for us.

Very impressive performance by Farrell and even with him giving them an easy out by entering a ruck from the side (eas it the only side entry that was penalised) he fully deserved to be MotM

Yeah thought so too. It was cool to see him put together a performance like that, because he was already having a fine season for us so far. I think that midfield of Farrell and Nankivell, with Crowley at 10, there's alot of enterprise and cutting edge there in attack. Crowley was good tonight in attack too.

Yes, he gave a peach of a kick pass to Nash, who passed inside to Haley who recycled it to Farrell for one of his three tries tonight.

I remember thinking half way through the game that I hadn't seen much of Gav with ball in hand which would only mean he's putting in a shift elsewhere. He probably still had a good few carries too. 36 tackles, outrageous

I fear that Nankivell could be out a while after the red card tackle. Fingers crossed it's not too bad.

My thoughts exactly when I saw him hobbling after it, he's missed a few games already this season.

Need Sean o Brien back soon as R Scannell is just not at it....he even looks physically out of shape

Richie Murphy saw nothing wrong with that tackle. Neither did Ben ( who was standing in front of it) until the TMO called his attention to it but later he penalised Farrell for coming in from the side in an effort to protect the ruck.

looks like he was taken off for a hamstring twinge as opposed to his knee. cossie said he'll be rested this week anyway. so 3 weeks until saracens game.

I'd like to give Scannell the benefit of the doubt and say it's just too much weight training.

Absolutely disgrace if his conditioning isn't up to standard.Shouldn't be acceptable. There's a few lads I feel are getting contracts/contract extensions not because they deserve it but because of the financial situation/lack of talent coming through.

Squad update, more injuries from the Ulster & Ulster A games

Alex Nankivell will go for a scan today to determine the extent of the hamstring injury he sustained on Friday in Ulster.

Dave Kilcoyne injured his thigh against Ulster and Scott Buckley injured his calf in action for Munster A against Ulster A at the weekend. They will also go for scans and are unavailable this week.

Dian Bleuler is completing his return to play protocols and his availability will be determined later in the week.

Diarmuid Barron (chest), Peter O’Mahony (calf contusion) and Conor Murray (elbow) are all progressing and their availability will be determined later in the week.

Thaakir Abrahams (shoulder), Craig Casey (knee) and Jean Kleyn (thigh) all underwent surgery last week and have been ruled out for approximately four months.

Continuing to rehab: Liam Coombes (chest), Seán O’Brien (leg), Diarmuid Kilgallen (wrist), Jeremy Loughman (hip), Josh Wycherley (neck), Mark Donnelly (ankle), Patrick Campbell (shoulder), Cian Hurley (knee), Edwin Edogbo (Achilles), Roman Salanoa (knee).

And a Merry Christmas to all 🫣😬

It would be good if Conor Murray could get back this weekend. I like Paddy Patterson but he’s box kicking isn’t a strong part of his game, and Munster haven’t been exiting from restarts well. That and improved discipline, hopefully Munster won’t but under as much pressure goal line defending.
Worried for what may be a Rory Scannell v Jordie Barrett matchup at inside centre on Friday.

I have 2 stand tickets. West Stand for Munster Leinster in Thomond Park on the 27th if anyone is interested. €40 each

Given the injuries to Abrahams and Casey that's relatively good news, both could be back for the URC playoffs which is more than I was expecting.

While I don't disagree our S&C needs an in depth review.....you saw the tackle on him?

You drop 130 kg on anyone's leg at that angle and they're getting injured.
