    https://m.independent.ie/irish-news/israel-to-close-its-embassy-in-dublin-due-to-extreme-anti-israel-policy-of-irish-government/a753981536.html

“Don’t let the door hit ya on the way out, I don’t want ass prints on my new door”

due to the governments “anti Israel policies” (lmao) Israel have decided their closing their embassy in Dublin and reportedly will be looking to direct resources to Moldova and other countries which are not holding them to account.

And that’s what this is all about honestly, Ireland is not letting them off the hook and they’re running with tails between their legs. Bye so.

Mod warning 19/12/24: Given some of the comments in this thread tonight I might remind some to read the forum charter regarding hate speech. Take a step back and think before you post because breaches of this manner are being dealt with via way of lengthy forum bans. Two posters went way beyond the pale of civil discussion and went straight into ridiculous generalisations that serve no purpose other than spreading hate.

This thread is now basically becoming a carbon copy of the other thread on the Israel conflict so can we stick to the topic of the embassy being closed or this one will be locked and posters will be directed to discuss all matters in the other thread.

That sounds like sour grapes. Israel is running with its tails between its leags from… Ireland??

    Sounds unlikely.

As I predicted a year ago, Ireland will pay a heavy economic price for its virtue signalling tinted with anti semitism.

I wish that weren't so, but it is, and it's entirely self inflicted.

If only our government show the same commitment to resolving our domestic issues. The impact on FDi as a result will unfold over time.

I suspect that, as with South Africa, it's more of a distraction technique by the government. Keeps their own citizens from looking too hard at how their government is actually governing, or not. Because running the country is hard work. In contrast, lecturing other countries about what they should do seems to be deeply pleasurable.

Ireland always does love a nice bit of virtue-signalling though. Not many other countries actively virtue signal in their constitution.

Why or how would we pay a heavy economic price?

Hopefully the media here stop platforming that lunatic when she ceases to have the Ambassador title. She hasn't even been in residence for months.

Its an anti genocide policy the Israelis don't like.

I think Israel will suffer more from this than Ireland.

    Australian embassy next?

Australia’s once-friendly relationship with Israel has spiralled from simmering tension into outright hostility after a remarkably caustic intervention into Australian domestic politics by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

In a scathing social media post, Netanyahu went significantly further than Israel’s top diplomat in Australia or any of the nation’s leading pro-Israel organisations by accusing the government of taking an “extreme anti-Israeli position”. He also directly linked Friday’s arson attack on a Melbourne synagogue to Australia’s “scandalous” voting record at the United Nations and the decision to decline a visa to a former Israeli cabinet minister.

Does 'virtue signalling' mean not turning a blind eye now? It's hard to keep up

ah no you’re right too, when I think about it actually there’s nothing wrong with Israel blowing kids and women to bits for no real reason at all.

Let them at it I say, big fecking racists in government sure they let the Russians bomb Ukraine without a word said

    Oh wait

looking to direct resources to Moldova

Moldova, the soon to be constituent of the newly formed Soviet Union.

Two birds with one stone as it were.

What are these extreme anti Israel policies ? … from my perspective Hamas had such a policy.

Holding a government accountable for accusations of genocide is the correct way. Israel crying foul is what we all expected

And why would they give the slightest care in the world to the status of diplomatic relations between Ireland and Israel anyway.

Ireland is the largest export destination in EU for Israel

Mostly due to Intel who are a major employer here

they will be busy for a while closing more of their embassies as more Countries call them out on the genocide in Gaza

Thr animosity has been building for a long time, bad blood between Ireland & Israel for decades and this is the culmination. Question is, will the Irish embassy in Israel (be forced) to close ?

    And?

If that meant anything it would mean Israel are being a bit silly but it doesn't actually mean anything because our trade relationship is completely and utterly unchanged and that export flow has nothing to do with the government of Israel. Why would Intel give a ****?

it’s disappointing. But Israel really is not on the right side of this debate. Strange really that Ireland who has no history on violence against Jews is targeted in such a way.

And watch support for Palestinians evaporate if one of the largest employers in Dublin is pushed over the edge

And Intel is not in a great place as a company and would have been bankrupt by now if it wasn’t for Biden throwing billions at them

Pushed over the edge of what?

This decision is not going to impact Intel even to the point of 1€. It is utterly meaningless to them. What on earth difference do people think it would make?

The decision yesterday by Government to recognise the State of Palestine, which will formally take effect on 28 May, is a historic moment for Ireland.

It is a clear and immutable statement of our deeply-held belief that there can be no peace in the Middle East until the Israeli and Palestinian peoples alike enjoy the same rights to self-determination, statehood, peace, security and dignity.

    blah blah blah

Ireland: We are neutral, which is why our military is underfunded to the point there are landlocked countries with more effective navies.

Also Ireland: we recognise the enemy of a diplomatic and economic ally. Doing so has zero impact on the situation in Gaza but does manage to piss off Israel.

    Great Job Ireland! Well played

Obviously that last part is sarcastic.

I don't know what giants like Intel are thinking but I work for a medium-sized American firm here that has very strong ties to Israel. Senior management in the US are very concerned by the stance that some sections of the Irish population have taken in relation to Israel. I'm concerned the senior management might decide to close the operation here at this stage. I don't fancy re-locating at this stage in my life!

I must have missed it, where did Ireland recognize Hamas? Or are you deliberately conflating Hamas with the people living in Gaza to try and win the argument? Because that seems to be the same answer to the question, why is Israel allowed to discriminately target civilians? Because they are all Hamas.

Will the embassy now be used to accommodate asylum seekers? Palestinian included.
