"As is clear from the terms of s. 169(1) of the Legal Services Regulation Act 2015, the default position is that the party who is entirely successful in civil proceedings is entitled to an award of costs against the party who is unsuccessful, unless the court orders otherwise, having regard to the nature and circumstances of the case and the conduct of the proceedings by the parties, including a non-exhaustive list of factors to which the court may have regard. None of the factors identified in the section appear to be of particular relevance in the context of this case"

    It'll be an interesting argument.

Only two types of people can afford to go to court, the wealthy and the poor.

The risks with a two week jury trial to someone like the Plaintiff are huge. It could bankrupt the Plaintiff.

The judge won't want to do it, but Lawrence wasn't found liable so why should he be left with the bill.

Don't know if judge can have regard to McGregor's offer to pay or not.

Does he still own those drinks companies? Or make any profits from them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58,436 ✭✭✭✭walshb

sold the whisky and made tidy sum. Think still has a stake in stout

Now he has his heartfelt tweet out on X 😆.

Show that he is really a good family man who loves his partner more than anything in world (goes home to her after unprotected sex with random women) made a mistake 😆.

Few days ago he was telling of having unprotected sex with 2 different women 5 times in one night and how athletic and vigorous it was and very proud of himself 😆.

    He is some spoofer.

McGregor's latest tweet, playing to his idiot fans as if this was his one and only transgression

He is always the victim, he has played this role for many years. It is never his fault. He was being perfectly innocent. Booking a hotel, coke and drink party with women and he should not have gave in to her outreaches

As khabids tweet from 2019 perfectly summed up, he is not responsible for his own actions.

“am beyond grateful to my family, friends and supporters all over the world who have stayed by my side. “

I reckon he’s losing a lot of fans and followers in Ireland -hence referencing further afield to try and garner sympathy

afraid not in this case.. the staff she met when the paramedics brought her in said "the bruising is in line with that of a rape" - and at this point she refused to name anyone - and was not reporting a rape - "had wanted to get on with xmas for the sake of her child and forget all about it".. listen to the posdcast - legal correspondent from the irish times

Rape is a type of sexual assault.

He was found guilty of it by the jury.

The judge told the jurors in the civil action that "rape is a form of assault" and if they found in Ms Hand's favour they would have to award substantial damages as "rape is a very serious matter".

would have to award substantial damages as "rape is a very serious matter"

The jury awarded around €188,000 in special damages and €60,000 in general damages (due to lost earnings / future earnings afaik), but absolutely no aggravated or exemplary damages,

He isn't the sharpest tool in the box.

Unable to read a room, flamboyant and flashy in a courtroom in a rape case. He was sure he wouldn't lose, so much so he brought his missus with him for the verdict.

He's probably brain damaged from MMA.

He's just going to play the Trump card. Many MMA fighters, some who hate him in terms of fighting are supporting him. He has the backing of Dana who has the backing of Trump. I'm starting to realise this isn't going to effect him at all.

With that said, I hope the court sitting next week works out well for Nikita, especially with regards the Lawrence situation she could be in debt.

Shock horror, a man who beats people up turns out to be a scumbag. Can't say I am surprised.

    Glad she got some justice.

Seems that the ruling is starting to have some impact on his 'legacy'. Hopefully more follow.

Clever word play may win debates, but it doesn't make it true.

Understanding and explaining things, is not the same as justifying them, if in doubt… please re-read this statement.

Musgraves group removed all his brands.

As I said this 250k is a drop in the ocean compared to damage to his brands and image.

Is he in the doghouse? First mention of dee in latest statement

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58,436 ✭✭✭✭walshb

no he’s not. Dee knows well what he gets up to. It’s just that this is now very much in the public eye.

Is that on Twitter or instagram? Do you have any link or synopsis of what’s said?
I see in the Daily Fail today there’s a short write up on Dee and how the picture of her leaving the courthouse looking so down has gone “viral” - I’ve no doubt other feature articles will happen - people are asking genuine questions around how she is impacted by his behaviour.
I felt the “turn out” on the day of the verdict was in preparation of a no finding against him verdict and he would have made a big publicity spectacle of himself dragging his family members around the press and photographers showing how he had their backing - very hard to believe they were all there providing unquestioning support to him

People want to hear from me, I needed time," McGregor wrote. "I know I made mistakes. Six years ago, I should have never responded to her outreaches.

"I should have shut the party down. I should never have stepped out on the woman I love the most in the world. That’s all on me.

"As much as I regret it, everything that happened that night was consensual and all the witnesses present swore to that under oath. I have instructed my legal team to appeal the decision.

"I can’t go back and I will move forward. I am beyond grateful to my family, friends and supporters all over the world who have stayed by my side. That’s it. No more. Getting back to the gym- the fight game awaits!"

"now you now what if felt like when I was in the octagon and had to tap out 3 times" - he said this to her on his 3rd "choking" act on her..

To the legal eagles…if McGregor appeals the decision, could this result in Ms. Hand having to attend and possibly testify again? Like a new civil trial, so to speak?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166 ✭✭redshift-rider

His boxing coach Philip Sutcliffe was forced to resign from Independent Ireland the other day, presumably due to his support of or association with McGregor.

The Hitman videogame studio announced they are severing all ties with him and removing him from the game.

I did a search of Forged Irish Stout and Proper 12 Whiskey on various supermarket and off-license websites and most seem to have removed the products this morning. Maybe getting ahead of the rumored boycott.

On the grapevine i've heard some business partners, athletes etc are allegedly preparing to sever ties with SBG Ireland due to McGregor's association … possibly also due to John Kavanagh's support of McGregor during the trial. No sponsor wants their banner up beside a big poster of McGregor.

I think there will be more fallout over the coming days. It's a bad look for any company, advertiser or athlete to be the last one to sever ties with an abuser because then it seems like you are just copying everyone else. Better to do it quick rather than look around to see who else is doing it.

Honest question though, if McGregor appeals and is sucessful, would you support the removal of all boycotts?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,667 ✭✭✭✭rob316

He sold the whiskey to Proximo years back but I'd imagine they can sue him for damages if the brand is potentially worthless now. About to get very expensive for him
