Another statue of modern day Hitler pulled down this time at the southern entrance to Hama.

Would you give over with that "oh no the lefties" shite, if you don't see the difference between our relationship with the Assad regime and the State of Israel you might as well give up on politics

This looks like the end of Syria as we know it. The speed at which Assad's regime is collapsing suggests it's in a dire straights, tanks and air defence systems just abandoned. No one even tried to stand and fight.

With huge swathes of the country now back under rebel control and with Russia weakened, Assad simply won't have the weapons, money, or manpower to retake them. There are just too many foreign powers stronger than Russia who are backing the rebel groups. It's only a matter of time until he's toppled.

I am guessing the Sunni Islamists will end up controlling the vast majority of the country, maybe a Shia/Alawite territory emerges on the coast? As for the rest of Syria? I can't imagine it'll be too safe for and Druze, Christians, or Yazidi's. They will probably need to leave before they are forcibly removed by the Islamists.

The most optimistic hope here is a "clean" and fast separation. The nightmare scenario is the rebels topple Assad, then try to assert control over the entire country. Then we're back to square one again, just a new Assad.

The thing is though they did try to put up a fight at Hama but we're completely out fought. Did I hear Russia had been recruiting Syria mercenaries from the Assad regime? That would have weakened them further and they were probably the ones trained on the Russian equipment they abandoned.

The Kurds control a huge part of the country including Aleppo so hopefully they can leave peacefully together. I wouldn't say they'd be too keen trying to conquer the Kurds. Not easy to drive through the desert when the Americans will strike you before meeting a well armed Kurdish militia.

I'd be more worried if I was Sunni then Christian tbh but time will tell. I'm still hoping as they're Turkish backed they'll show a bit of decency. They certainly have so far.

If the LiveUA map is accurate, the rebels reached the outskirts of Homs this morning, reaching as far as a ring road around Homs.

If they get down as far as that "M20" road and hold that area, that's Assad cut off from land access to the coast (and the Russians).

Uprising in Daraa south of Damascus now with pro Assad forces being overrun in a couple of locations.

Surprising if it's true that Assad's people are quitting town now. I kind of quessed that they might make a stand here to prevent a loss of their corridor to the coast.

If there really is no fight left in the Syian Army, then it might only be a short matter of time before the rebels are in Damascus.

Funny how these " rebel" outfits never undertake or achieve huge gains in places like Saudi Arabia?

The Saudis didn’t kill 350,000 of their own population and flattened most of their own cities

Instead they spread the oil wealth around in massive welfare programs for locals

Meanwhile Syria and their Russian buddies use their natural wealth to exterminate their own people

Funny how Left wing now complaining about country with largest welfare spend in world that keeps their population happy while supporting dictators who eradicate their own people and steal the wealth

You might as well go ahead and tell us that the Gay Pride Festival is on in Jeddah this weekend while you’re at it.

That’s funny seeing how Putin’s regime is rounding up lads at gay nightclubs to be sent to the woodchipper

Extra funny when same lefties are busy defending Hamas and Hezbollah and Iranians whom are famously pro LGBTQ

Saudi Arabia is a shithole but at least they try to take care of their population majority of whom get massive payouts for doing nothing, unlike Syria where the wealth is used to exterminate their own population

They celebrated the death of Nasrallah, but mourned Haniyeh's death and praised October 7th. They are not to be trusted. It's bad news if they become the dominant player should the Assad regime fall.

I was based in Syria, 2013-2016, and I got my information from the people that I worked with. You think that they got it wrong, do you?

The war is only just getting started. After years of relative peace, Syria is once again going to be the battleground of the middle east as Turkey, US, Israel, Iran and Russia all fight by proxy to protect their interests.

Iran and Iraq may send troops to back the regime soon which will further escalate things. And US based in Northern Syria/Iraq may see more strikes against them in retaliation for their strikes on Hezbollah/Iranian supplies transiting the desert.

Ukraine and Turkey have been training and supplying HTS with FOV drones for a while now, and this will continue. Maybe Putin will throw another strop and send another ballistic missile at Dnipro for all the good that will do. Reality is they can't do much unless they fully confront Turkey which they do not want to do.

The Saudis brutally prevent any opposition to their American approved regime, they have also killed thousands in Yemen

This uprising in Syria is part of the next phase of the Greater Israel project, the rebels are American and Israeli backed

Because the Saud Family are keepers of the holy sites. Theres been discussions about just why the Saud family should have this honour, but it has never come to attacking them. Imagine, Muslims attacking in or near the Holy Sites??

Seems to be the case. Let's see if they can stop it and repulse them or are easily dealt with themselves.

I'm guessing it's all down to the calibre and motivation of these Paratroopers they sent in. If they are professional soliders with enough supplies, the rebels might have a hard time with them…but these are also highly motivated rebels, so they might have enough fight in them to take on a more capable opponent.

Just take reports with a grain salt. The Syrian conflict is fairly notorious for having actions that seem to only take place on Twitter. Seen similar reports the last few days supposedly taking place at Aleppo and Hama.

So far the HTS have only encoluntered cities towns and villages that would not have been fully 100% supportive of Assad, but the nearer they get to Damascus and the coast, that will change. In part because their lives will depend on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,549 ✭✭✭RGARDINR

That's it exactly 100%. More if these are Assad's elite units and they are taken out then I would say Assad is finished as other less capable units wont fight. Assad forces need a win and v soon.

Very true but I suppose the more places the anti assad forces take the more people will join their ranks and bigger they will be to try and take Damascus.
