Yeah there's bound to be a different conversation with board level people who look at the numbers to the sporting people who just want to win everything.

The kind of money Perez brings is a huge wedge of the overall budget.

I haven't seen much to suggest Lawson is ready for driving the RB alongside Max. It's crazy they've ended up in this position when it has been clear for so long that Perez is struggling

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,887 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

Crazy situation for redbull. Perez had to go but I don't think Lawson is really standing out.

Sainz Should be in the redbull for next year. I wonder if Max wouldn't have it.

This is a wild set of changes to remove accountability/transparency. MBS reign can't end soon enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,701 ✭✭✭CMOTDibbler

The only transparency left will be how transparent the efforts to effectively insulate MBS from any accusations are.

Side note. Interesting to see one of Perez's backers (Carlos Slim Domit) is on the senate. Maybe not so hard to understand why Red Bull are treating him so carefully.

That is interesting re. Slim. I think this may also have some bearing on things:

    This too shall pass.

We are heading straight for another split in the F1 ruling body if they keep this crap up.

It's to be voted at general assembly. Who are the General assembly?

Any right minded people won't pass this nonsense.

The president will be a dictator if this goes through. He really should be removed from that office.

What is it about sporting organisations that attract the worst? See also Fifa, UEFA, OCI, etc.

No more Dutch Grand Prix after 2026. Link.

I kind of assumed it would run until max retires and that'd be that. Is max retiring in 26? 👀

Sorry to bring Formula E into the F1 thread but look at this beautiful livery. 🤑

    This too shall pass.

Really surprised that no one in here posted about Lewis Hamilton and his big interview about going to space with Everyday Astranaut.,

    Excellent watch.

I disliked when Schumacher was winning all the time…and I miss those days. It'll be the same when Lewis retires (whenever that is), so maybe we should enjoy the Ferrari years before he hangs up his race gloves.

I think Lewis has been fcuked over by Mercedes this year, i'm sure stories will come out at some stage, but for George to be that much quicker than him doesn't add up, because George is no more than average imo, and in fairness to Lewis, he is one of the best drivers of recent times. I don't buy the GOAT nonsense. That Merc he won all his titles in was basically a different formula to the rest of the teams so only really needed to be his team mate, and even then, he didn't always do that.

Anyway, his fanboys over on HYS on BBC and the likes have a bit of a head scratcher, they don't seem to like Georgie boy or Lando to the same extent but tend to focus all of their attention on hating Max if Lewis hasn't performed on a weekend.

    It's great stuff alltogether.

I don't rate lewis as much as the british biased sky do, he's not a GOAT, he got lucky with his cars. MSC developed a lot of the mercedes early cars. Then once 2014 hit they were unbeatable. Arguably that level of dominance led to the restrictions on dev time that we have now. Him and his mid teammates that he sometimes struggled to or barely beat.

MSC, Senna, Max, Alonso, probably Vettel are drivers I'd have over lewis. One of my fav drivers growing up was Damon Hill and I'd rate Lewis as above that level or a bit higher. Hill won his WDC in 96 because he had by far the better car, couldnt beat MSC in 94 after half the season having schumacher out or black flagged, and only wins in 96 because he had a mid and novice teammate. Probably around (one of my all time fav drivers) Kimi actually.

Sainz should be in the redbull. No doubt about it. He's no generational talent but he has proven the equal of leclerc in that ferrari, he has come from the redbull stable, and only left for more opportunity so I don't see a reason other than max saying no that he isnt in the redbull next year. And I like max a lot. He drives like MSC and Senna did. Pushing the rules but not too much.

I have never disliked Lewis, but between sky and his fanbase primarily in England, it has led me to dislike the car he's been in. The Brits when it comes to motor racing are a funny lot. Think of that nasal voiced Clarkson does on occasions when taking the mickey. They think the auto world starts and ends with the cars they produce. They think of JLR as some kind of kingdom of greatness.

The racous cheering and delight when Lewis shunted Max off the track at Silverstone a few years back was the final straw for me, especially when sky tried to call it a racing incident and ever since then i have had a major bee in my bonnet if you like, with both of them.

McClaren which i always loved, have now with the help of the loud American turned in to another British car that i dislike. That only leaves Williams, and sure they're practically American now anyway.

Anyway, that's all a bit off topic to anything really

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,594 ✭✭✭✭flazio

I'd isolate the hate to "English" rather than "British". Race winners like Sir Jackie Stewart and David Coulthard tend to be well liked around here while any English race winners over the years like Jonny Herbert, Jenson Button, Damon Hill, Lando Norris, George Russell and Sir Lewis Hamilton are either played down as nothing special or out right derided.

    This too shall pass.

"They think the auto world starts and ends with the cars they produce. They think of JLR as some kind of kingdom of greatness."

Kind of ironic as the only cars they produce now are foreign cars and they are getting less too now as well. Honda pulled out of the UK Ford are cutting back on jobs, Nissan too etc. Soon they will have none. I give it a decade at most.

    Who's the loud American?

I'm not a Hamilton fan but hes been a brilliant driver in F1 and a far superior driver than Hill. He's right up there with the best of them.

The Sky w@nkfest over him when he was winning races I could see why people dislike and play down his achievements. Yeah he had a great car but he has the skills to match.

Was lucky to see him race for his debut in F1 many years ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,186 ✭✭✭wazzzledazzle

Fair point Flazio, and absolutely agree

@AMKC Zak Brown is the loud American

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,186 ✭✭✭wazzzledazzle

He was/is an absolutely brilliant driver, but next season will be absolutely crucial for his legacy. If he is hammered by LeClerc like the way George has hammered him this season, then his legacy imo has been diminished and cannot be talked amongst the greatest of all time.

But them arguments are nonsense anyway, and always down to peoples opinions. There can't be any metrics comparable to each really and using WDC titles is a skewed argument
