    Let's hope not.

Remember that one well, as i was awake during the night, waiting for the roof to come off! Never heard a sustained nose level like it before, or since.

Gerry Murphy spoke about what has been mentioned here regarding the direction of the wind making the gusts even more impactful. This storm will be up there with Darwin and other past notable storms.

It will be interesting to see Sryan's league table after this storm.

It does look like Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Mayo, Galway and potentially Roscommon will go red this morning. A meeting is taken place with the local authorities and Met Eireann this morning at 10am so expect further updates to warnings after.

Sligo, Leitrim, Donegal, Fermanagh and Roscommon looks like it will be worst effected with a jet streak running down across the northwest and Midlands.

Big upgrade on the Met Eireann Ensembles forecast this morning now showing many areas in the Red warning criteria in the west and northwest.

Some parts are (with the younger kids) and segmented into the show but the show itself goes out live.

I’d imagine most people are reading this thread to see how it will effect them, rather than a technical discussion on how storms develop.

As long as people are respectful, which everyone seems to be, I can’t see how it’s a bad thing

I'm smack bang in that area of highest gusts on the last Arpege, Roscommon/Longford area.

Not looking forward to this one, at all.

My house faces NE, I usually can step outside and listen to the storm, when winds are coming from the prevailing directions, as I'm sheltered by the houses behind me. I won't be able to open the door for this one!

Seriously considering duct-taping around the windows as the seals are all gone, the windows blow open with a nor'easter!

The electricity will 100% go, and I've only got electric storage heating. I'll be sitting in the cold for 24hr+ unless I heat the bejeesus out of the house today and seal it up.

Really hoping if a red's being issued, that it's issued early. Some people will still not see any coverage and will put bins out/not think about the trampoline etc etc

An abundance of caution, giving an earlier stronger warning, might have the effect of having it shared a bit more widely to those who may not otherwise hear it

Really hope we don't have massive damage, or fatalities from this. Fingers crossed

Just on the topic of a 'Jet Streak' as this has been mentioned on here a number of times, and also in reference to Storm Darwin, there might be a bit of confusion in some people's minds over two terms. Jet Streak, and Sting Jet

These two terms refer to different things, but can be a bit confusing.

With Darwin, there was a strong Jet Stream that affected how powerful the overall storm was which contributed to there being a 'Jet Streak' associated with Darwin, but there was also a Sting Jet that saw a localised area of extremely high winds that caused a corridor of destruction across the mid west of the country and this is what turned Darwin from a generally powerful storm, into the most destructive storm I have ever personally experienced in my 41 years so far.

    Key Differences:

    Aspect

    Jet Streak

    Sting Jet

    Location

    Upper troposphere

    Mid-troposphere to surface

    Scale

    Large-scale atmospheric feature

    Localized within a storm

    Role

    Enhances large-scale storm dynamics

    Produces damaging surface winds

    Occurrence

    Associated with jet streams

    Specific to certain cyclones

All that said, does anyone see any evidence in the charts of a potential Sting Jet with Darragh because that would be adding even greater threat to an already dangerous storm

Red warnings are in: Galway, Clare, Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo, Mayo

This will be nasty with some serious damage.

Quite easy to scroll past the text posts and focus on the big red flashy charts

What's the time scale on the storm?

Have to travel from North Donegal to Monaghan tomorrow morning, leaving 630am.

upgraded to Red in the west

I will look forward to looking across the Shannon estuary at Clare safe in the knowledge red winds cant cross water. Much like dragons can only fly in straight lines according to Chinese folklore. 🙃

Exactly and there is too much stuff to wade through. If you’re busy it’s tough going wading through posts when you just need latest model info.

Winds of over 140kph will be likely in Sligo. Bye weather station.

They should defer toy show to tomorrow night.

That wouldn't be too hard would it. Thousands won't see it now due to power cuts.

One out of 100 FI predictions is going well for Mr. Nolan of Ireland's Weather Channel and he's gloating and point scoring. An obnoxious, smug individual.

Always good to see the model output over reporting. Herself is travelling down to me tonight and has been advised to leave a few hours earlier and tie things down before she leaves.

Usually these things are further north and appear earlier than forecast - we'll see if that holds.
