Giving just a top 7 means you are indicating that you have no preference beyond that as to who gets in.

From my point of view, I would have taken anybody else running as a better choice than Ted Neville, so that's why I made sure he got my lowest preference. It won't happen, but it would mean that my vote goes everywhere else against him before he gets elected.

Realistically, I voted Labour 1, Soc Dems 2. What's probable is that my vote will stay with Labour until the end (assuming Harmon stays ahead of Rice) or will transfer to Rice and then stay there. I suspect one of those 2 will either be the last candidate elected or the last remaining candidate not elected. But still felt good to put Neville last and Aontú second last.

Ah, that makes sense. I was the reverse - Soc Dems 1 and Labour 2

Voted just before Midday. Voted my TOP 10 only. Padraig Rice No 1! Had a prepared list, head like a sieve for names, so didn't take long to mark my ballot. Also means I have a record to follow my ballot during the results.

Everyone I've spoken to is putting Padraig Rice at #1 or close to it. I wonder if that is just my echo chamber, or if it's a good sign for him

That is a good shout re taking in a list - I forget that we can.

Voted at Bunscoil Chríost Rí. It was busy. One might even describe it as brisk with the tea time rush in full flow.

Voted all the way down to give Neville my 22nd preference. Know it won’t / shouldn’t come down to such low preferences, but felt it was right to make the point.

Problem with these is the ranking of issues. Loads of questions I don’t care about at all. Bogue came second for me but her answer on Ukraine meant I would never, ever vote for her. It’s really important to check the answers!

Hope he does well, think in some earlier comment it was mentioned he had a 9% chance of getting in, he got my vote along with my wife's vote

I just used it as a guide and gave my first 3 preferences to people who I choosed. Did check the answer on questions that I was concerned with most. Like 'Rice' who i disagreed with on 'Hate Speech' but still gave a No.1. For preferences 4 to 10 it assisted me. I downgraded myself another candidate that would have got a higher preference.

Printed off my 'Order Preference' and made a list to take to the ballot with me.

Which sites are you keeping watch of today, for the count results?

    10.45am:
Early tallies from Cork South Central, with 20% of boxes open, show Micheál Martin and Seamus McGrath (FF) performing well, alongside Sinn Féin’s Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire.

The surprise so far is the Social Democrats' Padraig Rice (Soc Dems), who is in contention for a seat.

In Fine Gael’s internal contest, Senator Jerry Buttimer is edging ahead of Shane O’Callaghan and Una McCarthy.

Who was predicting that Jerry Buttimer wouldn't do well?

^^ Might be a good site when counts come in?

Edit: - Sorry Examiner site may be behind a Subscription paywall. Have an account because a relative here, get's the paper delivered.

IrishTimes seem's to have results behind a paywall as well.

Oh I hope Buttimer doesn't get in. I voted Laura Harmon but wouldn't mind if Padraig Rice gets in instead (he got my number 2)

    • "Many people are going down to their 14th and 15th preferences," McGrath told reporters after a stroll around the count centre.
    • But perhaps the most interesting twist will be the fight for that fifth seat, following the addition of Bishopstown, Glasheen and Mardyke, with the Social Democrats’ Pádraig Rice, only a councillor a few months, now tipped to potentially pull off a famous victory for Holly Cairin’s party.

What a way to phrase it 'SocDems look to eat Labour's lunch', also glad 'Pádraig Rice' is hopefully going do well and get a seat. Glad I gave him my 1st Preference! As it says was he predicted by some observers?

Oh I only went as far as 10, have people really gone deeper?

@Pen Rua Did you bring in a list that you voted the full ballot?

    • 7.05pm: Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has been elected on the first count in Cork South Central. The Tánaiste secured 14,526 votes, some 4,075 votes above the quota of 10,451. ~~ Source

Glad Rice has done well and unless he gets a lot of transfers, can't see my ballot going further at this stage.

Didn’t end up bringing a list. Had a look at the ballot online before I went then took my time at the polling centre.

That's some performance from the top 2 FF candidates. You have to assume that's the last general election for MM, going out on top.

Looks like Rice will grab the soft left seat alright, just hoping that O'Callaghan moves ahead of Buttimer for the blueshirt seat.

I edited and mentioned TheJournal as another good guide in the 'General Thread' but just found this silly mistake.

Im not au fait with Neville's politics..

Why did he do/propose to get such a low vote?

He's a far right, anti immigrant member of the national party. This crowd:

Should be obvious enough why his vote is low and deserves to be low.

As Michael Martin surplus didn't change the order of the top candidates here is a different graph of count 2!

    image.png

    Source: - https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/ireland/arid-41522870.html

As could be predicted must transfers went to McGrath, but FG pickup some too! Rice +79.

3 candidates elimited for next count.

    • Ward, Valerie
      105
    • O'Leary, John
      61
    • Field, Tony
      37

    Edit 22:49: -

No change from the order on last count!

For count 4 counting Graham DE BARRA, eliminated 230 votes. He was my 10th preference to bury my ballot on a no-hoper!

Note:- I will be going out for dinner tomorrow and busy in the morning so could someone accept the task of keeping the thread updated. @dulpit ???? 😀

Mick Finn has jumped a head of Shane O'Callaghan as of count 7!

    Eliminations this morning: -

Home again and back on laptop!

Interesting watching where McGrath transfers went!

Distribution of votes for McCARTHY Úna (FG), Excluded on Count 11 went to other FG and pushed Mick Finn down the order list again. Green's distribution now.

Edit 16:24: - Green's transfers mainly went to SD and Labour!

Anna DALY, AON been assigned now.

3 seats filled, 2 to go. 3 candidates left, you have to assume Shane O'Callaghan transfers to Buttimer and himself and Rice are elected with Mick Finn last man looking in.

Padraig rice elected! Delighted for him and the social democrats in general. Buttimer, somehow, getting his chance in the dail also

Hope people don't start using the 18 count against them like they have with Simon Harris!
