Microgeneration Rates

Somewhat unrelated: Does this mean it voids our contract with Electric Ireland by them doing this? (I just got the email as well.)

I rang Electic Ireland and their call center staff was unaware this email went out and they are being inundated with calls so I had to forward them the email they had sent me. (sigh.)

I'm with Flogas. Their FIT rate of 20c incl. VAT would need to reduce significantly to justify a battery.

Thankfully as seen with EI the import rates are going down as well ergo you may end up in a similar place financially as you are in now.

Energia cutting FIT from 24c to 20c from 13th January. 😕

This is something which I find difficult to gauge, generally as more houses install solar then the FIT should drop as there's more supply

However, it's also probably true that every kWh the suppliers buy from solar is resold at a profit to someone else

On the other hand, FIT rates are still generally higher than market rates. The price at midday today was 16c/kWh, on June 21st it was 8c

My guess is that it's being used as a selling point for potential customers and suppliers are probably aware that customers with solar are more interested in rates and more likely to switch for a good deal

So each company probably has some margin between import and export rates that they're applying for now, but in the long term if more solar comes online then it'll likely result in lower FIT rates as a proportion of import

is there any clear cut provider I should switch to? Dual fuel, currently with SSE but the online price comparison sites don’t factor in feed in rates
