SIRO installation on new build (airtight)

Hi there,

Due to get SIRO to come out for Fibre installation in a new build. Don't want any damage to the airtight layer as part of the process but wondering how it could be done without piercing it? Are there existing conduits that can typically be used for example?

Also interested…Sky just asked the missus at home if they could drill and she said yes. We've 10 year old build with air pump so imagine air tightness needs to not be compromised…hoping others have same setup.

Your 'air tight' house has massive 100mm holes for air intake on nearly all the rooms and you are concerned about a ~5mm hole to pass a fiber cable that is likely to be sealed off with silicone afterwards.

Don't you understand how airtight works. You a comparing HVAC vents and airtightness.

OP buy the appropriate sealing tape with butyl or whatever and ensure to sealing the newly entered cable to the existing membrane.

It may mean carefully cutting the plasterboard to access the piercing

Modern air-tight homes do not have holes for ventilation. All ventilation is ducted through the MHRV system. Householders and telcos are right to be concerned about puncturing the seal on an air-tight home. Builders and architects should anticipate this requirement when they are building and retrofitting homes, and they should always install appropriate ducting with airtight seals, so as to avoid the need to tamper with the airtightness afterwards. It would be best to go back to your builder and ask them for a solution.

The should be built with appropriate ducting to avoid the crude drilling into walls for simple cables..

But it's Ireland and build technology is light years behind most countries

Mine is a modern one (2021) and it has those holes. I wish it had an MHRV system
