This new rule is causing issues for some like me who's order was " in transit" coal warehouse covering the cost of possibly splitting the pallet to two,, either way they have been very good/apologetic etc, they have rang to explain the predicament,I ordered 1 tonne of smokeless ovoids,I generally use about a tonne a year but have found them to suit my stove/ routine ( if i want to shut down at 8pm it will go again at lunchtime the next day no bother usually ,I tried some local purchased ovoids and no comparison, some on here have had poor batches but I am about 8 years buying from them and have had no issues, hopefully the next batch will be okay when it gets here,,740 kg will be the new order from the conversation I had earlier,, couriers reluctant to deliver that to residential areas also possibly an issue.

Hi thanks for the message. On a open fire with a small fire grate I found the heat provide was only warm. The ash

needs to be emptyed twice a day. It also burn to quick.

The main thing is the very tiny bits of somthing black which are spit out by the ovoid has they are burning. Which cover the fire place hearth and even get on to the hearth rug. When I vacuum with a Henry vacuum you can hear the bits rattling up the metal tube

A photo of the bits of fire place hearth on white paper so they stand out.

A photo showing how much I swept up of the fireplace hearth after the fire been in 8 hours.

But I only pay £378 for a ton including delivery to England which is good value for money. Compared to the average price in England is £550 for a ton of smokeless.

Hi I used eco glow green bag on our open fire last winter I found it give out good heat and was long burning. It was bit ash but I found that with most smokeless coal. It is better than CW ovoid.

More local, if you want a small quantity of coal or wood briquettes, TJ O'Mahony have decent deals

    5 x 20kg supertherm €70

    5 x willow warm €30

With the cold snap this week, it might be handy for those who don't need a ton or so.

I use eco glow in stove

That is handy, 5 bags of 20kg is like having your average 16 stone wanna be American in the back of the motor.

Pay more, but no big storage space and no pallet to deal with.

Try out some of your new stuff sooner rather than later. Here's what I've got this morning, I lit the fire at 1pm yesterday with about half bucket of coal, by 4pm it had gone down and not much heat so put on the other half, by about 6 it was back down again so used logs untill about 10pm the left

    That's very disappointing 5500.

    Worth giving them a call?

I find it burns better when added to a base of strong ish kindling that is blazing well.

I've contacted them but no reply yet, just to show here's this mornings result having burned eco glow yesterday what was left this morning.

Only upside really is it's a half tonne and I'll probably do my best to get through it as quick as I can to make space again

But won't you leave the un-burnt coal for next fire Shirley

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,391 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

Cheapest coal for me is 0.00

I just pick up some cans and bottles I have access to, that I never purchased, return them, and buy a bag of coal.

I've ordered 2 tonne off them in the last few weeks.

Split between 4 households, only used a few bags so far because of the mild weather until this week but no complaints so far.

Some other posters were happy with theirs as well.

Probably best to contact the seller

Has anyone any experience with either of these and is there that much difference between both bags?

Up to now I was buying the Supertherm from McGeough, but I can no longer get any company to deliver from McGeough’s now so I’m looking for an alternative, I’m also wondering how do either of those compare to the Supertherm.

Hmmmmmmm? smokelesscoalexpress email today and this I think this is noteworthy?

NOT AVAILABLE IN CORK, KERRY, MAYO OR KERRY ONLY 40X20KG OPTIONS ARE AVALABLE IN THE MENTIONED AREAS. AVAILBLE IS THE REST OF THE COUNTRY.

    Anyone know why?

Wake me up when it's all over.

I wonder is it something to do with local delivery service, and max weight allowed for them to handle on a pallet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 290 ✭✭Lancashire-lad

hi the company who transport the pallet, are no longer willing to carry one ton pallet of smokeless coal .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 315 ✭✭dollylama

From what I've been told verbally and received by email, the hauliers are pulling back from domestic coal delivery for their own reasons... Cork being one of the counties mentioned. I'd wager it boils down to coal deliveries to domestic dwellings are an absolute torture ... poor access and limited turning space, no flat yard to drop the tail, driveways with loose chippings or kerbs at the end defeating the electric pallet truck, home owners demanding the coal is to go here there and everywhere but not up their newly tarred driveway. Then there's the hassle of billing and getting paid by a one-off customer.

The new 750kg limit for the pallet network is a bit of compromise. Tail lifts on lorries and electric pallet trucks will manage a tonne at their ease but as above, a tail lift and an electric pallet truck can be cumbersome in domestic settings. Added too, not every haulier carries an electric pallet truck as they can lose a pallet space, opting for a manual pull along pump truck instead. In some instances, they'll send out a truck without a tail lift if they know they're to be offloaded at the customer end by forklifts, which farms and businesses would commonly have onsite.

No. They aren't willing to transport it to particular areas?

Sounds to me like the hauliers who cover those areas don't want to do what they are paid to do.

£460 is pricey enough for the coal from then and then £70 on top make it fairly expensive compared to either of those two bags on the Black Friday offering. I just wonder how do those compare ro the Supertherm though. Thanks for posting the link.
