Prince of Persia, The Lost Crown is excellent. Got it for only 20 quid physical, could have waited longer, but the bloody excellent disbanded dev team need some support.

Beautiful art, gameplay, super polished and 120 FPS on PS5. If you've only played the demo, well it hardly scratches the surface of what's available. There is a clever story there too, so far.

It's the real deal video game that doesn't pretend to be something else.

An absolutely fantastic game and one of my GOTY. I was slightly underwhelmed by the demo but found the game was so much better. Gameplay is excellent and it's easily one of the best Prince of Persia games. An absolute steal at €20.

I like PoP but it just lacked that crucial special sauce or character for me, at least based on 6-7 hours of play. Very confidently made take on a formula I’ve played many times before. Didn’t help it was in close proximity to Animal Well which felt like a more ambitious and exciting step forward for the genre IMO. Good game still, and must get back to it.

Got offered a switch PoP earlier for €20 and passed it up should still be available I ended up buying Front Mission remake for Switch instead but will try revisit buying PoP tomorrow.

I loved PoP The Lost Crown. A genuine surprise of a game in how deep and well-crafted it was. I did have some slight issues with it, particularly with regards some of the backtracking which could feel like a slog going through some really tough platforming sections, but overall it was a joy to play. Never returned to it for any of the DLC though; very much a muscle-memory game and kinda got enough from the main game that I didn't feel like I needed that much more.

The DLC is rock hard and strips back a rake of skills/perks you pick up relatively early in the game as well as pinning your health back to 3 or 4 bars iirc. I just couldn't gel with it.

It's there a thread from Hitman: World of Assassination? I thought there was but can't find it. Thinking of getting it, never finished Hitman 2 and wanted to get back into, plus the new freelance online mode sounds class. It's currently 28 euro on sale on psn, not sure if it usually goes less than that. Anyone playing it and worth it?

Saw that alright but it ended before WoA came out so thought there was an updated one, sounds Eoin.

Great deal. Gets a huge amount of content for that money. It's a fantastic game

I have played it for hours on end. It's well worth the money.

The freelance model is quite good, not enough to keep me interested for long, but still fun, a nice little roguelite version of hitman.

The Mafia trilogy was the highlight of my year. Picked them up for pennies and can't think of a bigger bang for my buck.

They passed me by when released but the gameplay, the writing, the soundtrack all top tier.

I don't know what to make of this. Rocket league with real people. The fact the Sifu Devs are behind it tells me it's capable of having very polished and addictive gameplay so I'm very eager to try it.

Looks good. Reminds me of Super Sidekicks in 90s arcades. It had great fast gameplay.

Yeah looks fun. Slightly disappointed that at the very least it makes the wait for a potential Sifu 2 longer (if we're getting it at all). But could be a fun game to jump into every now and again, and like you said Sifu felt very polished, fluid and addictive so this could have that same feel.

The fact they didn't call it FIFU is a travesty.

Considering getting my daughter Minecraft for her Switch. I've never played much of it, are the mechanics something a 7 year old would be able to get their head around?

On the Switch version I assume you can disable mobs etc? I think she'd be more interested in the digging and building than the fighting.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 53,788 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

You can play in creative mode which turns mobs off. You might need to help her out at first as Minecraft, well when I played it, is very bad at explaining it's very complex mechanics.

It's a cracking game. The depth of content and replay-ability is enormous. I sunk an insane amount of hours into it when it first released. It's a game where you need to go at levels multiple times to get various outcomes and assassinations to really have fun with it so it wouldn't suit a 'one and done' on levels approach. At €28 its a steal.

The way Hitman 3 was released was a total mess though, I believe it's just been rebranded to WoA?

    Very confusing all round.

    It is fun though!

In fact, I own Hitman 2. Do I need to buy the full 30 euro game?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,648 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

Ah I don't think that's fair to say it was a mess - it was quite the opposite. It was released in 2021 and was 'Hitman 3' for more than two years before they went back and integrated the back catalogue (Hitman 1-3) into one package called Hitman World Of Assassination. But that integration meant that people who had bought Hitman 3 at that stage were given Hitman 1 and 2 for free. If anything, it was a brilliant and generous move.

I do believe that if you haven't bought Hitman 3 or Hitman WoA (in its current guise), you need to purchase Hitman WoA which will give you all three games and the masses of extra content.

The release of all of the Hitman games was an unholy mess until they finally unified it. It was incredibly confusing going onto Steam or another storefront and trying to figure out what you did / didn’t own or what you were going to buy as there were so many variations.

Unifying it all into one package was smart, but for a few years before that I’d have called it the most unnecessarily confusing and messy selling strategy of any game out there, outside of the free to play space.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,648 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

I must have missed something. Was it not just Hitman 1, Hitman 2 and Hitman 3? And then they unified them all.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 30,869 CMod ✭✭✭✭johnny_ultimate

Nah there were weird upgrade paths, endless DLC configurations, and strange entitlements depending on what you owned.

Did they really remove McGregor from the game?

Ah OK, clearly easier on the console than on pc.

Interesting article here on the work trying to resurrect FFVII:Before Crisis, the Compilation title that was released on phone in Japan. The game had some very interesting mechanics and technically it did some really cool things but while I wouldn't say it'd be the most fun in the world to play, I am absolutely enthralled by the efforts by the community trying to find a way to make it playable today. This sort of game preservation effort is incredibly inspiring to see and while I think it's gonna be a ridiculously hard path to walk, I'll have to start following this, just for the motivation.
