Th is a major problem France have a younger man at 22yrs old starting against NZ. Clarkson isn't trusted at champions cup for Leinster and they had to sign a french prop. Even NZ have tosi who is 23 I believe. Clarkson is too small even Leinster know that which is why he is 3 rd choice

Yeah, that’s it, it’s all the big bad media again. Andy Farrell picks his team based on what Ruadhri O’Connor and Gerry Thornley think.
    #conspiracy.

The back row isn’t hopping as it should. But like the back row years ago of POM Stander and either SOB or VDF can’t remember which, it just wasn’t working, it was less than the sum of its parts. Feel the last 2 weeks have been like that. No one in particular at fault but it’s not balanced as a unit.

I think VDF played fairly well and Doris is always somewhere between solid and great - but I think he is very targeted now as the only big carrier in the backrow. The big issue for me is at 6 which doesn't suit Beirne anymore. I think Baird or Izichukwu would just bring that bit of athleticism that we're lacking.

They've been making these claims since before the France game.

V Fiji, I wouldn’t be taking their physicality too lightly, but getting gametime is important for this group

    Healy

    Herring

    Furlong

    Baird

    Henderson

    Izuchukwu

    Timony

    Prendergast

    Casey

    Prendergast

    Nash

    McCloskey

    Osborne

    Stockdale

    Keenan.

They've beaten everyone in TRC this year. What do they have to do to be on the level of NZ?

You watched the match last night and concluded that Henshaw is on a downward trend? I concluded that if he had been playing against NZ we might have had more a chance.

I had exactly the same image of Kearney banging it over left-footer from there when I saw it.

    This is abject nonsense.

Farrell, when asked about Crowley, said “some real good stuff actually”. He tempered it a little bit by saying “and some bits you’d like to tidy up” - which is entirely fair and accurate.

It’s natural there would be a press focus on a 21 year old on debut.

You’re inventing sleights in your head here (no love for Crowley) and fantastical situations about the players “kicking back at him”, and calling what are perfectly fair and balanced comments a disgrace.
    #conspiracy

name one other player he called out by name and then love bombed their replacement - and to call a try and a very good drop goal really good stuff is underplaying it. Farrell is deflecting.

And if I was a conspiracy guy I would say lions are coming soon - if you follow.

    I actually don’t follow, haven’t a clue what you’re on about.

He was asked a specific question about Crowley and gave a fair and honest response. He might have been a little more gushing about how good he was in the first 40 mins (where I thought he was excellent, one of his best 40 mins in green), but he did, like a lot of his teammates, lose his way a bit in the second half and make some mistakes.

Crowley is the sort of character who looks like he demands a lot of himself and has that drive - this is what comes with being the Irish 10. You’re going to be the first or second player the coach is asked about, and the bar is high in terms of expectations.

On Prendergast - it’s not a like for like comparison right now. He was fulsome in his praise in my view relative to his situation.

Some of the headlines about this game, like the Independent say: “Andy Farrell hails Crowley and Prendergast impacts but slams penalty count” - that’s a fairly cry from your depiction above.

I would argue you completely misrepresented the situation.

so you can’t name one other player called out. Crowley was called out for both games.
It’s a dangerous game to be playing by Farrell, players notice these things and while some will join in with the scapegoating within the squad. others won’t and then you have a divided squad.

As for Pendergast I wish him well but he is not ready physically for international rugby , Fiji and Australia’ will head hunt him if he is involved.
I would hate to see the man’s confidence harmed or worse he gets a serious injury.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,392 ✭✭✭FtD v2

He didn’t call out Crowley either - he was asked the question ffs and gave a very fair and honest reply. Is he supposed to lie?

Calling it scapegoating is conspiracy theory nonsense, along with your little fan fiction about the squad dividing etc. With the greatest respect, you haven’t an absolute rashers what is going on in the squad.

    100%

Itt's exactly the conversation they would have in reviews too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 601 ✭✭✭thamus doku

There is no need to get upset.
it is what it is. I am not the only one who has commented on how Farrell is treating Crowley.

I am not in the squad but have been around enough club squads to know what’s going on here and where this is going to end.
Farrell has his mind made up he wants Pendergast as his starting 10, he is in the process of making this happen.

Just listened back to Farrell’s press conference. Ok, he probably overpraised Prendergast a tad. I’d expect that to give a young lad some confidence on his first cap. But I thought his comments re Crowley were very fair, and could come out of Crowley’s mouth tbh given I think he’d be hard on himself. What else was he expected to say? Crowley had a really good first half and not so good in the second. I’ve thought for a while he looks tired.
I’m a huge fan of Crowley, but SP did look the part coming on, even though I’ve said in this forum that it’s a bit too soon for him physically. Great position for Ireland to be in with two excellent, young, OHs, both of whom should be pushing each other come the next World Cup. I hope it’s Crowley, would be happy if it’s Prendergast and don’t care as long as Ireland win.

I’m not the one getting upset, and I’m also not the one inventing scenarios in my head.

There’s nothing remotely unfair in Farrell’s comments on Crowley and his performance over the past few weeks.

I see praising a player on his debut is now controversial

On Osborne, I think we’ve just witnessed the passing of the baton from Aki to Osborne as part of the triumvirate in the centre.

I think Aki is on the wane and along with the transfer rumours I think he’ll be finding himself down the pecking order.

I’m not keen on seeing Osborne in the back 3 as his main position as I think he’s best at 12 and you should try have players in their best positions.

We’ve rarely had all 3 of Aki, Henshaw and Ringrose fit at the same time. If that continues to be the case then Osborne will get plenty of starts if he’s fit.
That then begs the question of what to do with Frawley who’s best position is also 12?

    France have an incredible system

They have the Top 14 and then another professional league which if they want players to get minutes they can move them down to that league while still contracted to the Top 14 sides.

We have 4 pro clubs and the AIL

Also with the URC the number of games has reduced since the previous versions so less chances for players. Hence why the EI is a great tour. I said it many years ago we need to look at ways to move players around and give them a chance and not within Ireland, maybe overseas and then bring back. Jackman goes on about sending players to ProD2 like the Top 14 sides, maybe an option

some people getting very upset and tetchy with other posters when having to discuss something on the internet which they don't agree with.

If we all thought the same way, it wouldn’t be much of a discussion forum, would it .

He's the coach. If he wanted Prendergast at 10 he doesn't need to engineer some convoluted scenario to do it - he can just pick him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,259 ✭✭✭mun1

i think its just that Farrell is coming across very annoyed after the last 2 games, and i dont blame him His body language during the match is getting the tv directors attention as well.

He’s being asked direct questions about Crowley and prendergast as tension sells clicks. And is only being honest in his answers.

He will need to learn how to hold his cards close to his chest as lions coach ashes dealing with only friendly media now , but the Oz media are sharks.

Thought some of the criticism of Crowley's re-starts on here last week was over-stating. Three of them were exactly like this one last night:
