Genuinely considering abandoning ship here for a hotel tonight and coming back in the morning to hope everything is still in one piece. Looking at the 00z AROME and HRM, much of Wicklow is going to be hardest hit and probably go red from 1am-4am, then dropping back to orange until around 9am, and then yellow warning parameters into the late afternoon. Very scary charts all in all and it's been upgrade after upgrade since Wednesday evening.

I have a flight out of Dublin airport at 12.30pm tomorrow Saturday and coming home same day 10pm to/from Manchester.

I assume its all in the lap of the gods still if I get going/ home ? , looking at a local Manchester weather enthusiast on social media, they are giving the big warning for their side tomorrow also.

    Thanks

looking for some travel advice. I’m up in Dublin this afternoon for a hospital appointment. I’ve to drive back to North coastal Mayo. I wouldn’t be leaving Dublin until after 7pm. Am I better going ahead and diving tonight in a possible orange or staying in a hotel in Dublin and heading back up the road tomorrow morning. Basically it’s a case up driving through mayo 10pm tonight or Dublin 9am tomorrow. ?

Blood red sky showing up now here in Antrim. I’m dreading the storm tonight. The hens can go into the garage until tomorrow afternoon otherwise I won’t sleep worrying if they’re okay in the wooden coop. I hate the wind. Horrible time for outdoor animals.

Red sky in the morning, shepherd's warning ⚠️. Storm Darragh looks a dangerous storm. Take care folks.

I would definitely avoid driving through North Mayo after 9pm tonight. The worst part is it's a night where people stay at home so there won't be much traffic on the country roads - you can be the first to encounter falling trees etc. Enjoy a hotel somewhere.

    Nationwide orange issued.

Had same issue years back with United V Newcastle 5.30 pm kick off , tried numerous times to take off, eventually the pilot pulled the plug and cancelled, i was disappointed ,but then heard some of the lads who did make it to Manchester , their flight home was cancelled. I would rather not leave Dublin tomorrow if I know i aint getting home Saturday night.

There is a page on facebook " Manchester Weather " great source of weather information (and accurate ) when travelling over .

They are predicting winds of up to 60MPH during the day tomorrow, the only positive of that it might make Rashford move quicker !!

My missus swears by Cathal from Facebook and is therefore convinced we will all be getting Red warnings and ME are wrong :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,137 ✭✭✭adocholiday

I would bet money that they'll issue some reds around 10am if not before, their ensemble runs usually come out around 9 and then it updates on the site around 10

I certainly can think of a lot of swears in relation to him!

No doubt he will have a Black warning or some such nonsense.

    That's pre-recorded

A lot of rain looks like being dumped with this storm also, highly expect upgrade to some Red issued warnings at some stage after lunch. Some serious potential for widespread damage looking at the track and intensity

There will be power outages and felled trees galore across the country tonight as a result of Storm Darragh

The strongest winds will arrive very quickly unlike the slow build-ups in such systems that we are normally accustomed to.

Just to say a big thanks to the posters in here, any weather event announced I always come to this section. Brilliant information and nice to learn a little about it all, its fascinating! Usually find posts in here better than MetE.

I hope RTE has provided accommodation for all the small children who will be performing in the Late Late toy show tonight. Cause if they're going to be heading home to the 4 corners of Ireland around midnight tonight, they could be in big trouble and the very very last thing anyone wants to hear about tomorrow is some tragic accidents from people travelling home after the Toy show.

Some of the lads, especially meteorite go in to the finest of detail, which as you say, is far more beneficial than the general forecasts ME provide.

Snap @Robwindstorm stunning sky this morning with the usual caveat of course 😳

Heading West at 3pm before the warning but not looking forward to the rain for the journey. Suppose that's approaching now as the sky has gone dull in Meath.

Looks like a storm that could merit a technical and a wheelie bin thread?

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

It looks like the UK Met will call a red for parts of UK. Most likely that means Met Eireann will do too for certain counties. Expect the media to go into super drive in the next few hours!!

As for the toy show, all jokes aside its on dodgy territory if a red is called even if Dublin is not red

One of the worst storms I remember is storm Darwin back in 2014. Could this be up there with it?

Could we get a technical thread for this storm and leave this one to the usual “will my wheels bin blow away”, “I’ve a flight…” stuff?
