Hi,

Rad stays hot

I swapped out the thermo valve TOP twisty valve only

Same issue. So it's not that

Can I get an plastic valve and use it to turn the rad off from that side ?

I'm not that confident about plumbing and usually avoid it ....don't want to replace the bit thats between white twisty top in the pic and whats between it and the rad

The new twisty top may not be the correct one for the valve body. Alternatively the valve body itself may be faulty and need to be replaced.

As an interim measure, you could close the other side (turn clockwise) and that will stop it heating Note it is an old valve and there is a chance that it could leak when you touch it!

Try a small adjustable spanner or a pipe grips to close the valve but don't damage the top and watch for any hint of a leak as you start to move the valve.

Edit: meant to say take the plastic off first. If the thermostatic valve is stuck open it's a complete swap which if you're not confident is a plumber job as it can get messy.
