He successfully sold very expensive EVs in the land of the free and cheap petrol, so not using oil is not their strong selling point.

I thought petrol was horribly expensive and Trump will now make it cheaper.

I've just blocked 20 porn bots ffs.

Just leave it. I stopped using it ages ago. It's a horrible place now. Any remotely topical tweet is flooded with right wing accounts replying. It means you have to keep scrolling past "verified" accounts to reach the actual discussion.

I've just blocked all notifications and never go to it anymore. The only treason I haven't deleted it is because if I see a thread linked in a news article I might want to view it. So once every couple of months it gets opened.

I'm only on Twitter for non political stuff - and if you block/mute enough it works. I barely see anything political.

Looks like the $44B he The Saudis and other billionaire investors spent on twitter was well spent now they have the US President, Senate, House and The US Supreme Court in their back pocket. They will probably make the money back ten fold with US Government contracts.

@Quantum Erasure Is this your first encounter with the changed 'Block Function'?

Even with been prevented from retweeting, loophole is you can copy the url and link to it anyway.

I got this reply today from 'Xitter' within around 24 hours of requesting it.

Your Twitter archive is ready for you to download and view using your desktop browser. Make sure you download it before Nov 15, 2024, 4:20:35 PM.

Not that I will be deactivating, don't want someone else to re use it. After the 29th I will probably just protect my account instead. Also want to test out feeding my followers.js to this Threads tool: -

https://www.xtothreads.com/ ~~ Newly created tool, so don't expect great results yet.

    In the news today: -

well, the first 'organic' encounter with it. had looked at accounts that had me blocked but first time coming across one on the timeline (being quote-tweeted) and tried to interact.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,380 ✭✭✭archfi

I was plagued by them too for a while.

This worked for me without me knowing it would work for me.

Remove all pornbot 'followers', lock/protect your account, unlock your account.

Now I had mine locked for a while, maybe a couple of weeks as I don't tend to spend every day on any platform and lo and behold I haven't had a pornbot follow me since and that's been about 6 weeks.

A thing isn't what it says it is.

A thing is what it does.

Just noticed the changes to the block function when Rory Cowan tweets started appearing in my timeline. (For some reason he has me blocked even though I never interacted with him).

You aren't really Irish unless he's blocked you. ;)

Great exodus to BlueSky again now. Lots of Irish people joining now.
Some people are staying ‘to take the fight to the enemy’. They’re deluded. It’s done. It belongs to fascists now. Engaging them only amplifies them.
It sucks but it’s time to leave.
A little reminder of why you should leave if you’re still there.

Hmm, literally just tried to sign up for Bluesky now and the signup page is in an infinite refresh loop so I can't actually type in my email. (on Chrome) Can't see the email field at all on Firefox.

I'd actually wonder if this time round, this could lose Tesla a lot of popularity. I went electric earlier in year and intentionally avoided Tesla. Now he's elevated to a far more dangerous position, basically like giving Henry Ford a role in government.

Using this https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/sky-follower-bridge/ look who I found that is on it now.

No posts on the platform, so don't know when he joined or if it is a legitimate account.

Edit: Clearsky reports the account was registered 10 Days ago.

Anyone who stays on twitter to fight the enemy is either a sadist or a simpleton.

Changing the ToS as well on the 15th, no choice but to allow your posts train Grok apparently. Massive intake of new accounts on Bluesky last couple of days - One great feature is the availability of lists to mass block/subscribe (loads of Irish pol or arts lists from X for example, and a lot of Nazi block lists)

Catturd lasted a couple of hours before being banned for making threats, so the moderation seems a lot lot better. No point staying on Xhitter now, it is unusable, and for some people probably unsafe. Seems to be morphing into Truth social / Gab / 4chan, there's no way space karen's megaphone is coming back. Once all the decent folk go, it will be nothing but Nazis and porn bots raging at each other

The influx, largely from North America and the UK, has helped Bluesky reach 14.5 million users worldwide, up from 9 million in September, the company said.

The Guardian will no longer be posting content on X

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,173 ✭✭✭✭Stark

Shame they're withdrawing from posting on social media altogether rather than endorsing an alternative platform. Having to go to individual sites to check for updates is a pain in the hole, especially as RSS readers died a death.

I've yet to see a major site include something other than Facebook/X in their socials links. Something which could be a game changer for an alternative platform like Bluesky.

Fairly pathetic from the Guardian in fairness.

So a platform is promoting some right wing views therefore we wont engage with it.

Fair enough if that is what they want to do but it does prove what a bunch of crybabies lefties appear to be , they just can't stand their opinions being challenged so they run away to a safe space .

Surely if they truly believed what they were saying in their newspaper they'd stay as twitter would need more voices like theirs to challenge the views being pushed on twitter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,063 ✭✭✭uptherebels

Just promoting right wing views, is that all it is doing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,780 ✭✭✭✭Grayson

By putting their stuff on twitter, they'd be helping boost the platform.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,572 ✭✭✭eightieschewbaccy

Racists, neo Nazis etc aren't simply promoting right wing views. Do you think conspiracy theories like the great replacement theory etc are traditional right wing views.

News outlets don't exist to fight it out on social media. By being on the platform, they lend it credibility. And if I was on the board of a news organization, I wouldn't be particularly fond of being on a platform where the owner spent time propagating election conspiracy theories.

You seem to be getting pretty annoyed by those choosing to leave btw. Nobody is obligated to have a Twitter presence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,843 ✭✭✭Jack Daw

    Doesn't bother me at all.

I'll now be less likely to see the Guardians reporting though as I don't actively seek out their website I just see their stuff pop up on twitter from time to time, so essentially they've lost the ability to have any influence on me and anyone else who doesn't already subscribe to them.

Surely if you think what you believe is important you should be trying to change people's opinions and target people who don't already agree with you not deciding to go back to your own little echo chamber.Anyone who already subscribes to the guardian website already pretty much goes along with their stance on most things so by restricting themselves to just those people they are massively restricting their influence and the possibility of being an agent for change .

I'd also argue it's quite a poor business decisions, most newspapers I imagine use twitter accounts to get people to click on the link and see their ads or hopefully even subscribe to the online newspaper or buy it in the shops.

Anyone remaining on Twitter is free to share their articles if they want. Changing things from the inside seems like a pipe dream at this point. The platform is also facing a declining user base so why stay.

Because it still has users? It costs them nothing to post their articles so why would they turn down the free publicity it provides to the existing user base.
