Most people use the one linked above, with passing L and N through it.

They have many versions of the same meters it seems, needs to be a modbus one.

Looking at the Acrel on the Solis this is how it is wired up so should be a straight swap.

Do you mean the 230 I linked above?

I think this is the correct 120 version but Im not certain so would likely go with the 230 physical meter.

Yes amazon one is what I use as well and a few folk here too I believe.

Mine arrived today around lunchtime, I took it out for a quick inspection seems 100% build quality and the feel is impressive its almost shameful this will be hidden in the attic! No bad delivery time either I ordered late Friday night and it arrived lunchtime today!

Great find by the way - mine worked out about €700 cheaper with the German seller vs next best I could find

Nice I tried a few sellers on Alibaba and couldn't better it, I was a little cautious but their feedback is great plus had the security of using ebay so there was nothing to loose!

I'll be terribly honest, was spooked by the some of the (albeit very few) bad reviews from that ebay seller so was going to wait to see how each of you fared. On seeing one of you getting the goods and others getting tracking #s, just pulled the trigger myself on an 8K Deye with 5th-10th Dec delivery. Lets see how it goes!

I hooked the Inverter up to have a play around with it and it looks good, ESB Networks Ireland is available in the grid setup and I've gotten it online with the logger and into home assistant with Raspberry PI and RS485 dongle so just need to get all the Christmas stuff out of the attic next to clear the way to install it!

    Very straightforward setup?

Yeah it was all handy enough, the pin out from the BMS port is in the manual and you can split out the RS485 from the CAN for the battery. I'll probably make up a lead and terminate both on 2xRJ45 sockets external to the inverter when installing permanently.

Looking back through the pages of this thread, it appears a few have had issues with noise, especially the 8K version, which is not what I want to hear (so to speak). Some saying a high pitch coil whine type sound. What kind of decibels are we talking here? Sound of a noisy bee or sound of a hand drill? Will likely be storing it in the shed anyway but still would rather not have a buzzing noise come from the shed.

Also, how does the inverter ramp up voltage from the battery without a transformer? Seems like witchcraft!

The noise under load is fan noise it's got beefy industrial fans in it. When outside I can hear it, close the back door I don't.

I have heard some coil whine, but it's really high pitched but not loud. There is a low noise mode that is supposed to reduce it but I didn't hear any different.

Depending on how good your hearing is you might not hear it at all.

Yeah it's one of my reasons for moving the new inverter to my shed. I think noise is more from the fans and the electrical is not an issue. Maybe some younger people with very sensitive ears are the ones affected by the electrical noise. I think in the shed you would be totally fine though...

Looks like ours has landed in the country, 5 days from order.

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators Posts: 7,140 Mod ✭✭✭✭graememk

Full teardown, There is tranformers in it, but a lot of it done with mosfets buck/boost converters.

Very interesting stuff. To be honest, for 10 months of the year in Ireland, those giant heatsinks look like they would do the job without the aid of the fans. Probably should be fine for noise then, could put it on the back wall of the shed with a bit of an awning to keep the elements off it.

The 8k fans will come on when it's under a high load.

The 5.5 Ecco is loud too under load, they're not a quiet inverter. My sister has a Qcell inverter and you wouldn't even know it's there.

I assume there's a similar level of noise when charging the battery?

Mine just arrived, a week ahead of expected delivery

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,885 ✭✭✭tnegun

Is anyone using the gen port for a second inverter? I have a small 3kw string inverter and could free up some space in the trunking and at the CU for the 10mm required by bringing that feed to the Deye instead. It looks straightforward enough to setup I'm just not sure what config options I have. I've watched all their videos and done some searching but am still not sure 100% how it will work.

Mine arrived too, exactly one week since I ordered. Fingers crossed not a scam!

I'd say theres a grands worth of raw material in it anyway. Weighs a tonne!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,691 ✭✭✭THE ALM

Got ours yesterday as well, a substantial lump of a thing.

Have a bit of work to do before I'll get a chance to get it installed so probably looking at the new year.

As I will have to split the strings I'll need to get and fit a new fireman's switch as well.

Not the most intuitive of instructions for the setup so if anybody has any pointers that would be great.

    Thanks.

DPD just dropped off my 16x Grade B Envision 305Ah cells after 1 week since ordering from NKON. It's all coming in too quick, can't keep up at all. All that's needed now is time, a lot of reading, bit of DIY and an electrician's blessing (or prayers) to get this beast of an inverter up and running.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,756 ✭✭✭Markus Antonius

Just looking through the manual. The wiring looks reasonably straight forward and could probably do a lot of it myself. How much of it do people generally do themselves or does it depend on how much the electrician is willing to allow? Probably best to discuss it with the electrician first. Don't want to buy in all the wiring/fuses/safety switches only to have the electrician refuse to accept it.

If you are planning to use the EPS output, don't forget the Earth Neutral bond, for powering devices if the grid goes down.

It just needs to connect when the grid goes down

That's a good shout, it did mention doing this for off-grid state but didn't mention it as needed for backup power (which is effectively the same I guess). Will have to get a relay.

Just one question relating to the CT clamp. I hope to connect the inverter to a fusebox in the shed which branches off of the main fusebox in the house (15-20m away) the wire is >6mm^2 so hoping it should cope. The one pain would be having to splice the CT clamp to a CAT6 and run it back through the underground pipe. From looking online, the primary use for the CT clamp appears to be for ensuring zero export in cases where this is compulsory for whatever reason. However, I want to prioritize for selling back to the grid so is the clamp absolutely necessary? Afraid the software would say no
