Aer Credit Cards free return flights...problems

    Hey all,

The main reason I decided to get an aer credit card is because of the 5000 euro free return flights. After spending 5000e the benefit was applied to my accout. However, i have to say, i think its almost a scam.

Im not booking flights over summer months or busy periods as per the terms and conditions and everytime I find a flight to the destination I want to travel, it is greyed out for me to select. Basically, you find a flight that only flies to e.g Greece on a tuesday and thursday and on their website for selecting the flights every tuesday and thursday is greyed out so its not possible to book. This happens for other destinations too. You have to spend ages looking for flights and changing destinations only to find that you cant use the benefit to fly.

It feels like a complete scam to be honest. Im trying to book 11 months in advance too.

Has anyone actually been able to book flights for a weeks sun holiday, and not just a weekend city break?

They did that years ago. It was useless.

I’ve never really had much of a problem redeeming the “free” flights - though I tend to travel off peak

2021: a week in Rhodes in September

2022: a week in Barcelona in March

2023: a week in Majorca in mid June

2024: a week in Malaga in March

2025: due to travel to Tenerife in February

The Majorca flights were from Cork, but all the rest were ex-Dublin. I did have a bit of trouble finding the Tenerife flights for next year as there were quite a few dates greyed out so it was difficult to find a full week - but managed it in the end. I’ve never had that experience before so maybe it’s a new thing??
