    Hi all.

My son has an Xbox a few years now. He has mentioned it gone slow and the mic isn't working.

Is it possible to upgrade an Xbox to knock a few more years out of it.

I imagine that your son is looking for the newer model Xbox and the one he is using is an older out of date model.

You can't upgrade an Xbox like you would a PC. You can get the next model up.

The model numbers on the Xbox are confusing but if he has a Xbox one, Xbox one S or an Xbox one X then he is on an obsolete system. Unless he is still on a Xbox 360 and then it's severely out of date.

He is probably looking for an Xbox series console. The two models there are the Xbox Series S and Series X. The Series X is the more powerful version and also the one you should probably think about going for. The Series S will play all the same games but is severely hampered by being underpowered and is a lot slower.

As for the microphone, best to get a Bluetooth headset with a mic (has to be Bluetooth) if you get a new console.

The Xbox he has is the S model. He is going to take it to CeX shop. He is taking the console, controllers, battery pack and 20 games. What ball park should they offer? Would he get 150 euros.

Thanks. Saying 76euros cash for the console. That's seems very low.

If it's a one S then it's a 10 year old console, quite out of date.

If it's this series S?. Then they offer €126 to trade in. A bit more if you get a voucher. If it's the Xbox one S then much less.

But if he is upgrading to Xbox again he might want to hold onto some of the games as they will still work on the latest consoles.

As mentioned above, the naming conventions for XBOX are needlessly confusing:

If he has the machine about 6-8 years then it is probably the Xbox One S (or Xbox S) (Black or white with half covered in sort of a grid)

    Xbox ONE S

Then they sent from the Xbox One to Xbox Series…. uh series. The Xbox Series S or Xbox Series X (Their current top tier)

Xbox SERIES S. Similar size. Black or white with large circular section for air:

As mentioned. These are not upgradable and the ONE S is last generation with pretty much no new games coming out for it. The Series S and Series X are both current generation with the X being the much more powerful of the two. However current games work on both devices (Series S and Series X). Albeit, faster/better in theory on the Series X.

You will not set much trade in for the One S
