Old brown log book

hi so I got a car with the old brown log book just wondering if I send it to Shannon will I get a new version I would rather a new Because the brown one is in very bad condition.and another thing it’s got the old style number plates so if I change to newer log book will I get newer version number plate or do they stay the same?

My last brown log book was so full of ownership changes that it had a piece of paper stapled into it to hold the additional owners. Sent it back to Shannon and a fresh new brown log book arrived out, along with the old one. They don't switch your reg number over unless you request it. That was 5 year ago or so btw.

ok thanks for that my book is very tatty barely see the writing on it would be nice to get a new one don’t mind if it’s a old brown one or a new one.just thought maybe if I got a new one the reg might change to a more modern reg

like a modern day reg just not sure if they do that if they give you a new log book probably not.

If importing before the current series of numbers was introduced in 1987 they used to just give you the next number due to be issued in your county.
So a ten year old car would have the consecutive number to a brand new one.
New numbers would not be issued just because a copy log book was required.
As others said the same applies now.
You should consider photo copying the old logbook because it is part of the history of the car.

Can't change a ZV reg - you can go from a year plate to ZV, but not the other way around

Those are for imported cars. Cars with original Irish number plates are more sought after than (the equivalent car) with imported plates
