Toyota Relax Warranty - Expensive Service? (Spark Plugs)

    Hi guys,

Do you think Toyota Relax warranty worth it? Each time you service in a dealership, you renew your warranty up to 185000km or 10 years.

I few months ago I had one of my cars serviced at dealership… Just gave what it needed, oil, filters, fluids and scans (they really just plug the scanner, I know…)… 200 euros, that's fine.

However, for the next service, I'll need to change the spark plugs, two brake pads, and two brake discs. The spark plugs alone cost 300 euros. I am pretty sure the breaks need the service and the Spark Plugs should be changed each 60000 miles and the car will have 60000 miles next service. I am pretty sure they would be fine for a few years, as they are iridium spark plugs and are in great condition. This is just dealership recommendation/manual. But 300 euros seems to be a bit overpriced for the service. Is this price correct?

I know the original spark plugs (Denso FC16HR-CY9) are quite expensive compared to other brands (the good ones) - like Bosch, but they should only cost around 100 euros. I'm not a mechanic, but I could replace them in 20 minutes, so why 300 euros? The labor shouldn't be that high as it's a very simple task.

So my question is, do you think it's worth servicing there to keep the Toyota Relax Warranty, or should I walk away and have my local mechanic service it instead? Is this warranty really worth it?

Iridium spark plugs can be stupidly expensive, I think I paid €240 for 4 Bosch W5DP0 iridium plugs twenty odd years ago

That's crazy. I've bought NGK iridium plugs for motorcycles at €15 each

OP you didn't say how old the car is, that has a big effect on whether main dealer servicing is worth it or not.

Iridium plugs should be good for way more than 60k miles imo.

Could you ask the service manager to just inspect and refit the plugs? They should still be in great condition, not showing appreciable wear.

the trade of for the Toyota Relax Warranty is the cost of the service. Only you know if it’s worth it.

A petrol Toyota isn’t going to have any major issues during that age or mileage and Toyota know this. Otherwise they wouldn’t sell a relax warranty. You might get issues with a diesel but they are usually DPF EGR etc which won’t be covered under warranty

I would get your local mechanic to do the brakes, discs and plugs using OEM parts and just keep the annual dealer service to the basics, keep your warranty intact and control the costs

You can't keep your warranty intact this way. The Toyota relax warranty is like an extension of the normal warranty but you must service the car every year at Toyota to avail of it.

As I said visit the main dealer ( in this case Toyota ) once a year for the basics, you don’t agree, can you quote the terms and conditions ?

If the car gets an oil and filter service at the main dealer each year with the diagnostics then why not, I’ve kept warranties on different cars by doing this so please explain some more.

You have to stick to the Toyota service schedule for it to apply not just an oil and filter, they dont let you just get an oil change but have someone else do everything else. This is not a warranty as such in the traditional sense it's more a perk you buy when you service with Toyota.

My Insight has 8 iridium plugs @ 80 euros each - nuts price but the intervals on changing then are 120,000 kms.

Its painful but Id be hoping to do them only twice in the cars lifetime. And theyre a pain to get at - the front 4 are fine but youve to strip half the car to get the back 4!!!

The Corolla Hybrid Spark plugs are 23-25 each, OEM… Even a 7 years old girl can change them… So 100 euro parts, 200 service…

You don't really know if you've kept the warranty or not until you try to make a warranty claim…

I think iridium plugs were first used in engines where some of the plugs are inaccessible (without a lot of work) as they last so much longer than standard plugs.
