Just as well you didn't so, I've seen much worse be restored than that.

I sold that shell to someone back at the start of the year as my own wasn't as bad as I initially thought. Don't think it was him, the front bumper was in the car when I sold it.

He's very good. That's something I'd love to be able to do.

I wouldn't however have much faith in the paint job. He always does it in an open garage which has dust and other sh!te floating around.

when you go to a local independent mechanic to get work done on you car

    • what is the vat rate for labour
    • what is the vat rate for parts

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 4,621 Mod ✭✭✭✭TherapyBoy

13.5% for labour, 23% for parts

In my experience, if the labour charge is higher than the parts charge then you pay 13.5% on the entire invoice price. And if the parts charge is higher than the labour charge then you pay 23% on the entire invoice.

I remember a mechanic telling me thats how Revenue want it done also

Had the experience of driving a Renault Astrale there recently.

What a very odd experience. Feels like politing a slow spaceship. It has a setting to automatically tailgate people. I couldn't figure out how the touchscreen worked.

Is this how oulfarts feel trying to figure out an iPhone?

The owner is twice my age and has no trouble with it.

I'd be very cautious of that 1.2 litre engine as it's a very soft engine. They have a wet belt setup that's know to fail prematurely. A ticking timebomb imo.

Quite old post but the guidelines or rules are if it's 2/3 of the invoice rated at 23% or 13.5%, then charge that rate on the entire invoice. If it's less than 2/3 of either, split the vat rates proportionally.

I don't think it's adhered to stringently though, in any industry.

Yeah so I was on the right track anyway. I don’t think it’s adhered to much either. Its like buying second hand tyres, sometimes I am given a VAT invoice as if they are new tyres, whereas technically I should be given an invoice showing no VAT and clearly stating that VAT cannot be claimed

I handled a random revenue audit in 2014 on behalf of my employer, we provide a mix of labour and materials to our customers and charge everything at 13.5%, we probably did more labour than sale of materials but the auditor said she didn't really care once we were charging and paying over the VAT.

I was a bit worried about that before the audit but seems to be fine. Don't think it's on the radar even today.

They got us on some petty cash stuff though, I suppose they have to find something! The penalty wouldn't have even covered the auditors time there.

Just renewed my drivers licence. It's great they brought out this online way. Only took a couple of minutes. My last renewal I had to go to one of the NDLS places.

Oh great, didn't know that. Also went to NDLS for last one. Think I'm due a renewal next year

Just a heads up. You need a MyGov account to apply online to renew your licence. So worth your while setting that up now if you do not have an account so you will be all set for renewal next year.

anyone ever have any dealings with Tradeup Autos in Sligo?

Is your licence just for cars, or for HGV as well?

    Mouse / Rat problems ..

Friend of mine with a Hilux, had massive damage done to the wiring in the car by rodents. Other day, after my car had been idle for several days, I upped the bonnet to check a few things, and there on the plastics covering the engine, and on the wiring near the bonnet hinge on the valance, I found mouse droppings, not a lot, but definitely mouse droppings (I assume mouse, because they were only small droppings) Anyone know of a deterrence for these pests? I've checked it daily now for the last 10 days or so, and no more droppings were found.

Didn't think I'd watch all of this but i did. Was only going to give it 5 mins. Great look at cars long since gone off the road.

I thought it was a parody at first but it's a documentary! If you don't want to watch the full thing skip to the young lad talking about how he got his company Fiesta XR2. The absolute BS he comes out with is something to behold! And the poor effer at the end with a Maestro.

This is water. Inspiring speech by David Foster Wallace https://youtu.be/DCbGM4mqEVw?si=GS5uDvegp6Er1EOG

Jesus ****. The English will turn anything into a class structure.

I will admit to having business insurance on my RX8. As in, carry tools in it, go to jobsites and otherwise get **** done. That's led to some odd interactions, to say the least.

Anyway, I got thething through the NCT this year for the price of a pair of license plate bulbs and a tyre rotation. Compared to the 7 grand I spend last year that seems like a bargain.
