Has to be a mistake? Are they sending it in a container by itself??

    Tell them you'll collect it.

Lexus Dealers are very challenging to deal with, When I enquired about a straight cash price from one they told me they were not in the business of discounting their cars and before any would talk to me they asked where I lived, I had access to addresses near them and that made them happy, I felt triaged.

New Dealers now in Waterford and Letterkenny adds a Little competition in what is really a cartel in our country, try them as that’s simply an attempt at extortion, buy something else ?

    No mistake.

    Lexus: "Disclaimer

† Includes delivery and related charges of €1,100. (Retailer delivery and related charges may vary). "

Cork is €2k but offered a joke of a trade-in price.

The cost of living on an island!

    UK delivery charge is £700.

Is there someone with a gun to your head forcing you to buy a Lexus?

evidence of a cartel, small market, they know each other very well, it’s not easy to buy a Lexus and that is from direct experience.

Tom murphy in waterford new dealer likely to be keen to deal or letterkenny ?

A private business selling an item for the price they advertise for is not a cartel.

You seem to be missing the point - whether I buy it or not is irrelevant. Another boardie fycking idiot!

But they are not selling it for the price they advertise it! If the two Dublin dealers are charging the same rate: = cartel!

Try educating me. What's the point that I am missing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 481 ✭✭pale rider

Correct. Except that is not what they are doing.

Give them a call for the giggles, suggest Galway first and Cork second with your imaginary good trade in, be honest about where you live.

Do you know why exactly they asked where you are from? A lot of the time its just to figure out how you found them, for marketing purposes I think

The place is riddled with them. They breed like rabbits.

The only sensible answer to that is to establish if I lived within their ‘ patch ‘, I had to give addresses local enough to three dealers in order to get a quote, I was triaged.

One of them would only quote me if I traded in my car with them at a stupid price.

IMO these cars would sell more if the sales process were easier and there was competition, another two dealers is a step in the right direction.

Why would you want to give your business to people such as these especially at that price point in the market when there is the world of great competing product out there to be purchased.

I was quoted a 2k delivery charge on a new Lexus, which I questioned and was told it included the delivery and a service pack. They were keen to add a paint protection and “essential” pack which I think was a boot liner and mud flaps and would have brought it probably to 3k.

got offered the exact same figure for my car from two Lexus dealers at opposite end of the country for demo cars they had for sale which I substantially improved on with a bit of haggling on one I pursued.

I get the impression they have limited supply of cars and aren’t under massive pressure to make numbers unlike other dealers.

That said I saw an article that Lexus had its best year in Ireland with over 1000 sales and with the expansion of the dealership network they may be more amenable to deal?

They must have a car people want to buy, hasn’t happened in a long time. Last relative hit they had was the IS220d nearly 20 years ago. The UK import market killed then in the 2010s, so they’ve only really been a glorified servicing network in Ireland in recent years. They’ll be wanting to make money if there’s a desirable model out.

The IS220d was probably the worst Lexus ever.

I don't think Lexus have much interest in the Irish market, it's too small. The UK is their biggest RHD market in Europe and even there they don't sell near the same numbers the big 3 German marques sell. I'd say Ireland probably gets a small allocation of models destined for the UK. I think in general looking at their range on offer in Europe, they are only really interested in the US market.

The UK is small too. Was in Latvia, Riga x2 large standalone dealerships in one city thats not that large

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 527 ✭✭✭dickdasr1234

Why would anybody want to give busines to people such as these?

Your comments suggest that I am a bit soft in the head and haven't done the research one might expect of someone laying out €40k+.

If you can find a car comparable to the LBX in terms of reliability, warranty, frugality and comfort, please let me know!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,584 ✭✭✭goochy

It's a great car . Think lack of space in rear is only flaw . Surely they aren't charging same delivery charge on an Aygo and that comes same way ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 527 ✭✭✭dickdasr1234

No, Toyota is somewhere around the €1k mark. Lexus Europe set the charge at €1100 with a disclaimer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 852 ✭✭✭gossamerfabric

Grand. you put your money down, you take your chances but Lexus is struggling as a Marque in Europe and China.

What if you tell them about the other dealer who is charging 2k? Maybe they’ll reduce their price. I would try this, and if it doesn’t work, I would walk away.
