Crowley's placekicking range is a limiting factor though. He has kicked touchline conversions short and was short tonight from 40m. The majority of pro placekickers would have a 51m kick in their locker on a dry, still night.

to be fair, he just scuffed that penalty, hes usually good up to about 48m which isnt massive but its pretty acceptable - o gara's range was about that in general

Jesus Zebo must be still on the Munster Payroll with the over the top positivity on Premier Sports

That's castres first HC win in 5 years apparently.

Worst game of rugby i've seen this year. And i watched Dragons beat Zebre back in March.

Castres are an historical disgrace to the Heineken Cup / Investec Champs Cup, was really hoping Munster would put a score on them so they don't waste a spot in the knockouts. If ever there was a game neither side should have won, this was it.

Yeah that’s about right. I remember O’Gara kicking a winning penalty against Leicester in Welford road from the halfway line on a bad day. Think that was late 2006 or about then.

From tonight so the following got knocks and will be struggling - Casey, Pom, blueler, abrahams, gleeson and I think barron was down at the end too.

Crowley was poor today. Missed kicks and forward passes galore. I felt the entire backline stood far too flat and whilst that's the job of the 10 to organise better, I wonder what's going on in training. That's an issue that should be solved by the coaches midweek really.

Welford road is quite a bit shorter then most other grounds though.

So you have one job to do and that is “ kick ball OFF the pitch “ . Nobody asking you to drop a goal from forty meters, put a pass on a sixpence or nail a conversion from the touchdown. Just kick the bluudy ball off the park and you cannot do that.

That was worse than the loss. Casey got injured by the pitch. That could be season ending.

    Crowley actually plays.

    And is able to tackle.

    Don't be daft

Ya. Season defining game for all the wrong reasons. Casey one was the worst. Anything less than season ended would be good news. Just the way he dropped on his own.

Really wasteful by Crowley!! All he needed was a decent field position. Played very badly tonight. Not only is his Ireland's position in jeopardy but also for Munster. A decent coach is urgently needed and a proper one!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,567 ✭✭✭niallm77

Blueler probably won't be available next week or two. The way he folded back when he was on his knees is not good.

Casey looks a season ender. Anything less then that is a good result.

why was Coombes not playing. Surely this week was to build and have best possible team on the pitch to get a win.

things is there’s a massive drop off to burns and butler …..Crowley is feeling the pressure and expectation and it’s showing ….really hope he bounces back

There’s massive issues with the team and behind the scenes …rowntree leaving iso quick has left many unanswered questions for me

Some of the stuff here is over the top

People need to remember where we are coming from & what has gone on jn the club.

Yes we were v poor, yes our 10 had a bad game, that happens at times & needs to be put into context.

Costello was right post match, it's a stand alone competition.

back to the bread & butter nxt week

I'm not happy at all with the performance but 6weeks agi if you offered me 6pts from the opening 2 games I'd grab it & run

His Munster position is in jeopardy to who? Let's be reasonable here…

A dog of a game. Neither side deserved to win.

I'm not a Munster fan and I don't share the hype that Crowley is the long term heir apparent to the Irish jersey. But on the other hand I don't think he's a failure as some here are suggesting. He's a good 10 who has potential to be a great 10. I don't think the Irish jersey is going to be owned by one guy for a while yet.

Burns was dropped for a 6 2. Munster coaches would rather no ten then burns. If joey or Ben healy were still around jack would have been hooked. The squad is getting weaker year on year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,567 ✭✭✭niallm77

Crowley had a shocker. Not because of any perceived pressure but because thats where he is at. He is a good player but no more then that currently. And he had a poor game tonight.

Zebo talking nonsense afterwards, Bigging up Castres, looking at positives etc. Afraid to call a spade a spade. Don't see the point of bringing him on if he isn't going to offer any sort of insight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,022 ✭✭✭✭phog

Munster played like Ireland in the recent game v the ABs and like Ireland should have won but we were lucky to get the LBP.

Scrum penalty, error, scrum penalty, error and repeat. Castres only made territory by getting kicks to touch from penalties.

Knocking on the ball from the restart after we went ahead was criminal.

Watching that last kick, the ball was inch perfect until the Castres player kept it in play, if he's your player you're praising him. Awful way for the game to end for Crowley & Munster but it would have been a robbery for us to win it.

The worst part of tonight is the injuries, especially to Casey, he's been having a great run of games though Patterson really kept Munster motoring when he came on.

Crowley had a poor game, but he's a significantly better 10 than either Burns or Scannell so his position in Munster isn't in question and it is silly to suggest otherwise.

His position for Ireland is less clear but that won't be decided tonight. All players have poor games at times and he is in a team that is not performing either. The sooner they bring in a permanent head coach the better.

pretty spot on tbh, was fantastic play to keep it in rather than a terrible kick from crowley, id be more annoyed at the call to not get scannell to go for points rather than anything crowley did there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,022 ✭✭✭✭phog

The kick at goal was probably too long and any miss would have meant game over, for me it was either tap & go and hope for a DG or kick to touch for a lineout.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,757 ✭✭✭50HX

Tony butler has played more than Ben Healy has this season

That will tell you where Ben Healy is at right now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,026 ✭✭✭clsmooth

The Crowley pile on is unfair. He didn’t play great but not too many players covered themselves in glory out there. I always feel these are the types of games where younger players learn a lot. Fingers crossed for Casey. Very cruel if he’s out for a significant amount of time, he’s been in superb form.

too long for crowley but rory scannell has (or at least had) the range for that, hindsight is 20-20 obviously but i didnt think munster were going to get a better position that were they were
