I wasn't suggesting that everyone, myself included, are ready to jump ship and give up our SkyQ or SKY+HD boxes, lol.
I was speaking more to the idear of a SKY+ stream box and the unlikely scenario of it becoming a thing for a variety of reasons.

Sent in by a family member. Anybody know what "Please wait for more to download" is about?

Is that Sky Q or Stream? The “waiting for more to download” only makes sense on Sky Q.

When my contract is up I’m sending back my Sky stream as I can’t record or catch up BBC.Getting a freesat box.

There’s something wrong with this topic. Page 12 won’t open.

@AndrewJRenko I've used a work around to allow the thread to render to delete your post. The formatting of it was breaking the thread. If you repost it, just paste the pure plain text only.

Apologies, who knew that pasting from an email could be so destructive.

Hi all, can anyone tell me if I should be able to watch Premier Sports on Sky Go if I subscribe to Sports Extra? I can watch it fine on the puck and the channels show up in my Sky Go, but if I try to watch it on Sky Go I get a message about needing to upgrade my subscription. TNT Sports works fine on Sky Go.

For my 2 cents worth I recently got Sky Stream and am very happy with it in general. For me it was an upgrade from Saorview and flaky weather-dependent Freesat, on separate built-in TV decoders that I was constantly having to retune the channels on, and Now TV for live sports, movies and box sets. I love having these in one interface and the “recording” is actually an upgrade for me since I couldn’t record at all before (I could have rigged up a hard drive to the TV to record Saorview and Freesat but I really wasn’t bothered).

You should be able to watch it on Sky Go.

Cheers I’ll ring them. Just wanted to check I wasn’t missing something before I spent ages on the phone.

For the benefit of anyone else reading this, I rang Sky apparently it’s a known issue at the moment with Premier Sports on Sky Go. They took my details. I’ll give them a little while and then start looking for a discount if it isn’t fixed.

Interesting. No go for me. I’ll see what pans out in the next few days. Thanks.

Last year i got 1GB fibre broadband installed into the house by Virgin Media. I have one of them ONT boxes on the wall inside my house. Does anyone know can i switch to Sky stream and use the same ONT box/fibre Cable? Does it require another box to be installed by Sky? or can i just plug in the Sky router into the existing fibre box?

Sky Stream will work on any broadband connection. I use it on Virgin Broadband and very rarely would have an issue. Sky will send out a small box for Sky Stream and not a router unless you are also asking about moving to their broadband service.

Sorry yeah, i meant moving to Sky broadband also, can i just get the Sky router and plug it into my existing ONT box.

Sky's modem can be plugged into the ONT you already have. Virgin's SIRO connection is compatible with other SIRO providers of which Sky is. I did the reverse swop no problem and have since jumped to Vodafone and all without any issue.

Thanks, it’s working for me now. Guess they sorted whatever the isssue was.

Has anybody had issues with sky stream (or indeed, glass) not working when Storm Eowyn knocked the broadband out. Arguably one of the reasons your TV and broadband provider should be as separate as possible

Am I right in my understanding that you can’t “record” on the sky stream? My elderly parents are paying €178 per month for virgin TV, 500mb broadband and Sky Sports +Extra and want to try and get the costs down. They never watch anything live, everything is recorded. Both love the sports and record matches they want to watch and then watch them after dinner. Same goes with the news and a few series that they like (Strictly Come Dancing, Bake off etc).

They live in south Dublin and no other provider can match Virgin in terms of internet speed, so they’re kinda stuck there, but the Sky Sports package with Virgin is €79 per month so may make more sense for them to get the TV elsewhere. Sky seem to have good offers but if they can’t record anything on the stream it’s a no-go.

Yes you can't record with Sky stream.

I’ve had Sky stream for about 6 months.
    The good:

    • no dish needed
    • Remote has nice voice feature
    • Reasonable selection of channels with base package
    • Can add new packages online

    The bad:

    • Recording is not supported as it streams
    • Add a stream to a playlist in theory allows you to watch programs you missed. But it is very unreliable, can’t skip ads unless you pay extra

    The Ugly:

    • the UI for channel list and searching etc is very frustrating
    • many software bugs in the playback and pausing of streams .
      - the box needs a reset every two /three days

over all, it’s just about liveable with

It's odd. If I have something added to the playlist from Channel 4, sometimes it will redirect to the Channel 4 player while other times it's a recording of Channel 4 with the ads and Channel 4 DOG included.

Can I ask, if you set a programme in advance to "record/add to playlist ", and assuming it does it, when you go to play back that programme, let's say it's from Virgin Play, does it immediately start playing the programme for you, albeit with adverts during the show or does it just send you into the Virgin Play App and you have to find the programme yourself and watch all the pre play adverts that you must watch before the programme even starts ?

Does anyone know how much storage comes with the Virgin Media TV 'Cloud storage'? It doesn't seem to mention on their website at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,849 ✭✭✭Delta2113

    I think it's 500 hours.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,697 ✭✭✭✭AndrewJRenko

I don't see any number listed. I've recorded maybe ten series, and I'm showing at 11% of capacity, so it's unlikely to be a problem. But you might be better on the VM Play box thread.

Sky Stream is better than the VM Play box in terms of the interface. There's no 'record' facility, but when you do add something to your playlist, and then click into the episode, it does pop up immediately and starts playing.

If you have the 'skip ads' option (which was free to new customers for the first year) then you can skip right to the start.
